2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The tablet itself is great. It handles everything with no problem, from games, movies, books, and music.

Cons: Using the supplied charger, the battery life goes down while plugged in. That's on a fresh boot with no apps running. That's if it even charges. I have to hold the cable a certain way for it to charge. No bumps, drops, or tweaks to the unit.

Other Thoughts: During the few minutes I spent writing this review the Nexus went from 5% to dead while plugged in.

4 out of 5 eggsbest performance/price

Pros: I feel like these are easily the best tablets for their time.
Poor advertising by google though to get them more known.Owned ipads/galaxy and a few knock offs, but i will buy this everytime when/if i need a tablet and they keep making them. but.....*see cons*

Cons: NO SD card support, so sick of this with these phones and tablets and the like, it really needs to stop

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Tablet

Pros: Always a fan of ASUS. The device is fast and very responsive. Perfect size; not too big, not too small. The Kit Kat OS proves Google is righting minor wrongs and taking steps to make their OS one of a kind. So much better than iOS. Very good battery life. I can watch about 2, sometimes 3, HD movies from any streaming service when the battery is fully charged. Pinning music, movies or books to the device and turning on airplane mode yields even better results.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I've been using the Nexus 7 for just over a month. I have yet to find any negatives. As long as they continue to put out great products and devices, I will always worship at the Google alter.

1 out of 5 eggsLACK of MICRO-SD & MINIMAL INTERNAL MEMORY

Pros: Good platform good price

Cons: Nexus 7 is a decent tablet except its internal memory is completely ridiculous for today's apps. The 16Gb model is useless. The 32Gb model is barely functional for someone that does not do much with the unit.
The lack of Micro-SD card is in my view the biggest issue with the Nexus line.
I will not buy another Nexus device unless Google is adding a micro-SD slot or put at least 64Gb memory on board at decent price.
No surprise Nexus sales are relatively modest, particularly the expensive Nexus 10. You can get much better devices from Samsung and Asus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Addy,

It's good to know that you are satisifed with the good patform and price of the tablet. I apologize if you were dissatisfied with the product due to its storage size and the lack of a Micro-SD slot. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140707627 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply amazing

Pros: Always the latest stock, no-bloat, android. Amazing screen and performance. Long lasting battery

Cons: To be honest i can't think of any, especially for the price.

Other Thoughts: Even after all this time this is still the best budget tablet around. Eats through everything i have thrown at it and Android L is quite amazing on it already.

2 out of 5 eggsFlimsy Made

Pros: Fast
Works Great
Does what I wanted it to.

Cons: VERY FLIMSY MADE
So flexible that even a tiny bit of flex to the case cracks the screen
Cracked screens (even by the above manner) are not covered under warranty but they will fix it for $200

Other Thoughts: Won't buy another one like this. To easy to crack the screen with everyday usage. Will go with a better product for my next tablet purchase.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great to know that you are satisfied with the fast speed and the overall tablet's features. I certainly understand your concern regarding the screen being damaged accidentally. Any tablet screen, regardless of the brand name, is breakable if the unit was dropped unintentionally or not handled with care. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3771773 on the subject line.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat device, needs a little QC

Pros: Fastest android device I've seen. Beats out my nVidia Tegra 3 device, and possibly my Tegra 4-based nvidia Shield (seems slightly more responsive)

The wireless charging system makes this tablet highly convenient (requires additional charger not included), and may possibly be a MUST_HAVE if you have a unit with a bad USB connector like me (see cons).

Runs the latest android OS, and even seems to get faster OS updates than my Nexus 5 phone (got it several days before my phone updated for 4.4.3).

Cons: Well, there's the usual "There's no memory expansion slot." Agreed, that's a huge downside, and severely limits what you can do with this tablet (I regularly have to shuffle apps around in the cloud, which puts a severe strain on my network bandwidth). If I were able to install apps to a semi-permanent 128GB chip, I would be very happy... but I can't.

As I implied above, 32GB of on-board flash simply isn't enough for a device this powerful. 64GB probably isn't enough either.

My USB port is flaky. This is a minor annoyance if your battery still has some charge, because you can simply wiggle the connector around until the tablet claims it's charging, then leave it alone. When it's dead, there's no indicator, so you have to plug it in, wait about an hour, attempt to turn it on, and when you fail, wiggle it around again and wait another hour. Repeat as many times as necessary. I've met at least one other person with the same problem, and I suspect it's common with this device. I'd hazard a guess that it's a cold solder joint on the connector. I'm a bit surprised to see this issue with Asus, as I've never had trouble with any of their electronics before (I am at the point where I actually prefer ASUS over most other brands).

Other Thoughts: On the memory expansion, google has made changes in Kit-Kat (android 4.4) that make memory expansion less useful. Theoretically, you should still be able to install apps on the expansion slot, but your apps can no longer access data that they do not "own". This means if you install a video player, you can't access your videos if they are on an external card. This restriction does not apply to internal memory, so you can continue to play movies from the internal memory with no issues. You can probably imagine all sorts of other limitations you can run into with this in place. At any rate... not an issue with this device, as it doesn't support memory expansion period.

On the USB charging issue... I got around mine by using a wireless charger. The nexus 7 (2013 version only) supports the Qi standard which enables various wireless chargers. If your USB port is flaky and you're out of warranty, I suggest you try one of these and use Wifi to tranfser data rather than USB.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's good to know that you are satisfied with the tablet. I understand your concern that no expansion slot is available. I suggest that you utilized Google Cloud or Google drive to free up some storage space from the internal storage. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3771894 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsBest tablet for the price

Pros: Price, especially that I got mine on clearance.
Very fast.
Good on battery life.
Superb display.
Screen proportions ideal for Tiny Death Star and HD movies.
Easy to use operating system.
Easy to network with my home server (Apple charges you for such an app).

Cons: No slot for expandable storage.
Camera is terrible.
Firmware takes up a noticeable chunk of available storage--more than my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone.
Not status symbol like the iPad for which you can brag to your friends.

Other Thoughts: I would have been willing to pay more for a 64 GB version.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive comment with the tablet. I certainly understand your concern regarding the missing features on the tablet. It has its own unique advantages compare to other tablet out in the market.. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3749320 on the subject line.
