1 out of 5 eggsNext time I am buying Samsung

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: Quick processing speeds, great graphics

Cons: They don't last.
Was always a fan of ASUS. The motherboards are the top of line, and have lasted years in all of my builds. Personal and customer's machines.
These however have been, well ****.
Purchased 5 originally, for kids Christmas presents. So far 3 have failed. 2 had touch screen failure, the 3rd blew the battery.

Other Thoughts: Even with the failures, ASUS issued an RMA instantly. There was a 2 week turnaround, most of that being shipping.
The repaired units have worked great. I just don't want to deal with that again.
ASUS was also the manufacturer of the NEXUS 7. I thought these would be as good. Guess not.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked real good until it didn't

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: Good IPS display with nice viewing angles.
Cheap.
Feels light but the weight is evenly distributed so it doesn't feel shoddy like a Samsung piece of garbage.

Cons: Buttons are awkwardly placed.
Chip doesn't perform well. Don't expect to play higher end games with this.
Poor battery life.
Huge battery problems. Make the entire thing not worth it.

Other Thoughts: We had two of those and they both gave out in a few months. Searching around the web we found a TON of people have the same problems. The battery goes flat and the thing refuses to boot. Twice we needed to charge the things at no voltage for 24 hours to get them to show signs of life and the third time around both devices failed to come back to life.

Do not buy this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: My goal was to find two wifi tablets at a reasonable price for myself and my wife. The Asus Memo Pad HD 7 fit that bill and more. This device has not only met my expectations, but gone far beyond. The device works smothly, battery life is great, and the OS is great. When you shop for a low cost device, you learn to expect you are going to find limitations compared to the high priced competitors. Instead, I find this just a good as the Ipad mini my brother-in-law had, and I paid much less. And, I have the option for expanded memory that he doesn't have! This thing has replaced my laptop, my paper books, CD's for music, and even at times my TV for movies. It seems no mater what I throw at it, it overcomes the challenge. To top it all off, my wife loves her's, which is an even bigger accomplishment.

Cons: Not a one. One of the best purchases I have ever made.

4 out of 5 eggsCan't beat the price

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: A lot of functionality for the price. Great battery life. I would but it again.

Cons: From what I hear tablets are fragile and this one is no exception. My screen got a crack after two months (my fault) and it kept working just fine. Then one day when I took it out of my backpack the screen had multiple cracks and it would no longer power on. It lasted four months total. I recommend getting a good case for any tablet.

Other Thoughts: I read you needed a fingerprint shield for the unit so I ordered one from newegg when I ordered the tablet. Not good. I had to replace it after a couple of weeks. This time I went to staples and although it was expensive (around $15 or $20) the shield was awesome and made the tablet a joy to use.

2 out of 5 eggsBattery problems

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: Outstanding picture quality, fast processor, plenty of high-end features, even a peppy start-up...alas...

Cons: Lousy tech support, talked to two tech's who seamed to barely know OF the product, much less know how to fix anything with the product. Google searches gave me options, but it seams that dead batteries are endemic in this product line...none of the tips or tricks to prompt the HD7 back to life worked...luckily the box store where I purchased it was willing to credit me towards another tablet. Now I'm just out all the apps and lost data, not to mention the tablet case.

Other Thoughts: Will not touch another tablet that doesn't at least have Retailer support for the first 90 days. Asus is off the list for good, apparently they have known of the battery issues since last September when the first wave of returns/problems hit, yet they are still shipping these units, with no idea of how to fix or avoid the battery failure, and are certainly not interested enough in their customers to at least suspend sales until the problem is rectified.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable value.

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: No false claims.
Camera function is really great. 1080p video is nice.
There are a lot of free Android apps that are really good.
Good battery life (and I can't tolerate poor battery life)
The price people pay for other tablets makes no sense when this is on the market. It does every thing the latest smart phone does except make a call.
I take it all over and find free wifi at every bar and restaurant.

Cons: No flash for camera. Although it is good in low light it sometimes needs help.

Other Thoughts: Music is good but I needed to pay for a $3.50 app to really play music in a way that made sense to me. That is scan the SD card and create a play list.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK!!! Spend the extra and get a real one

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: When it worked it was slick for a cheap unit.

Cons: problem is after 4 months it does not work
battery died, and never took a charge again.

Other Thoughts: I tried all the "google" searches for a fix on why it would not start. Tried all. None worked. Spoke to ASUS service, they said they would fix, but only if i had the SN number (box was tossed long ago) if no SN i would have to pay!
Took a chance and failed...

4 out of 5 eggsGood value for money

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: - Decent battery life
- Good resolution
- Micro SD expansion slot
- Updates from ASUS

Cons: - Power button too close to volume (several times, I have pressed one instead of the other)
- Camera is ok, could be better in terms of performance and picture quality.

Other Thoughts: Have this tablet for about 1.5 months so far. It has performed well so far, and meets my needs - which are mostly watching some videos, reading articles, ebooks, and browsing. I do not do any gaming etc. I find that ASUS updates come in periodically (had 3 updates so far), which is good and means that they are watching and fixing issues. This is my first ASUS product. Overall, it seems to be good value for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for Price

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: For the cost, this is awesome. The resolution looks great, why spend more for the 1080? It really looks awesome as it is.

It's quick and feel sturdy enough,

Android is version 4.2.2, so it does sport Google Now, as of the last few weeks.

The camera's are.. Okay. I mean, they'll work fine for skyping or taking basic pictures, just don't expect anything amazing- by why should you? It's a tablet, and it's cheap.

Got this on sale for $116.00 through Newegg.

The white looks pretty good, and the ASUS logo makes it look pretty premium.

It holds a charge pretty well, especially idle. I came back to it after about 5 days at one point and it was still living around 20 percent battery. Not to mention, I can pretty much browse around on it/play light games ALL DAY without needing a charge.

Cons: When I got it out of the box, the backplate was separating slightly, the bottom lip was not connected. I simply popped it into place, and it caught the snaps, and hasn't been a problem since. Like someone on an assembly line just didn't push it together properly. Or maybe the NSA opened it to put a spy chip in, and rushed it to my house.

After a few hours of heavy gameplay, the gyroscope seemed a bit laggy. The system was getting pretty hot at that point though- though it does play the games very well! Maybe it's a sign that super intensive games shouldn't consume more than a few hours of my day though.

Other Thoughts: All in all, this a great buy. I've been considering buying a few more for family members even. The price is right, and it doesn't seem any less premium than the competition, which can cost twice as much or near to it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent buy overall- GREAT battery life

This review is from: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 Tablet - Quad-Core 1GB DDR3 RAM 16GB Flash 7" IPS 1280x800 WiFi, GPS - White Color (ME173X-A1-WH)

Pros: Battery life (much better than expected)
Processing speed
Display
Micro SD expansion
Cheap cases available
Not too much bloatware

Cons: Has rebooted spontaneously (only a few times)
Camera performance
Power button too close to volume

Other Thoughts: Battery life is by far the best of any tablet I've used (Toshiba Thrive, ASUS Transformer 101). It can last for at least a few days worth of typical use. Display is crisp. Speakers are at least adequate, but not very loud. ASUS hasn't made huge changes to stock Android. It's not a Nexus but great for the price paid ($120).
