1 out of 5 eggsBuggy when it worked. No longer turns on.

Pros: Cheaper than an iPad.

Cons: I purchased this thinking there would not be any issues typically associated with Android tablets because this is the official Google supported device. However during my ownership of the device it has lagged or been subject to phantom touches that made it unusable. The last few weeks it no longer turns on. I've tried everything I've read online to get it to work but now it's just a paperweight in under 1 year of ownership. This experience has turned me off to Google and Asus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Eddie,

Thank you for the positive comment with the tablet. I apologize if the system suddenly failed to power on. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspection, this is an isolated case. Please verify if the USB cable and AC adapter are properly connected to from the tablet to a working surge protector or AC outlet. Please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to reset and clear the memory. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. If the problem persists, please press and hold the power button, repeat this process a couple of times, until you see an ASUS logo or a battery icon. If a battery icon shows up, let the battery charge fully before turning it on again. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3600050 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsbad choice

Pros: It runs great, and fast while it is actually not crashing and restarting. Upgraded itself to kit kat which is great.

Cons: It crashes every 10 minutes or so and restarts, the reboot seems like it is never going to end. My other tablets are all much faster, I knew I should have bought the asus Memo 7 hd and have since done that. The return policy just kills me here luckily I bought the warranty so once the 90 day manufacturers warranty is up hopefully the extended warranty company will send me a gift card or something...

Other Thoughts: Asus tech support was no help, after all the tablet works great for 10 minutes at a time. I remember why I quit ordering from here the return process is not up to the standards set by others. No hassle free returns is why people like me spend thousands a year at the other place.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Mike,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. The system update to Kitkat might have been unsuccessful and corrupted the OS. Please try to do a hardware reset to resolve the problem. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3540369 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

3 out of 5 eggsNever again

Pros: Great tablet, plenty of resources to get things done without waiting for apps to load. Huge 32gb internal storage.

Cons: Got a bad refurb. It randomly turns off and restarts. Some times just locks up. Has a short in the headphone/audio plug in and makes crackling sound through any headphones attached, but its speaker sound fine but are on the bottom back of device so muffled if sat down on fabric. NO Micro SD CARD SLOT. I knew it going in but just letting everyone know.

Other Thoughts: I should have bought the ASUS 7 hd I purchased for my wife and 3 kids. I think if it had been actually refurbished it would have been a great deal.

5 out of 5 eggsCan't be beat

Pros: I've been holding out on getting a tablet for a while but when I seen this deal I jumped at it right away.

Pro's - The price, 4.4 kitkat, overall a great tablet no real complaints.

Cons: See Other thoughts - none

Other Thoughts: Keep in mind it's a refurb so it comes pretty barebones in a box with just it and a charger.

4 out of 5 eggsWill Never Order from Newegg Again

Pros: Great display and works without any issues. Good quality. Definitely something worth getting if you are in need of a midrange budget tablet

Cons: Battery Life is only about 7 hours. This could be because it's a refurbished one. Needs to have a rear facing camera

Other Thoughts: When the first tablet arrived it had the manufacturers testing software on the tablet. It could not be setup and it could not be changed. You could not hard reset this tablet back to orginal to get this working.

I will never order a product from newegg after this last debacle. I contacted newegg advising that this tablet was broke. The testing software even showed failed tests. This was definitely never tested before leaving any factory after being refurbished. I asked that they send a replacement and i will send this one back. I was informed that i would need to send the tablet back and then they would determine if they wanted to send me another one. And i would have to wait 7-10 days to get the new one. Even after waiting 7 to 10 days to send the one i had back. After finally requesting a supervisor talked to me did they finally send out a new tablet with 3 day shipping. It was not like this arrived and it had been broken in shipping. i would of been okay with sending the tablet back first. This was a blatent disregard for checking this product.

For that reason i should not have to yell and scream to get a working tablet coming to my house after a major error like this. For that reason i will move my long time business i have had with newegg to a competitor.

4 out of 5 eggsA great value (if you're lucky)

Pros: - Hardware was in great shape
- Pretty zippy
- No problems updating to 4.4.2 (caveat below)

Cons: - As other posters have noted, units come in a plain brown box with just the charger and cable. Not important to me, but might be if you're planning on giving it as a gift

Other Thoughts: I feel fortunate to have received a good unit. It seems like there's a few lemons being sent out, based on the other reviews.

When I got the unit, I fully charged it overnight and proceeded to update it to 4.4.2.

The major problem I ran into seems to be an OS issue, not hardware. Once I updated to 4.4.2, auto-rotate stopped working. I would be stuck in whatever viewing mode I booted up in. I did some research online and there seems to be a fair number of people experiencing the issue:!topic/nexus/tvnm-lyyQtE

I did an factory reset, and still had the problem. Since folks had mixed experiences with third party solutions, I opted to downgrade to 4.3 instead. Since then, auto-rotate (and everything else) works great.

When the new fixes for Kit Kat come out, I'll try to upgrade again. :-)

1 out of 5 eggsGet what you pay for.

Pros: The Asus Tech said "Besides that fact your tablet isnt currently working it really is a good tablet" Yep! Great for keeping paper on your desk from blowing away. Excellent for learing the newegg RMA prossess and refining your packageing and shipping skills..

Cons: When I recieved the tablet I charged it completly and signed in..I did the first syatem updateand during the reboot the operting system locked up.The screen was stuck at the pulsing X screen.Asus tech walked e threw the factory reset, Still did work...all this the Night before christmas..New egg issued RMA#....10 days later recieved tablet #2 charged it completly then signed in and after doing first update the tablet was stuck at the loading x sceen again.. Called Asus tech and he walked me threw doing factory reset that didnt help..Called new egg and sent tablet back..This was a christmas present for my parents and its the 20th of january and they still dont have a tablet to use!!

Other Thoughts: Refirbished mean you have to test out a few tablets before you get one that works, good times...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat units, great price, great quality

Pros: Work as advertised, both of the units I bought upgraded to 4.4.2 successfully. Units look cosmetically fine: no dings, no scratches.

Cons: The come in brown boxes, with wall charger and cable, no documents. It's minor: but they're not as fancy as the new units that come in black boxes with silver foil labeling.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 from a seller on am@zon: one was dead on arrival, the other failed to update. Returned those, bought from newegg and very happy: BOTH of the units from newegg work fine.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little tablet

Pros: Mine is a refurbished tablet but looks like brand new. It's fast enough for what I'm doing on it, mostly web browsing, calendars and some games. So far I've been very pleased with it. I purchased an Asus memo pad for my mom (an older model, can't remember which one) and this tablet out performed it in every way. During the updates it took android 4.4.2.

Cons: No SD card slot and no rear facing camera.

Other Thoughts: The first tablet I received bricked while it was updating about ten minutes after I opened the box. Newegg was very easy to deal with and replaced it with no questions asked. Can't beat that. If you're looking for a seriously powerful tablet this probably isn't for you. That being said it streams video well and surf the web like a champ.

3 out of 5 eggsChase

Pros: Works

Cons: Wouldn't start up at first or charge. Had to google a solution. Turns out if you plug it in and immediately hold down the volume down and power button, access the boot menu. and formally power it down then it will begin to charge.
