5 out of 5 eggsSolid Product

Pros: -GTX 660M GPU Means I can run everything on high for the most part
-Great Cooling system
-Backlit keyboard
-All USB ports are 3.0
-Solid i5 CPU handles gaming and virtualization well

Cons: -Factory HDD is slow (5400 RPM)
-Only 1366x768 display resolution
-HDD bay not easily accessible

Other Thoughts: Overall this has been a great purchase. I got it as a B-grade (scratch and dent) refurb, but when I got it, I couldn't find a scratch or dent anywhere. Very pleased about that.

Before I even powered it on for the first time, I upgraded it to 16GB of RAM, though 8 is likely more than enough for most gaming use.

I've played most of my game library on this machine, and everything performs admirably. Here are a few examples of what settings run well (consistently above 30 fps) for me:
Fallout 3 - Ultra
Fallout NV - Ultra
Fallout 4 - High (With a few settings lowered, mainly lighting effects and shadows)
Minecraft - Max Everything
Crysis 2 - Ultra
Crysis 3 - High
Borderlands 2 - Ultra
Borderlands Pre-Sequel - High
Metro 2033 Redux - Ultra
Metro Last Light - Ultra
GTA V - High
Bioshock Infinite - High
Skyrim - Ultra
Mass Effect 2 - Ultra

The only thing I really noticed performance-wise was sluggish boot times and long load times in games; both due to the slow HDD. After having the stock HDD in for about a year, I finally took the plunge and dismantled the laptop to install a new 1TB 7200RPM HDD. Yes, you have to take apart nearly the entire laptop to do this. It's not tough, but I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you are comfortable servicing laptops and their components.

Once I got the new drive installed (and expanded the partitions to take advantage of the additional storage space), I noticed huge improvements to both boot times and load times in games. It gave the laptop a second wind, and I will probably be using it as my primary gaming laptop for another year or so.

All-in-all a great machine, especially after the RAM and HDD are upgraded.

1 out of 5 eggsVery bad first experience

Pros: The shipping is fast and laptop is well covered

Cons: I was looking forward to make my first purchase from Newegg, but I really dissapointed. I was sent a laptop that is not 100% works. The first time I turned it on, it was very slow to start the windows. When I use it to play game, the game suddenly stop and it closed by itself. The worst are I got blue screen death everytime I play game, and the laptop suddenly turned off by itself when I used it for 15 minutes to one hour. I thought NewEgg check their products before ship it. I am currently outside of the United States now, and I cannot use the 90 days warranty. I am asking for fund to repair the laptop so that I can repair it in local Asus service center in my country. But there is no any good communication till now, and I have not get any fund to repair my laptop.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dade,

I apologize if the system is slow, unable to play games and shutdown randomly. In order to improve system stability and performance, please install all recommended WINDOWS Updates and upgrade to WINDOWS 8.1 before using the system. We recommend using a LAN connection to speed up the update process. While playing games, please make sure the AC adapter was connected to provide the needed power for the system. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3776009 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsBad product

Pros: Good gaming laptop, worked well while it worked

Cons: Less than 8 weeks after I started using it and the laptop went off by itself while I was working, now none of the front panel lights come on and the lapto. itself won't power On. I tthink that for the money spent and time I had to wait to get this, that's a pretty annoying bargain. I still find it hard to believe, just an annoying piece of..., very bad job ASUS

Other Thoughts: Make more reliable products

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if the laptop suddenly failed to power on. Please verify if the AC adapter was connected properly from the tablet to a working surge protector or AC outlet. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3559057 on the subject line.

4 out of 5 eggsgood buy

Pros: runs everything i've played at max or ultra settings, tomb raider, farcry3, minecraft, WoW.

Cons: you have to press the spacebar directly in the center for it to work everytime. Windows 8 is a drag as well.

1 out of 5 eggsLaptop runs fine, but half working AC adapter makes using difficult

Pros: Great Graphics and performance, back-lit keyboard, great for gaming.

Cons: Half working AC adapter with short in wiring makes using the computer difficult. Tried contacting customer support and got no response from Asus so I will see if Newegg can ship out a new one for my old one.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for liking the great graphics and performance, backlit keyboard and gaming capabilities of the laptop. I certainly understand your concern regarding the length of the power cable. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3537426 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall but with a kick

Pros: -Dedicated card (GTX 660M)
-Laptop stays cool mostly even under stress
-Keyboard is backlit with option of changing brightness
-Matte screen for less glare
-Battery life longevity (switching your laptop's battery mode helps!)
-Looks and feels nice; also sturdy feeling
-Surprisingly quiet, from the fans, to the keyboard

Cons: -Small resolution of 1366x768
-Space bar occasionally doesn't respond to presses because of how the keyboard was designed
-Screen has an odd contrast to it
-HDD is somewhat slow

Other Thoughts: For the price, this computer has its wonders. I've tried a couple games and some run better than others. Full max settings aren't possible all the time, but hey, for this deal and portability, I took it. Heck, I'm not one for max graphics anyway, so this thing works like a charm as long as it can play the games. And since it can play games, it does other things well.

Another thing is, whether good or bad, this laptop comes loaded with Windows 8.

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressed

Pros: dedicated gtx 660m - it uses the intel hd most of the time and AUTOMATICALLY uses the gtx 660m for games...c'mon people. (right click if you're unsure about the settings)
solid i5
enough RAM
battery life is amazing
backlit keyboard

These specs are absolutely unrivaled at this price.

Cons: 1366x768 - which I don't mind playing games at native resolution, but video editing is pretty much out.

minor cosmetic damage on one of the back fan vents (as to be expected with B-grade refurbished)

Other Thoughts: I bought it for my sister who knows less about computer than I do, and she loves it. Down the road I will upgrade her to SSD and windows 8.1 pro, but for now it works really well.

I got it for $649 and now it looks like it's $629, it's hard to believe they haven't all been snatched up.

5 out of 5 eggsBudget Powerhouse

Pros: - Outstanding Cost/Power Ratio
- Beautiful Matte Screen
- Attractive Chassis
- Comfortable Keyboard
- Runs Cool

Cons: - Little Bit Heavy
- No Optical Drive

Other Thoughts: This machine's performance has been a delightful surprise, and the "Scratch and Dent" is hardly noticeable, at least on my machine. Surprisingly capable as a gaming rig, handling anything less than the latest without a hitch.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -GTX graphics
-Great for gaming
-Has a backlit keyboard
-Great battery life

Cons: If anything, maybe that the screen resolution is alright. You could always hook it up to a monitor to see the graphics card in work.

Other Thoughts: I've seen negative reviews about this laptop. Mostly about the graphics card. The owners complaining just need to learn to switch between cards.
