1 out of 5 eggsNot as advertised - disappointed

Pros: - Very cool machine and great deal if you actually get what's advertised

Cons: - Password protected when it arrived - took a lot of work to get it to reset since first attempts to enter bios failed until another fix was offered (If you find yourself in this situation, I was told to hold down the power button for 30 seconds continuously, then tap the F9 key while restarting. This finally got me in to reset.)
- No original packaging or even an invoice with product when it arrived
- SSD was 128GB, NOT 256GB
- Customer service for newegg definitely left something to be desired

Other Thoughts: I did quite a bit of research and was pretty excited about this deal. I got the computer in a plain shipping box with the charger. There was no retail packaging or even an invoice with it. When I powered it up, it was password protected. I had to call Asus twice to help me reset Windows so I could get into it. Once I got into it, I noticed it was moving a bit slow. I went into the properties and found out that it was actually a 128 GB SSD, not a 256 GB SSD. When I contacted newegg about this, I waited in the queue for an online chat for 3 hours, got disconnected, and then waited another 4 hours to talk to someone. Throughout the conversation, I was advised at first that they could do an advance return replacement, as in they would send me a replacement with the proper specs after confirming that I shipped the original machine back. I had to insist over and over that the product had arrived without the original packaging. I went through all the steps to do the advanced return replacement option and then found out that since I am a first-time customer with newegg, they actually couldn't send me a replacement until they had received and processed my return (about a 3 week process in total). I asked if I would definitely get what I had ordered next time and was told that it is possible this shipment of products was mislabeled, so maybe there were actually no computers with these specifications available at this price. In other words, no, newegg couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't be in the same boat again 4 weeks down the road. I gave up and decided to return it, get my refund, and not try to deal with newegg again. It's a shame because I was pretty interested in this model at this price. I shipped it back yesterday. Let's hope the refund comes through without a hitch since they didn't send me any original packaging with the UPC. I'm unfortunately quite disappointed with this buying experience and the problem-solving process. I do not recommend unless you have time to deal with the headache and the back and forth, hoping you finally end up with the right product.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Experience With Refurb

Pros: Small, light, has a dual screen.

Cons: Well, if it worked when I got it I probably would have kept it.

Other Thoughts: Very difficult support for this device. Received the unit in good physical condition, however the machine booted and the touchscreen did not light up. After a lot of investigation (online), this machine was designed for Windows 8 and not 8.1. You can't have Windows automatically update, as it will change drivers and make the machine unusable except in laptop mode only. So I sought out the proper video driver and got the screen to work, but could never get the mirror mode to work.

Also, there was no backup partition (it was deleted), and the previous owner's profile was still on the machine. I had to find the proper drivers to get the machine working, and added AVG antivirus. So Newegg is getting it back in better condition then when I received it with Windows 8.0 ready to go.

The stunner is ASUS has pretty much stopped supporting the machine and says it is incompatible with Windows 10. I read online there are some tricks to get it to work, however that is not how a machine is supposed to be. ASUS and Intel should have worked together to make this a more supportable platform but they chose not to. Their loss.

Newegg has been great about the return process, just waiting for the computer to get there.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Vincent,

All refurbished ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections. The unit should be in an out of the box experience when customer received it. If there was an existing user already when the laptop was received, please run PC Refresh to reset it to factory settings and reconfigure it base on your personal settings and information. To update WINDOWS to 8.1 version successfully, please verify if the unit is connected to a working internet service. If you need further technical assistance with the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N151038419 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsBattery still won't charge

Pros: None

Cons: Received the RMA unit, but the battery still won't charge. I guess I will need to buy my own battery...

I guess Asus refurbished products are not trust worthy....

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Simon,

All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections. If the RMA unit still won't power on or charge, please do the following. Please verify if the AC adapter was properly connected from the laptop to a working surge protector or AC outlet and the power button is being pressed all the way down to trigger a power on signal. Also, please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to reset and clear the memory. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. If you need further assistance regarding this issue, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N151038475 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsBattery won't charge

Pros: Nice Screen, responsive, cool looking

Cons: The battery won't charge.

Other Thoughts: Went to pick this up yesterday and plugged it in to charge for 3 hours, turned on the laptop, and the charge remained at 0%. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver without luck. Returned it the same day for a replacement. I hope the replacement will work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Simon,

I'm glad that you like the nice screen, responsive system and cool looking design. I apologize if you are experiencing difficulty charging the battery. Normally, you do the following if the battery is not charging. Please try to do a battery calibration manually by draining the battery completely without the AC adapter connected. Reconnect the AC adapter after it was fully-drained then charge it fully without the system being used or power on. If you need further technical assistance with the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150749395 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for clients

Pros: I am giving this a 5 because it meets a need I have with appoints with my clients and it is unique at the time I bought it. Perfect for face to face appointments with clients. They can use the back touch screen to see your presentation/client reviews while you are using the front screen. Most of my appointments are with one to four people, so it is perfect. No more huddling around the one screen.

Cons: Had to upgrade the bios because of Windows 8.1. Was aware of that before I bought it. Having some internet connection issues because of the software but for me and the work I do, it is a problem I can live with until I fix it. Can not find the stylus anywhere. Help. Great for face to face appointments with clients.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy it because you think it is cool. Not for something you would want for kids. Two screens means twice as likely to break if they drop it. Get the case the protects the touch screen when your not using it.

1 out of 5 eggsBad quality

Pros: sleek design, fast processor, fast hard drive

Cons: the touchscreen goes crazy and start sending touch events by itself making it unusable

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I certainly understand your concern regarding the issue with the touchpad. In order to improve the touchpad responsiveness and stability, please install all recommended WINDOWS Update manually before upgrading to WINDOWS 8.1. Also, try updating the ASUS Smart Gesture utility and try to configure the touchpad within the application. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140905658 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.
