Cons: battery life seems sub par, maybe because battery is used/old
shipping obviously not new eggs fault but i paid for express and it took 7 days
D key works intermittently, which is to bad because i was planning on using this for games

4 out of 5 eggsWonderful laptop.

Pros: This computer does everything I need it to do. I wanted something I could play games on at a moderate framerate and decent graphics settings. It is fully capable of playing games like The Elder scrolls Online and League of Legends on Medium settings.

Cons: It's capable of playing said games on MEDIUM settings. Now that I'm in a more financially stable position, I plan on upgrading to better satisfy my gaming needs. If you want a laptop capable of playing indie games on Steam, then this is a perfect choice for you, but if you want to play newer, more high-end games, then this just won't cut it.

Other Thoughts: I paid just under $400 for this laptop, and if I had the chance to do so again, I would in a heart beat. It definitely kept me occupied for the better half of six months, but tax season came around and I can afford a more powerful system.

1 out of 5 eggsWindows Updates Will Not Load

Pros: Seems to be a nice Notebook for the price

Cons: Spent 4 days trying to get Windows Updates to run, I have been on the telephone with Asus for 3 of those, refresh and reloading Windows and it still doesn't work. Not sure if its a Asus problem or Windows but I can't use it if it won't update

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Where to begin with this laptop(from which I am writing this review). The laptop itself is beautiful and looks exactly as the pictures promised. It boasts 8 gig of DDR3 ram, functioning flawlessly. The battery life has been very impressive so far, I started doing homework at 2 today and am writing the review on the same charge at 5:15. The APU is very powerful and yet conserves battery life (hence the 1.9 ghz and lower resolution screen). The Charger is american and not European like other reviews have stated. I personally use the laptop for school work, which includes programming in eclipse and Visual Studio, Both of which load in mere seconds.

Cons: The keyboard feedback is a little weak, especially on the space key. The keyboard does indeed contain European annotations like other reviews have said, the charger is defiantly american unlike what some reviews stated. The keyboard is a little tight, but what do you expect it has a full numpad. At first I was having some issues getting it to recognize the remaining charge on the battery, this was fixed by removing the battery while the power adapter was plugged in the laptop on, blowing in the terminals and replacing the battery. Battery life meter works perfectly now. I miss pre-windows 8 versions, but im quickly adapting to the new features and limitations of windows 8, the mouse pad gestures are a little funky and so is the going to the corners to open other apps and the start menu. Plus there is no simple was to put the laptop to sleep like you can with older windows simply by using the start menu.

Other Thoughts: Don't listen to what others say about it not having enough vertical pixels to program, they clearly need something else to blame for there inability to scroll and read code. Easily displays 45+ lines of code with proper perspective setup. I truly do wonder why this laptop was refurbished, its better than new and still has that new electronics smell.

3 out of 5 eggsWhat does refurbished mean?

Pros: Arrived nicely packaged and in good condition. So far I have not found any Cons. System boots up quickly and I am learning how to use it. I think maybe I will keep it.

Cons: There was a note inside saying that the drive had been wiped clean, INCLUDING the recovery partition! So, HOW am I supposed to recover, when it inevitably crashes? No recovery disk, no recovery partition! They suggest making one from a Win 7 machine!? I don't have one. THEY should have made one BEFORE wiping the disk! I am actually afraid to transfer my old data to this new machine! Also, there is no COA nor do I have the 16 digit code!

Other Thoughts: I waited a long time before buying one of these. I had so much hope and anticipation, and now I am actually sorry I bought it. Maybe I should have bought one of those cheap Dell's, afterall.

2 out of 5 eggsBattery Cannot Charge

Pros: - Seems to be a sturdy laptop
- Great processor and decent graphics
- Affordable
- Everything that isn't the battery is good

Cons: Bought this as a Christmas gift. Everything seemed fine when it first arrived, I left it plugged in while I ran windows updates so the battery always said 100%. Tonight before I actually set the gift up I had it unplugged and quickly found out that once the battery lost its charge, it couldn't get it back. It is now stuck at 0% and dies immediately when it's unplugged.

Other Thoughts: I wish I could just get the battery RMA'd but it seems that isn't an option. So I'm out another $40 to replace the battery, I have to wait for it to ship, and I have to explain to my niece that even Santa can't get everything right. Very irritating.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: It's perfect and came with the proper cables and as advertised. The price was a steal for the spec, I definitely recommend this laptop.

Cons: The mouse pad is shifted to the right like 1mm and so for the first few days, the Left side is harder to press as it would get stuck against the side.

Other Thoughts: I was curious about the GPU so I downloaded some games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and Skyrim, and with the graphics set on high, both WoW and League easily got 35+ FPS, while skyrim was around 20+ FPS.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: It's fast, it has a lot of ram and it has better graphics than most laptops in its price range. I can play any game I throw at it, from torchlight to crysis 3. Most of the higher end games can run at 30fps or greater. I mainly play tribes ascend and I get 40-50 fps on average. When I overclock I get (40)50-60fps on lowest settings, but native resolution. Same is true if I output it to a television with slightly less frames. (1920x1080) Overclocking the apu-gpu is fairly simple, on the other hand I haven't messed with the cpu. I am kind of afraid, but I assume it can be overclocked 2.8ghz fairly easily, I just need to find out how. So in short, I earn about 10 fps if the graphics is overclocked. (1150mhz- fairly safely) It browses the web fairly well. I can watch netflix, youtube etc. It's a fun and quick laptop that can keep up with my standards. Granted as I've said, if you want to play the newer games you'd be best playing them on lowest settings. Not a complaint from me, because I am simply happy to be able to play them on a laptop that is actually fairly affordable.

Cons: I hate the keyboard. First off, it's a french keyboard. Secondly, the enter button is annoying as all hell. Most enter keys will extend out, this one is vertical for some reason. I really don't like that I press \ instead of enter when I want to. It will take some time to adapt, it's not a huge complaint. Mine came with some "scratches" or dings. The right side of the keyboard appears to be raised slightly and I can see that it has been removed and reinstalled poorly. Which is another complaint about the keyboard. There's a ding next to the removal hole on the keyboard. As if someone used a screwdriver to pry it off. I may want to replace this one myself later on. It was not wiped down thoroughly. I had to wipe it myself. I had expected higher standards from newegg when it came to the quality of refurbished items. The viewing angles are horrid. The screen could have been better. I have better viewing angles on my acer aspireone netbook from 2008.

Other Thoughts: It's generally a good laptop. I would recommend it. I love asus products. It has a light sleek design. I can put it on my lap comfortably. It's not too big, and not too small. It is perfect for me. The temperatures are extremely cool. around 60c give or take in games. The webcam is kind of lacking in frames, but it's not bad. I haven't tested the mic, but I'm sure it's fine. I Don't recommend using their windows 8 install. Asus installed a few programs that really bog the machine down. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the machine.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Laptop, refurb process stinks

Pros: It's a laptop. It does laptop things.
It came in a package that looks like a bunch of otter pops taped together. I could probably use that as a life raft.

Cons: The keyboard is the "French Canadian" one that is on ASUS' website. A little funky, but I will be able to figure it out.

The documentation (one whole sheet of paper) mentions that there is no recovery partition due to the refurb process (but there is one). The massive one sheet of paper also has underlined hyperlinks to how to make recovery disks (since the ASUS Software apparently isn't included with this WIN8 image). The actual web site is never mentioned, nor is the file this page came from included with the notebook.

The hard drive is horrendously slow (I suspect under 5400rpm) and bottlenecks the system horribly. Compared to my 5 year old Core2Duo HP laptop, this thing is still a snail. I am already looking into a better HDD or SSD.

Other Thoughts: If you're fine with a slow HDD, funky keyboard, and virtually ZERO documentation (because the documentation included is for win7 and not the installed WIN8) then this is great. Otherwise spend a little more and get a better notebook.

3 out of 5 eggsFrance laptop

Pros: ***1 day later had my laptop. WOW ! ***
**Low price for it's specs
** Perfect shape

Cons: Power cords France format ... Must buy an adaptor so I can charge it ....

Windows 8

Other Thoughts: In the picture with all the component include is true. But as you can see the power cord is kind of blur... And it is a FRANCE power cord.. Must buy an adaptor so it can fit to recharge the laptop
