5 out of 5 eggsWow! Like New Refurbished

Pros: I was simply blown away by how new it looked. It looked like I bought it brand new when I unpacked the laptop and opened it for the first time. Blazing through the setup screen was easy. The performance of this laptop and gaming is just superb then my previous laptop.

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: I will certainly buy another product here at newegg again when the time comes.

Pros: -Will run most games on high settings.
-Great cooling system, quiet.

Cons: -Screen is decent at best, arrived with a dead pixel.
-Restarting issue when first bought.
-You may be able to find better specs for the same price.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'll preface this by saying that I am very satisfied with my computer, and hope it'll last long and run properly for a long time (I will update this review if it did not).

When I initially got the laptop, I was disappointed. Within 10 minutes of the first boot, it randomly shut down. I had to press the power button to turn it back on. A couple hours later, it did the same thing. I sent in an RMA request, and looked up online as to what could be causing this. I discovered that some people reported that removing the following software could help:

1) Asus Instant On
2) Asus LiveUpdate
3) Power4Gear

I took out and reinserted the battery, and removed those programs. I also removed McAfee. Since then it has been running smoothly for hours at a time, so I hope that this was either a software bug or my battery wasn't fully seated. Just a good check to make yourself if you have this problem.

With that bug fixed, here is what I think of the laptop so far:

PERFORMANCE:

I'm quite pleased with the performance of this computer. It is my first PC capable of gaming, and it seems to be able to play every game available, though not necessarily at the highest settings. The 5400RPM drive (which was advertised as 7200RPM when I bought it and subsequently changed) is probably the bottleneck of the computer. Even so, the laptop does not feel unbearably slow when opening programs. I'm sure it would be incredible with an SSD installed. The 12GB of RAM is plenty for me, and I love being able to open up 6 virtual desktops and fill them with anything, without having to worry about memory usage. The cooling system is great. Under very heavy load, it never broke 65C. Overall, this isn't a supercomputer, but for the money I paid it is certainly powerful.

SCREEN:

The screen is not particularly good. Mine arrived with a single dead pixel, down on the lower left of the screen. It's pretty unnoticeable during gameplay but I still inadvertently notice it from time to time. The 1600 * 900 resolution is not bad, but obviously isn't full HD. That being said, this graphics card seems to chug a bit when trying to render full HD (when connected to an external monitor), so you might have been lowering the game resolution anyway. The screen seems pretty good about displaying bright scenes, but has awful blacks in darker scenes. All in all though, for the price, the screen is good enough to get the job done.

BUILD QUALITY:

I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality. The screen has a bit of flex to it, but nothing major, and the body feels solid and well built. I especially like the feel of the keyboard and brushed aluminum finish.

OVERALL:

After fixing the rebooting issue, I'm happy with my purchase. That being said, be on the lookout for similar models with a 1920*1080 resolution and a 670mx, which I found the next day selling for the same price.

I'll update if anything comes up, but I hope it lives a long and healthy life.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: This thing is amazing. For starters, it looks very good, much better than you'd think from the pictures shown. Also, this thing is an absolute beast. As far as games go, it plays WoW and Starcraft II at 90 fps on the absolute highest settings. I've also loaded Bioshock: Infinite and Farcry 3 up onto it, and while i don't know the exact fps, it plays them flawlessly at the highest settings.

Cons: 500GB hard drive is kind of small and comes partitioned. It's also too big to fit in the laptop pocket of my backback
