1 out of 5 eggsBroken right out of box

Pros: Price, size, lightweight

Cons: Was never able to get it to work. Called asus for tech support and as wonderful as they were they couldn't fix issue. Reset to factory with a full reinstall four times and my personal information was still in there. Would NOT reset. Guess I just got a lemon.

Other Thoughts: Newegg took product back without any issue but guess they should when product didn't last ten minutes. Screen also had a scratch down center which was annoying. Really annoyed this product passed a inspection. Asus should have looked at it before sending it out, or looked at it a little closer.

1 out of 5 eggswrong charger in box :(

Pros: It's pretty

Cons: I can't turn it on because it came with a micro usb charger but takes a 36 pin charger

Other Thoughts: Got the tablet looked all over for a micro usb slot to charge it but there's not one. The micro usb charger that was on the box had a broken housing on it just to add the the problem.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet, Setup With Care!!

Pros: Inexpensive, Full version of Windows 8 (upgradeable to 8.1 in the store for free) responsive and nice looking screen, a really nice tablet for the money but make sure you do the setup right the first time! (See Other Thoughts Below)

Cons: Setup and updating is a bit of a pain, make one mistake and you have a brick, not sure if its so much the tablet as it is the software and drivers but you definitely have to do things in the correct order to end up a fully updated and working tablet.

Other Thoughts: I had to setup two of these, the first one went horribly wrong but i learned from it, and hopefully you read this before doing it yourself! Plug it in for this entire process... First and foremost after you turn it on and get logged into your Microsoft Account and you can get to the desktop run Asus LiveUpdate, FIRST. It will either ask you to update the LiveUpdate program when you go to the desktop and it first loads or when you open it. Allow LiveUpdate to get its update and restart. Then run the Asus LiveUpdate and do the BIOS update FIRST!! After thats done, it will reboot in the process, then do the other update thats available in Asus LiveUpdate and restart the tablet again. Now that you have those done run Windows Update and get the updates done, around 112 of them, do them one at a time, if you try to do more then one at a time it will just fail and you will be stuck in reverting changes from a failed update for most of a day, more on that in a second. The once each update is done, and you rebooted it after each update go to the Store and the first thing you see is Windows 8.1, tap on it and get it installed it will step you through the process. After 8.1 is setup and your back to the desktop check for updates again, i had 14 more to do. Now your ready to install apps and software and actually use it, took me almost an entire day to set the second one up slowly and carefully. So what happens if you don't do it right? The first one i setup i told it to do the 112 updates, it downloaded and installed then asked to reboot, after the reboot it was stuck saying the updates failed and its reverting changes, it was there for about 16 hours and a dozen auto reboots!! I read some reviews online that said don't do the bios update so after the revert eventually suceeded i did the updates slowly one at a time but then after the update to Windows 8.1 my display was unresponsive and glitchy. I had to hook up a keyboard via an OTG cable and do a Windows Reset back to Windows 8.0, then installed the Bios and update from Asus LiveUpdate, then all the Windows Updates again, and then Windows 8.1, it now works great but took about 60 hours to complete... Ughh Thats another thing if it fails you CAN NOT recover without a USB keyboard! The bluetooth keyboard i paired was unresponsive during boot to use F9 to get to the recovery. I finally have two working tablets after about 2 1/2 days work. Don't expect it to be perfect out of the box, its a long process to update it and get it right, but its worth the effort for the cost vs features!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Great product for the price. Love it. This product offers greater mobility compared to refular laptop. Get all of the my works done that Android Tablet and iPad could not accomplish.

Cons: UI is a bit not up to par compared to Android and iOS, but still a great product for corporate user.

Other Thoughts: Great product for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome cheap Win8 PC/Tablet

Pros: Light, has FULL Windows 8. It's really good for how much they're selling it for. Mainly this is a web browse/word processing device. I played 720p youtube videos and there was a tiny, tiny, bit of lag. Maybe if it was more optimized it wouldn't do that but it's still awesome.

Cons: I can confirm that it takes 8 hours to install Windows 8.1 from turning it on to updating to 8.1.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price for a decent tablet

Pros: Incredible price for a 10.1 inch windows 8 tablet. I took a risk on it being a refurbished unit but have not had any problems regarding quality. The screen has great color and the tablet handles 720p youtube videos without a hitch. Battery life is also another high point as I get around 10 hours browsing and 6 watching videos. The tablet is responsive and while it will not be of much use playing games it handles other tasks well. The build quality is surprisingly nice and seems as if it will hold up in times to come. The camera quality is decent, although it should be noted that taking shots at the max MP is only possible in 4:3 aspect ratio which I thought was odd.

Cons: Windows update to 8.1 took 11 hours. That is not a typo, eleven actual hours. At many points it would seem to lock up but given enough time it would continue updating. The one small issue I have noticed is that occasionally after pressing the power button to turn off the screen, the screen will turn back on again a few seconds after. However this is not a terrible issue and I can't complain given the price.

Other Thoughts: All in all I think this is a wonderful tablet for people that like being able to watch videos and browse the internet, but still need a true windows environment once in awhile. I got more than I expected out of this purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsWindows 8.1

Pros: See other thoughts

Cons: See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: Just some comments on upgrading to 8.1. It's been posted and I too have had problems with upgrading the tablet to 8.1. I had the 112 updates that failed and sent the tablet into a forever "recover" loop. If this happens you can recover to factory options by using the "reset" button under the volume rocker.
The most fool-proof way to upgrade it the following:
(1) on initial startup, choose the option to "NOT" update windows.. This will prevent the 112 downloads.
(2) Run vivotab updater and only update the bios.
(3) Download from the Microsoft download center
KB2871389 and KB2917499 and install them in that
order..
This will allow 8.1 update from store.
(4) Go to store and select the 8.1 update.

That's it... 8.1 loaded.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsASUS Vivotab Refurb

Pros: Price
Size
Condition
Battery life
Transformability

Cons: Windows 8
Updating

Other Thoughts: I bought one tablet, and then another, and then another.

The first Vivotab I bought updated without a hitch, but it took DAYS. In order to update to 8.1, which is a vast improvement over 8, you are required to download updates for 8 then you can update to 8.1. There are around 120 updates that need to be installed first before you can install 8.1.

I also found out the hard way that you need to update the ASUS software first, so be sure and do that to start (located on the regular desktop - LiveUpdate)

Once all the updating is done you have a nice, good working tablet that has not disappointed yet. I also purchased a Transleeve keyboard that had expanded the capability of the tablet. I will be starting medic school in the fall and this is going to be my go to device.

I decided to get another one for my wife. This one was a clunker. It wouldn't update, had to completely reset it twice to get it to work so I RMA'd it (sent it back.)

This is interesting though, I see these stories of how terrible the RMA experience is.......I gotta call Shenanigans on that. It was the most pleasant, helpful, and courteous experience I have ever had returning a product. Period. New Egg deserves kudos for that.

I got my replacement Vivotab within 10 days and had a much better experience with it than I did the first now that I got it figured out, and knew what to do.

Overall, I have to say, buy this tablet. You get a barebones product but the savings are tremendous. You do stand a small risk of getting a Frisbee, but New Egg stood behind their product and did the right thing. That earned them the fifth egg on my rating.

4 out of 5 eggspretty sweet tablet

Pros: Obviously the full version of the windows os is great. I thought it was going to be cheap back cover. Its not, its pretty solid. The finish on the back is the same that asus typically uses on the back of the laptop screens. Like a rubberized hard back cover.

Cons: When i did my first update It failed and took forever to get out of the "failed configuration reverting changes" It took about an hour, but i thought it was bugged and reset it like 3 times that was my fault. I should have just waited, but do know that changes take like an hour to revert changes just be patient. The camera can be slow, but its still great. only one microusb port.

Other Thoughts: BUY a micro usb to usb converter hub. You will absolutely need it eventually. Really loving this tablet so far. Since I got it refurbished it didn't come with anything extra. You dont have to get the asus cover, you can get something else. I will probably just get a random bluetooth keyboard to go with it since its like a small laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: As I said before Lightweight and easy to use. Nice display when it works properly.

Cons: Very bad tec support. Still have not gotten a reply to my RMA request, and now date & time are randomly changing on me. I always liked ASUS but mow I am having second thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I would really have like to recommend this product to other people. I just can't given my experience with there support team.
