1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your money!

Pros: Cheap, good quality screen, OTG, big enough IMO but still small enough to be easily carried around.

Cons: Stopped working after 3 months, send it in for repair and failed again. Screen would not turn on, any combination of buttons wouldn't "wake up" the device. This was a huge waste of time an money sine I had to pay every time I had to return it (had it "fixed" twice). Should've spend more money on another brand. My wife and I were going to get an Asus Tranformer right before trouble started, we will now stay away for sure!

Other Thoughts: Will probably end up selling it online and get something else ... can't keep paying shipping fees to fix something that shouldn't break that often!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jalmir,

I apologize for your dissatisfaction with the quality of the warranty service provided to the tablet. We do value our customers and take negative customer service experience very seriously. 2 out of 5 eggsAddendum

Pros: Same as earlier

Cons: same as earlier

Other Thoughts: Just to add a bit more. I called Asus tech support again for an issue I'm having. I asked this agent about the android updates.
He assured me that google is working on a 4.3 release and as soon as it's finished and released to manufactures, they will release it to us.
So, new day new story?

2 out of 5 eggsBeautiful - But....Outdated

Pros: Nice display.
Good enough performance.
Good Sound volume and pretty good quality

Cons: Stuck at Android 4.2 with no updates on the horizon as per Asus tech support.

Other Thoughts: After seeing this on Newegg I called and asked a couple of questions. Newegg gave me the number to Asus support so I called them.

Asus support was nice and after putting me on hold a couple of times came back and told me
1. There is no difference between this and the HD model
and
2. All memo pads update to android 4.4 which has the feature to move apps to sdcard.

That's the only reason I purchased it, the moving of the apps.
Well, as others have noticed, it won't update. I called Asus back today and was told there are no updates listed for the memo pad.
I think they just say yes to everything you ask so you'll purchase their product.

Now, stuck between a rock and a hard place, I'm not sure what to do with it, I'm on a time crunch now.

Newegg has been Super Great through all this as this is actually a replacement for a defective unit I purchased last week, Still "GO NEWEGG!"

Based on recent experiences with Asus support, I'd say stay away. They used to be one of the best companies around.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice size screen, when it works it is a nice tablet.

Cons: I bought this tablet at christmas, I'm now sending it back for the second time for a black screen. It sounds like this is happening to others.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm glad that you like the nice screen size. I certainly understand your concern regarding the random black screen or no video related issue. Please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours in order to reset and clear the memory. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. If the problem persists, please press and hold the power button, repeat this process a couple of times, until you see an ASUS logo or a battery icon. If a battery icon shows up, let the battery charge fully before turning it on again. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140707597 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Worth Buying

Pros: Nice size, good performance, good sound quality, good storage/expandable storage...

Cons: Granted this MAY be an isolated incident... however...
The screen has failed three times within 5 months...
each time i had to send i back to them for their "warrenty" which they do not pay for you to ship it to them... ive paid about $50 in "repairing" the dumb thing and it would work great if it only didnt keep dying...

Please note i also take very good care of my all my tech and i rarely ever drop any device, i also had the asus case for it in case u think i did drop it.

Other Thoughts: This would be a very nice tablet if it only worked...

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome tablet at an awesome price.

Pros: This is a great tablet for the money. It is fast with its quad core possessor. This is a great multitasker with its floating widgets. There is plenty of real estate for apps and widgets. The video quality and performance crushes my wife's iPad mini.

Cons: Android 4.2.2, I mean it could at least be running 4.3. Android 4.4 has been rolling out for the past 6 months and Asus is only worried about their PadFone. Hopefully it will be acknowledged soon

5 out of 5 eggsBest tablet for this price.

Pros: I went for this because it has a perfect set of specs for the price point. I was handily amazed.

Build quality is so much better than my nexus 7 2014 and my Tab3. It's a little heavier but I'd take heavier over "the back creaks and pops and bends in" any day. It is glossy and smooth but doesn't feel like a Samsung device that can slip out of your hands like a 12lb bass for no reason at all. The screen is gorgeous, you really have to see it to believe it. Sure it is not the top tier model but the screen blew me away. Compared to a Lenovo and Acer tablet, the Memopad looks as good as a Tab3. The bezel is very well thought out too, it is not too wide, but it's wide enough to fit in my various stands and folios without the screen being obscured.

Cons: Not sure when we will get pushed an update but I don't care because I can flash whatever I want to it. Do yourself a huge favor if you're going to root and do it manually. CWM and RM will play VERY NICELY with this tablet if you are patient and take time to read... The information is scarce but the model is "K00L" which is awesome and plays nice with similar Asus tablet software.

Not a complaint against Asus or the Memopad, but I really hate every single tablet's usb port. WHY do they have to be in places that could easily get bent? Every tablet in this size range suffers from this. Something needs to happen with tablets not only for charging while you're using it but for people like me who like to hook tons of stuff up using OTG cables.

Also it took me a while to get a charging OTG cable to work but I had a portable hard drive and a Xbox360 controller receiver working after about a half hour of troubleshooting.

It isn't a CPU issue but I believe the internal memory is pretty darn slow. I haven't tested much but overall read speed seems identical between that and my 32gb sd card. Oh well.

Cameras are great but you will notice some heavy noise and block-artifacts indoors. There is a somewhat annoying lag between taking a picture and the (needless) shutter animation the tablet displays. The default camera is otherwise a joy to use, I can't say that about any Samsung devices!

Other Thoughts: Samsung fanboys bash Asus for bloatware. Who cares? You can uninstall the stuff that really gets in the way pretty easily. The tablet just feels darn good to use and minus the universal charge/USB socket issues that all tablets have I haven't enjoyed using a touch device this much since my first Galaxy Nexus phone. The white finish and the logo along with the perfectly rounded shell is not only something to show off but also something that will not scratch or crack easily. You can't expect impervious glass in this price range but any decent screen protector is a no-brainer if you have a problem with scratches like me.

If you're deciding between this and a way more expensive Samsung device with the same specs, please, give this a chance. I'm so glad I did.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat tablet for under $200

Pros: Great IPS screen. Plenty bright once you adjust to your preference. 1280x800 resolution for an 8" screen is just fine. Quad core. Quick and responsive, good wifi. Will accept a 64 microSD (SDXC) card (every tablet ever made should offer the ability to expand storage with a microSD card...I won't buy a tablet that doesn't)

Cons: Battery life is not impressive. It's not horrible, but it is a little disappointing. You won't get near 9 hours as advertised unless you leave the screen brightness settings at initial dim factory settings. Wish it had 2GB RAM.

Other Thoughts: Got this for my wife and she loves it. This is best buy in town at sale price of $179. If battery life was better, I'd give it 5 stars easy.

5 out of 5 eggsNice 8 Tablet

Pros: 8 inch Screen. Price, Quad core processor, DDR3 ram, & expandable msd card slot. This tablet is the perfect blend I was looking for. Started with an Ipad Mini Retina, but just didnt like the size of it (just a little too wide). Decided I liked the 8 inch Android size much better but only wanted to pay half of what I had paid for the Ipad. The Asus memo 8 fit the bill for me, handles everything super fast and am really enjoying having it (more than the Ipad mini)

Cons: Not Super HD Screen

Other Thoughts: Even thought the screen is not Super HD, it does look good in most instances. Only when you get super close to the screen can you see individual pixels. Works great for me and the money I saved getting this one will allow me to upgrade to whatever the bigger badder tablet will be in a few years.
Happy Hunting for you perfect tablet.

5 out of 5 eggscharging issue (update)

Pros: see prior review. solved prior charging issue

Cons: can not find a case to fit this will have to special order one..

Other Thoughts: in prior review of the device i stated it would not charge when in off (shutdown) mode. i was able to remedy the issue. if you have the same issue here is what should solve the problem.
if after update of asus 2.0.0.4 the device does not charge in off state you will need to wipe the cache and reset to factory via hard reset. a hard reset can be performed via the following steps.
1. shut device down completely.
2. press and hold volume up and press and hold power on. when you see the asus logo release the buttons. it is normal for screen to stay dark for a few seconds about 5 seconds or so. you will eventually have a "no command" with a red triangle warning.
3. press and hold power and tap volume up. you should now have a menu up. goto bottom and wipe system cache. restart device. *note pressing power power =enter*
4. repeat steps 1-3.*** EXCEPT do not perform wipe cache.***
5. now goto factory reset and select yes. then allow device to restart.
goto settings >battery and take notice of percentage. shut device down.
plug in charger wait about 30 minutes it should have charged. somewhat. i do not recommend using a usb port charger from a pc they do not have the same voltage or amp ratings as the one that was supplied.

as best as i can tell there appears to be a residual code that does not allow charging when off in the cache or new settings are not loaded with the asus update and must be forced to new update. or removed from old cache. this solved my issue. for no charging in power off state and i will not RMA this device..
