2 out of 5 eggsMixed Feelings

Pros: Great hardware internally, touch screen is nice, battery life is adequate, and the number pad is good to have. New Egg RMA process. Very quiet. Aluminum case.

Cons: French Canadian keyboard takes a little getting used to using, REFERB IS JUST A REPACK AND SHIP! First one I received would shut down every time you sneezed... bad connections, like it had been dropped, second one has many signs of wear and space bar only works if you gorilla stomp the middle of the key... EXTREMELY Annoying!

Other Thoughts: To Newegg's credit, they replaced the first one no questions asked... I have not tried to RMA the second one because I already used one Norton Subscription for the first returned laptop... and chances are the next one will be worse... I have purchased many "Refurbished" items in the past, and read reviews that I should have stayed away from recent newegg refurbished items... now I know... I'm still on the fence about this one because it is still a great deal for the included hardware and laptops disposable anyway!

Overall, I have slight buyers remorse for not just going for a slightly more expensive comparable new model.

5 out of 5 eggsOther Reviewers are Stupid

Pros: Tons of speedy hardware and plenty of storage in the separate HDD.

Cons: Said Keyboard in other reviews. For $27, you can buy an external keyboard and mouse combo. Or, since it's touchscreen, you can use the onscreen keyboard. Don't complain when you're getting this much, for this cheap.

Other Thoughts: Really think about these other reviewers and their complaints. How easy is it to fix yourself? Is it worth spending another $300-$400 for less features and a proper keyboard, or is it easier to take the hardware, and add on a peripheral device that solves your problem?

2 out of 5 eggsBilingual Keyboard = Bad, Very Bad

Pros: Powerful processor, Windows 7 with choice of Windows 8, Nice Case, Good Price, lots of nice features!

Cons: Comes with Bilingual French Canadian Keyboard that is horrible. If you are used to a standard US keyboard, this machine will drive you nuts. Even the Canadians hate these keyboards! Look at pictures - the "shift" key is split into two parts, shift and some kind of French characters. When you type anything that requires shift, you have to stop and carefully push the left key, not the French punctuation key. If you type with one finger, I guess this would be no problem. For ten-key US keyboard users, this is not acceptable. For me, I will not buy a computer with a bilingual keyboard.

Other Thoughts: The listing (when I bought this) did not list the "Bilingual Keyboard." I expect better of Newegg. I buy from Newegg because I expect to understand what I am buying. If you see a bilingual keyboard - run!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive review you have provided to the laptop. I apologize if you are experiencing difficulty using the keyboard. Please allow some time to get use to the keys since it is doesn't come with a standard layout and feel. Should you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3541560 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: great price, slim, includes DVD writer, ethernet, vga port, and dedicated graphic card, touch screen, nice touch pad.

Cons: keyboard space bar was not working well. Resolution is pretty low. It does have fan and sometimes gets a little bit noisy.

Other Thoughts: It was a great product for the money. For me, I don't need anything faster than this one. I wish though that it came with higher resolution monitor. The screen was clear and bright.
Touch pad is not as good as Apple's touch pad, but better than other laptop touch pads. It comes with software to control it so that you do things like two finger scroll.
It was slim though not as slim as a true ultrabook, but it came with what normal notebook computers come with like DVD rom and ethernet port.
