5 out of 5 eggsDef worth the money

Pros: I got this for school use, some gaming, netflix, and general internet surfing.

-Description says and some folks noticed a few dings and scratches, and some other people haven't. I looked everywhere for an imperfection - i couldn't find one. Looks brand new.

-backlit keyboard, great keyboard overall style (comfy),

-Games run smooth (that i played - Borderlands 2, Skyrim, bunch of indie games, L4D2). I usually don't get into the heavy AAA titles or popular (moba, WoW) games. Def a step up from my old laptop. I'm sure you can run the gfx heavy games like AC:BF, BF4, etc. but on medium or low settings. All in all it works for me.

-has touchscreen. prob not going to use it much for hey it's a bonus

-CD/DVD drive - prob won't use it but yay i guess?

Cons: -Not a fan of windows 8 but can't blame the laptop on that everything has windows 8 now.

-HDD is slow yea we know it is but if you really want a SDD should be easy to switch out

-Really don't like the touchpad. Maybe it's just me. That's what the mouse is for i guess.

2 out of 5 eggsPromising but disappointing.

Pros: Decent value for your money specs wise.

Cons: Laptop required a lot of updating, which is typical when you get a laptop that ships with windows 8 not 8.1. Ran through updates and found terrible gaming performance in 1 of my games. A Lenovo 410 with HD4400 outperforms this laptop in this game that I've been playing- I manage 30 fps on the lenovo and this laptop struggles to deliver 15+. I thought perhaps it was due to using wifi, but that changed nothing. And of all the games, this is team fortress 2. Not a modern game by any stretch of the imagination, but this i7 is struggling to keep pace with this game.

The software makes it tough to select the nvidia video or the intel chipset, though despite telling the system to use the nvidia chipset, I get the feeling it's still using the intel chipset.

Im using the geforce 337.88 drivers, I am going to try upgrading to the beta drivers and see if that helps. I updated the laptop firmware to the latest revision.

4 out of 5 eggs

Great keyboard
Touchscreen - Great for WIndows 8
Not too much bloatware

2 out of 5 eggsHeavily scratched refurb

Pros: Beautiful screen, descent price, haven't used it enough to say more. It will be hours before the things is usable.

Cons: Heavily scratched for a refurb, usually you get a refurb and it's good as new, or maybe a light scratch, but this thing is scratched all over the top and bottom. I work on computers for a living and haven't seen a notebook this abused in a while.

Other Thoughts: When some people say it looks like new, and some people get one scratched up really bad, I don't think somebody is doing a very good job of grading these machines.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jason,

Thank you for liking the beautiful screen and descent price of the laptop. I apologize if there are deep scratches on the unit upon arrival. All ASUS products undergo intensive qualitycontrol testing and inspections, this is an isolated case. ASUS provides warranty for the laptop in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140717463 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsamazing

Pros: My Lord this thing is a beast!! I was very wary about purchasing my new laptop with out an ssd but this loads up in 15 seconds I'm on Google!! Blows me away everyone that sees it says how beautiful the screen is and asks me how much just paid to get touch screen windows 8 with a dedicated graphics card. I'm playing the games of the past year or 2 on ultra setting everything looks amazing so much so I'm selling my ps4!!
I was worried Bout it be being refurbished but after close inspections there was not 1 mark scratch or blemish looks brand new .

Cons: Battery seems to go in about 2 hours of gaming which stinks about 3 with regulAr use of internet

Other Thoughts: The keyboard is mostly great although the top numbers and feel are a little tight I keep hitting them used to desktop keyboard

2 out of 5 eggsCant upgrade to ssd

Pros: screen 1080.

Cons: not easily upgradeable

Other Thoughts: This model has issues with ssds and asus is just saying that they dont recomend that you upgrade the system in any way. Why would I buy a laptop with an i7 if I have to be stuck with a 5400 rpm drive? Pointless.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you are niot allowed to upgrade the hardrive into a SSD because opening the btottom cover voids warranty. Please do the upgrade at your own risk. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140712317 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The unit feels solidly made. The black aluminum is nice and the keyboard is decent for a laptop. Back-lit keys are an added bonus. In daily usage the unit keeps cool.

The screen is fantastic. The touchscreen aspect is an added bonus. It is a great replacement for my previous laptop. For the price it is a steal. My unit showed a very slight scratch on the outer shell. Not at all bothersome and very much worth the discount.

The hybrid video card setup works great. NVIDIA for heavy duty, Intel for added battery life.

After receipt, I promptly removed Windows 8 (ick) and installed Ubuntu 14.04. So far so good. The only compatibility issue was getting the screen brightness keys to work. I had to add a special ACPI commands to Grub and away I went. Everything else woks great.

Cons: The battery life appears decent but not great (in the 4hr realm). You'd think with a low voltage i7 it would be better but the battery is small. Nothing to write home about but not terrible.

My only gripe is the track pad. I don't like how the buttons on the bottom of the track pad are integrated with the touch surface. When trying to press the buttons, I often end up moving the cursor before clicking. This results in me clicking on the wrong thing. I've discovered I need to adjust my clicking style. This appears to be a common gripe with newer Asus laptops. There is probably a way to fine tune the trackpad but for now I shy away from using it when I don't have to.

2 out of 5 eggsI want to like this notebook

Pros: - Beautiful 1080P display
- Ok gaming experience (often 35 - 60 fps at moderate settings)
- Decent battery life - ~2 - 3 with consistent heavy use like movie watching or gaming, and 4-5 hours with standard browsing
- Touch screen! I know some people are lukewarm on the touch screen, but I absolutely love it and can't see having a system without one in the future
- Only minor scratches on the *two* I have now had (due to return)
- Great price for system with these specs and touch screen

Cons: - Video issues: downloading the latest NVidia drivers slowed down the frame rate significantly, so I had to roll back to the drivers that came with device.
- Bluetooth issues: Bluetooth just hasn't worked great - doesn't connect, so I installed latest Bluetooth drivers. And now it only connects with a lot of disconnect / remove device / reconnect activity - each time. It's 2014 - time for PCs to 'just work' like 90% other devices out there...
- Finish scratches easily. I am pretty sure that's why have so many Grade B scratch and dents. I feel like I have to handle the system with kid gloves to keep it from getting scratches. I noticed that the button from my sleeve leaves marks on the deck, for example.
- System reliability. I know occasionally customers have bad experiences. Well, I am one of them, so I will let you know about it. The first one had to be returned because greforce video card displayed 'red snow' and random polygons when on. Now for my replacement Q550LF I moved the cover/ display while it was running, and the display disconnected! No jarring experience mind you, but a gentle adjustment of the display. So now I need to ship it off for a repair. What a headache!
- System just feels 'fragile' with scratch-prone finish and wonky display issues

Other Thoughts: I was so excited to get this system, and when you turn it on the display and touch screen are just fantastic. But issues with the finish, video card and display have left me disappointed.

I was looking forward to giving this system especially a positive review because I really wanted to be happy with this PC, but after my frustrating experiences I can't.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsIt's okay

Pros: Great value for the price. Fluctuating between 50-60 FPS on TF2 on the recommended settings (medium-high).
40-50 FPS on Far Cry 2 on maximum Strong dual-core processor

Cons: Very slow HDD.
4-5 minutes to reboot when on high performance and plugged in. I don't know why it takes so long, my 7 year old ASUS that came with Vista, which i upgraded to 8 can reboot in 30 seconds.
I emailed ASUS for support asking why it takes so long and if something is wrong - I updated the BIOS as well.

Other Thoughts: Great value for the price, I recommend switching out the HDD with a 7200 or SSD to get this thing to fly.

Other than the issue with it taking 4-5 minutes to reboot, and having the laptop freeze when doing a memory test, this would be a 4 star machine. Haven't heard back from ASUS yet about the issue.

I just wish ASUS would get back to me.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so impressed.

Pros: The refurb makes it totally worth it:
-Great 1080 touch screen
-Good med-high dedicated graphics card
-8GB RAM
-Keyboard is backlit
-Can't find any "Scratch and Dent" issues. Looks brand new

I got this for general use and light gaming. Plays Skyrim, Borderlands 2, and Civ V on high settings at 1080 resolution.

Cons: None, but I've only had it for 4 days. I'll update if anything pops up.

Other Thoughts: I'm satisfied with the purchase so far. I was skeptical about the "i7" processor when purchasing as it is only a dual core rated at 1.8GHz, but it has handled everything well so far. Seems to ramp up to 2.9Ghz readily when plugged in and processes turns on Civ V faster than my dual core Phenom II desktop.

Windows 8 was frustrating at first, but after upgrading to 8.1 and installing Classic Shell, it is fine.
