5 out of 5 eggsFast, Pretty, and Light

Pros: -Very mobile: lightweight and battery lasts a long time
-Fast: starts up in seconds
-Looks cool: gorilla glass is shiny and attractive

Cons: none that I found

Other Thoughts: I bought this to bring to school and starbucks. If I leave with it fully charged, I'm all set for hours - hardly ever need to plug in. Mainly use it for programming and browsing. If you want an ultrabook with all the bells and whistles, this is it.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh quality notebook

Pros: Fast performance, beautiful design, awesome trackpad, great display.

Cons: None. Only "con" was I did have to do an RMA, but ASUS fixed my issue in 1 day and replaced my notebook. A+!

Other Thoughts: This is the perfect Windows computer. It is drop dead beautiful and super high quality. So much detail and attention has gone into this product. The all glass back (while it does have lots of fingerprints after a bit of use) is a joy to feel. Not only is fast, but the display...oh my the display.

It's bright and super sharp. While some apps seem a tiny bit blurry because they haven't been updated yet, everything in the Windows app store looks amazing. Not a pixel to be seen. It's expensive, but you are getting a sturdy and beautiful computer, blazing fast performance, touchscreen, awesome trackpad with super smooth scrolling (macbook like), backlit keyboard, lit up ASUS logo on the back (which looks awesome behind the glass back), and a super thin body.

I have VPN's running, outlook, word, photoshop, Premier pro for video editing open all at once, not a hiccup.

If you have the money, and you can spring for it, you will NOT be disappointed. This is quality and performance wrapped in a beautiful package.

3 out of 5 eggsehh...

Pros: Beautifully crafted, gorilla glass on the top panel and the screen.

Cons: Dead pixel in the center of the screen within the first 60 days, scaling on windows 8.1 is awful at this resolution (meaning it won't stick), SSDs have no over provisioning, striped in RAID 0 but the strip is separated into 2 disks, it's almost pointless. Feels under powered in high performance mode.

Other Thoughts: should have waited another month and gotten the Samsung Note Pro 12.2 instead. =\

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive comment with the laptop. I apologize for your dissatisfaction with the laptop. On the contrary to your statement, setting the 2 SSD in RAID 0 does improve system performance and not slow it down. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3561616 on the subject line.

1 out of 5 eggsused it once.

Pros: makes a good paper weight.

Cons: -expensive.
-once the bettery is dead you can't use it anymore.

Other Thoughts: got it on the 5th, used it on the 6th, wont charge again.
tried an aftermarket psu from best buy, the stats are exactly the same as the one that came with it, battery still wont charge.
The original PSU's led just switches between green and orange over and over again. WIll not charge. VERY disappointed. This thing is FAR too expensive to have stupid issues that could have been caught before it shipped by a testing method.

I followed the instructions to the letter.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product. I apologize if the laptop will not power on. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is an isolated case. ASUS provides warranty for the product. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3541137 on the subject line.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS does not honor warranty.

Pros: Great notebook - good mix of higher end componants competently packaged.

Cons: They agreed to an RMA on my laptop model (similar to this one), and their website indicates they will provide status on the RMA within 1 business day of receipt and will typically complete repairs within 5-7 business days. They have had my laptop for over 20 business days, their service center has not posted any status, and their customer service call center tells me with great politeness (and no effectiveness) every day that it has been escalated to a supervisor and that is all that can be done.

In other words, they lied. They do not care that they have your property for weeks on end, and I still have no idea if they can even find my notebook computer. They effectively have stolen at least my time and possibly my property and make no discernable effort to return it or provide any kind of solution other than you get to wait. Indefinitely. I have been in IT for over 20 years. Asus has the most polite but worthless, unethical customer service I have ever experience.

Other Thoughts: Could be a great product if you could rely on the vendor for service. But thus far I cannot count on them and so will hold off buying their, admittedly well-designed, products in lieu of other vendor's products where they have a reputation for honoring their warranty and service commitments.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We do value our customers and definitely honor our warranty policy. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3541460 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Ultrabook

Pros: Lightweight, fast and incredibly beautiful. Keyboard has a nice feel to it. Trackpad is very smooth and responsive and I usually hate them. Screen is beautiful too, unfortunately not every program has an option for this high a resolution but they look no worse than on a 1080 screen.

Cons: Windows 8 behaves a little strange with a real keyboard and trackpad. If you start at one edge of the touchpad it will activate a gesture instead of moving the cursor, but I'm sure that I will get used to it.

Other Thoughts: Got a great deal on an open box from Newegg, but this laptop is easily worth the full price.

5 out of 5 eggsUx301la - DH71T

Pros: Was Bought one for use with my company.

Far too many good things here:

-Smaller than Macbook Air 13
-As powerful as macbook pro 13
-Raid 0 worked out of box
-1440p IPS panel is indescribably beautiful and clear.
- i7 4558u is best in class for a 13 inch chassis
-When running intensive tasks fans are dead quiet
-Speakers surprisingly loud/clear for 13 inch chassis
-Asus software minimal and mostly useful

The REALLY good things:
-Touchpad is good and the asus software is a benefit to windows 8
- Keyboard is easy to use, especially considering form factor
-Panel is bright and works well in all environments

Overall a beautiful and powerful ultrabook. It sets a very high standard for not only the quality of a computer, but the amount of power we can expect in a 13 inch form factor.

Cons: Not even cons list:
-Battery life is good but not amazing, which is still impressive given the 28w TDP of the chip used in this laptop.
-Web cam is average

4 out of 5 eggstop of the line

Pros: fastest ultrabook currently on the market (2.8GHz processor, intel HD 5100). screen is AMAZING -- not just resolution, but contrast ratio (over 2000:1 is entirely insane), and color accuracy is extremely high. chassis is very well built and this ultrabook is beautiful to look at.

Cons: during benchmarks at notebookcheck the core temp hit 90'C. most users won't hit those temps, but the fact that it got that high at all is bad. also, because of the way the screen moves back behind the base of the computer, the heat exhaust is pointed at the bottom of the monitor. this design flaw breaks my heart, because the UX301LA is otherwise (to date) the most spectacular ultrabook ever made. for those that don't understand why the heat build-up and exhaust port are a big deal: it means the UX301LA will most likely not last. this is, of course, educated speculation on my part and i could be wrong. but i have a lot of tech experience and heat is a serious factor in the lifespan of a computer. that is the only reason i gave this laptop 4 eggs vs 5.

this has already been stated by others, but the way windows implements the whole touch screen interface and high DPI graphics scaling is beyond horrific. this isn't asus' fault, so i didn't drop an egg for that.

Other Thoughts: unfortunately, i was simply not comfortable with the manner in which this laptop manages heat. as much as it saddened me to do so, i returned mine. again, i could be wrong about the heat thing (and only time will tell), but i just wasn't willing to risk it at this price point.
