Pros: This laptop has a very crisp 1080p screen and the overall build quality is good. The screen feels a little flimsy when you open/close the laptop, but it isn't going to fall off. On the inside, this is probably some of the best hardware available for the price. It does have a 5200RPM HDD inside, but that is pretty much the standard for any laptop in this price range.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The particular laptop that I got actually shipped with Windows 8.1 and I only had to install a few updates. There is a lot of pre-loaded Asus junk programs, but that is easily removed. I also took a peek at the driver versions and they are over a year old at this point - I haven't tried updating them yet. Unless I run into problems...maybe I won't at all.

Pros: 1080p monitor, decent APU, dual channel RAM (8GB), good build quality

Cons: somewhat hard to replace components (gotta take apart the whole laptop just to get to the hard drive)

TERRIBLE driver support. AMD Catalyst Control Center and related software provided on the ASUS website are almost a year out of date (and the custom version is the only one that properly uses the Radeon Dual Graphics setup in this laptop, upgrading to the drivers provided by AMD results in a performance drop when using the dedicated GPU and wildly inconsistent framerates when Dual Graphics is enabled) If you want to run any 3d applications and need consistent performance, I recommend running it on the integrated graphics since the low memory bandwidth of the HD 8670M renders it's 2GB DDR3 basically useless and it performs slightly worse than the integrated 8650G. Sadly it looks like nobody actually tested the hardware when they chose the components for this notebook. Simple benchmark tests and running a few games would have shown just how badly the dedicated GPU performs, and the lack of a working Dual Graphics solution at this time means that it is essentially useless and just sucks up extra power. Too bad you can't disable it in BIOS...

Other Thoughts: On another note, I saw an ASUS rep state that they cannot provide factory restore disks due to the BIOS containing the COA for Windows 8. This is entirely untrue. If you need to replace the hard drive or do a clean install of Windows 8/8.1 for any reason just go to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media and follow the instructions provided by Microsoft. The ISO that is downloaded will automatically register the COA key from your UEFI/BIOS and won't ask for it during installation. I like this computer, but the driver issues and lack of options in the BIOS keep me from giving it a higher score. Maybe if ASUS updates the drivers I'll come back and give it another two eggs.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Workstation, If It Worked

Pros: This laptop has a great APU and GPU combo, they run graphic-intense applications very well and I've been quite pleased with its performance despite my many unfortunate events with it.

Cons: This laptop has had problem after problem, first off because this is an OEM product, good luck getting any help from Windows if your OS goes corrupt. At that point you have to send it to Asus to reinstall it, you cannot buy any recovery media for it. I had this happen not once, but twice and the first time both my HDD AND Windows were corrupt, the second time I said screw it and bought a WD Black 2 SSHD and a retail copy of Windows 8.1, couldn't have been any happier after that. Then in the past week, out of the blue my videos start generating artifacts and massive blocking. I attempted to resolve this issue all on my own for several days prior to contacting Asus support. After doing so, they gave me the usual answers, so I just went ahead and tried them anyways. My original hunch was either the APU or GPU graphics went bad, and of course after a few days of narrowing it down I eventually came to the conclusion I had all along. Now I have to send it in for an RMA again, which has started to deteriorate my loyalty to the Asus brand seeing as I own a couple of components of theirs in my desktop(motherboard and GPU). I gave it 3 stars since it really is a powerful mobile machine for the price, the problem is that I've had so many problems with it that I cannot in good conscience recommend this laptop to anyone who is considering it.

Other Thoughts: Laptops are not perfect, I realize this. However, there amount of problems I've had with it really makes me wish I hadn't bought it. I wish I could build my own like a desktop, my desktop runs great and hasn't had any problems like this at all, so it makes me a little more wary of pre-built systems.

Pros: -Video card keeps up with most games, but only if you don't mind sacrificing ultra high settings.
-Low to moderate settings in BF4 work pretty good with a lower res.
-Optical drive (seems less common these days)
-Relatively cool
-Decent battery life
-Feels good if using it on your lap

Cons: -Didn't have 8.1 loaded from start, so some drivers and software had issues within an hour of running.
-Hard drive (5200 rpm) slow performance; but you know that when you buy it.
-Internal components (battery, ram, hd, etc) can only be accessed if you remove the entire bottom shell
-Lid is a little flimsy but opens firm and doesn't move

Other Thoughts: Looking at it on paper it looks pretty good. With that said, AMD is good, but even with higher clock rates, you are better off with an I5.

Windows 8 would have been a con, but am getting used to it and it really isn't ASUS's fault. Just haven't had the time to downgrade yet.

Overall very pleased with it. Not a huge gamer, primarily used for work, video editing, photo editing, and programming. Keeps up well for the price.

Cons: Hard drives failed after that. I now have a paper wieght

Other Thoughts: Impossible to get a recovery disc for this. ASUS was wildly unhelpful

Pros: None. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

Cons: Malfunctioned within a week. ASUS tech support wasn't helpful - it seemed to take a long time to convince them that there really were hardware issues. By then, the Newegg warranty had expired. Eventually got an RMA from ASUS. I had to pay postage and packaging. ASUS returned the laptop quite quickly but the touch pad was not properly seated and did not work and the housing had been damaged during repair. Another RMA. This time, ASUS paid for postage via FedEx, but ASUS had returned the laptop to me in a box that FedEx said was inadequate, so I had to pay for packaging again, in order to be covered in case the laptop got damaged in shipping. Now they have had it for more than 3 weeks. Every time I contact them, they say they are escalating the case, or it's in the mail, or they are waiting for parts, but it doesn't arrive when they say it will. Meanwhile, I'm left without a laptop. Expected a lot better from ASUS. There seems to be no way to contact someone who knows what is going on. If they really are waiting for parts, and could keep me informed about what was going on, it would be more acceptable, but I get a different story every time I contact them, even though I give them the RMA number etc.

Pros: Has decent CPU and is a fair pc for the price, works well with most games and school work.

Cons: Windows 8 ruined the laptop, I'm not sure if it's a driver error, or if windows 8 is just bad- but I've been having issues for weeks now.

After managing to get through the windows 8 updating issue after two days or attempts and solutions, I've stumbled upon another problem.

Windows 8 is programmed to set your internet usage to limited after a certain amount of data use?

After looking for permanent and temporary solutions, nothing seems to work. The laptop will be connected for twenty minutes before switching to limited.

I used my older laptop from 2009, and it stays connected perfectly, while this toggles between limited and lagging connections.

Friends who recommended windows 8, and ASUS have never experienced these issues.

This is a horrible experience for my first time with ASUS.

Other Thoughts: I actually enjoy this computer, but not being able to use the wireless functionality is a real damper on the product.

Pros: -A-5750 w/8760M is plenty for some light gaming since AMD can utilize its "dual graphics feature" which allows it to use the APU's graphics component as well as the discrete GPU to improve performance.
-8 GB RAM
-Super comfortable keyboard. There's lots of room for you to rest your palms when you type. (Touchpad and keyboard remind me of the Macbook Pros.)
-Large touchpad which makes navigating Windows 8 a breeze.
-Thin, sleek. Build quality seems great. The casing doesn't feel cheap.

Cons: -No SSD . While not exactly a deal breaker when it comes to laptops of this price range, having one would've been very nice.
-Took me ~7 hours to install all of the Windows updates and Windows 8.1. However, this is more of a Microsoft Windows problem, rather than a problem for Asus.

Other Thoughts: All in all, this is a solid laptop. And it is a bargain, especially if you can get it on sale.

Pros: I bought this laptop because it was on sale and had a dedicated graphics card for casual gaming. I needed a new laptop for grad school and this seem to fit the bill. The laptop runs pretty quickly, even on battery power.

Cons: I've had several issues with this laptop when it comes to gaming. I bought this laptop because a couple of other reviews stated that it could run WoW at 60fps on moderate settings. Unfortunately, this was not my experience. I was constantly stuck at 20-30fps no matter what settings I used. I found phone support to be unhelpful, but I got a different person each time and they made me do the same troubleshooting over and over again. Update drivers on the site and if that fails refresh. Unfortunately, I had updated the drivers myself and it appears that ASUS is very slow with updating their AMD drivers as the ones on their site are a full year behind version wise. I finally gave with this issue.

The other issue I had is the dreaded windows update issue that is almost impossible to fix. Again, support send me around and around with system refreshes. I found that the problem goes away if you manually update to Windows 8.1

The hard drive is very slow and causes Windows to take forever to load on reboot. I'd like to update to a faster hard drive, but I'm not sure if this will void my warranty or not.

Other Thoughts: All around this looks like a good laptop, but I found ASUS support to be unhelpful, especially live chat support. If ASUS did a better job of keeping up to date graphics drivers, I'd be a lot happier. Perhaps they will release updated drivers once Windows 9 comes out.
