1 out of 5 eggsWorst laptop ive owned

Pros: Fast, sleek, and beautiful design.

Cons: Worst quality control for a laptop ever. I am switching to mac after this laptop it was so bad. First thing, a few months of ownership, I find out the auxilary port isnt even positioned correctly and would require a new solder. Few more months later, the optical drive cover falls off and find out its held on by the tiniest pieces of plastic, then to top it all off, the display will shut off when you move the screen and sometimes when it was just sitting there.

Other Thoughts: I was so excited with this laptop, I bought a 500 gb ssd to put into it, then it slowly fell apart worse than any electronics device ive ever owned. I mean seriously, how does quality control slip through sooooooo bad. I had an ASUS rogue (one of those bulky gaming computers) but wanted something more sleek and less, well... geeky looking so was excited for this. Nope, never buying an asus product again, even selling my asus router for an apple airport. A laptop that costed me so much new shouldnt fail so hard. Also, my asus rogue rubber feet eventually fell off during ownership. To sum it up, DONT buy asus laptops.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm glad that you find the laptop sleek and fast with a beautiful design. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, these are isolated cases. ASUS provides warranty coverage for the laptop. If the auxiliary port if not properly assembled and optical drive front bezel fell off, you may need to send the unit in for service. If you need further assistance with the warranty service, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150737979 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: -Sleek
-Loud speakers
-Responsive touchscreen
-Can run games at higher settings

Cons: -Poorly placed DVD eject button
-Slow HDD speed

Other Thoughts: Let me just say that my last three (3) laptops, including this one, have been ASUS products. I found them to be the biggest bang for the buck in terms of performance... until this laptop.

All in all I had been satisfied with this laptop for the first eight months but then little issues started popping up. First it was certain buttons not working until I pressed harder. This issue would show up randomly and then would go away. Now at my ten month mark, my laptop would turn on but would only show a black screen.

Since my laptop is refurbished and it has been more than 90 days since my purchase, it isn't covered by any warranties anymore. I took it to a computer repair shop and was told it might be a motherboard issue. I can understand if your laptop breaks down after a few years but if it happens after less than a year then that is due to quality issues. Now I'm rethinking my loyalty to ASUS.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear John,

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product. I apologize if the system will not bootup suddenly. Please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to reset and clear the memory. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. If the unit still failed to bootup, you may need to send it in for service. If you need further assistance with the service process, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150548882 on the subject line.

Regards,

Rodel

1 out of 5 eggsBeen Had

Pros: Looks Good Strong shell great graphics

Cons: Cooling vent poorly placed. Hard shell makes ports harder to access. touch screen jumpy.

Other Thoughts: When i received my laptop i was supper excited until i noticed that keys on the keyboard did not work. There are 8 keys that do not work even slightly. also this laptop had a problem running anything. Just today i was using the asus pain application that came preset on the laptop and my laptop crashed. Aslo there is something internal that is rattling around and has completely broken off or unscrewed itself from on the inside. Running any sort of game on my gaming laptop causes it to crash. When it crashes it will not boot properly unless i turn it off and on several time. I had my school IT department look at it and they could not find anything wrong save a loose battery and maybe a faulty hard drive.

3 out of 5 eggsDied after 6 months

Pros: Silent
Runs Cool
Very slim
somewhat light weight
beautiful screen!
Very good Keyboard
Loud and Clear speaker!

Cons: Battery is under 5 hours of web use
Trackpad somewhat small for my preference

Other Thoughts: Bought it 6/7/2014 and it died the 30th of January 2015.
It died like this: I put the laptop in my Canvas bag, go in the bus, take it out in the bus I try to power it on, but nothing. I try to recharge it but the battery light wasn't turning on. I shaked the laptop and heard something inside. I opened the bottom of the laptop and discovered a free small screw lying around. Since then, the laptop won't charge or turn on.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsIt's a very buggy PC

Pros: Handles some video games reasonably well. Definitely not going to allow you to run anything graphically demanding though.

When it is operative it is a very fast computer

Cons: This laptop cannot reboot, it cannot stay connected to wireless internet (even after all of the fixes for windows 8 randomly disconnecting), and it is inoperable for around 10-15 minutes upon manual rebooting.

I paid 800 bucks for a PC that has very annoying hardware issues that Newegg has refused to help me out with.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
I'm glad that the laptop can handle some video games reasonably well. I apologize if you are experiencing stability issue with the laptop, failing to reboot and wireless connection dropping. In order to improve system stability and performance, please install all recommended WINDOWS Updates before using the system. We recommend using a LAN connection to speed up the update process. In regards to the wireless connection issue, if you are accessing web applications, please verify if the laptop is within range to an established wireless router and internet service is working properly. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150123184 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this thing

Pros: After a fresh install of windows 8.1 and the addition of an ssd this thing boots and is ready to go in 7 secs with pw entry. Full drive scan with Bit Defender took all of 42 seconds. There are lots of useful reviews out there on YouTube to help you decide but it's worth knowing what you're getting.

I'm running Ableton Live 9 with tons of tracks with no sound card hooked up. Great for my traveling studio. Love the touch screen. I found with the 8.1 update the screen actually had better flow when navigating and swiping things. At first it seemed really fast and uneven.

If you do a fresh install I would recommend visiting Asus' driver pages to at least get the Smart Gesture and touch screen utilities. Beyond that I'd scrap all the bloat ware. Runs way better without it. Don't forget to download all necessary drivers from the Asus webby. They are essential to this thing running well.

Cons: None yet!

3 out of 5 eggsJury Still Ourt

Pros: - Nice clean look
- Fast response and boot
- Detailed PDF instructions

Cons: - Failed to refresh Windows updates on first tries at rebooting
- DVD eject button is very awkwardly placed
- 10 Key pad layout is odd

Other Thoughts: The jury is still out on this one since I've only had it a few days. After I rebooted it the machine went to reconfigure Windows and kept failing. After starting it again today everything worked fine. I'm going to see how things go this next week and re-evaluate. At that point I'll modify my review either better or worse.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Value!

Pros: Excellent full-HD screen, good touchscreen, excellent graphics performance, has an optical drive, good value (features for the money)

Cons: A little heavy, a little thick, it's large compared to other 15" notebooks (this is NOT an ultrabook), the optical drive works well but would be nice if a blu-ray drive were available and if it were slot-load vs. tray-load, I think I would prefer a VGA port instead of a mini-display port, refurbished version does not include external subwoofer, optical drive bezel fit on bottom is not even (see other thoughts), battery life is OK but not great, power brick is HUGE

Other Thoughts: I really like it so far - it took a while to get all the Windows updates installed and working, but I now have it updated to the latest Windows 8.1 update and it's working well. After about half of the updates had installed, I tried playing a favorite game, and one of the updates must have affected the cooling policy, and the fans did not engage (causing the computer to overheat to more than 90 deg. C) - so make sure you finish your updates and reboot before gaming. It's working fine now, so I don't think any permanent damage occurred.

The gaming graphics are excellent for a laptop and the touchscreen works very well and has excellent picture quality.

Sound quality is pretty good, I would say above average for a laptop. The backlit keyboard is alright - it washes out easily in low-light situations but works well in the dark. I would also point out that the "0" key on the number pad does not extend to below the "1" key (the right-arrow key is there instead) which takes some getting used to, and is not standard compared to other keyboards I regularly use.

My only complaint is really that the bottom of the bezel on the CD/DVD drive doesn't align very well with the bottom of the laptop case on the back side. It fits fine (it's not loose or broken), but the bezel's design doesn't match the contour of the bottom of the case (which is really a design issue, not a manufacturing/build-quality issue).

One other note, I got the refurbished version of this, which seems new, except does not come with the external "subwoofer" that the new retail model does.
