5 out of 5 eggsWorth it...

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JZ-XS72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 32GB Memory 1TB HDD 512GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M 4GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit

Pros: It does what it was designed to do. I appreciate the simplicity of no touch screen or 3D. It is amazingly quiet for it's power (my old Asus G50 is louder), and it's not as heavy as I was expecting for a 17" class laptop. And I like the space-aged battleship look (and thank you for a matte finish).

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is a positive review because I did my research and framed my purchase around what I wanted from a new computer. I also chose a Asus because of the G51 that's still going strong, and the mobo that still fuels my 2-year old desktop.

In other thoughts, the performance is beautiful with my secondary monitor (HDMI to a 23.6" display), and since 1920x1080 is 1080p, the max resolution does not seem like a limitation (the human eye is only so good). Windows 8 is taking some getting used to, but there's enough retrograde features that a Windows 7 user can manage. Finally, thanks to Newegg, I paid what I think is a very fair price for a performance system that's not too far from the front line of client user technology. Bottom line, the G750 is great, and worth every penny.

4 out of 5 eggs5 Month Follow Up

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JZ-XS72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 32GB Memory 1TB HDD 512GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M 4GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit

Pros: . It has its own legs!
. Overwhelmingly powerful, ram is total overkill and a fantastic future proofing investment.
. Screen lid is much more sturdy than the g75. Don't need the foam layer inbetween it and the keyboard to prevent scratching.
. 5 to 6 second count from power button press to login windows screen.
. stays very very cool.
. Everything is very quiet except the blue-ray drive.

Cons: . keys feel slightly sensitive, don't always 100% of the time register my key presses unless im firm with my typing.
. still not a fan of the brushed metal this laptop uses for the entire keyboard area/hand palm resting points. it shows all smudges and is a pain to keep clean/ clean period.
. blue ray drive is noisey when initially reading discs.
. occasionally takes up to 45 seconds to power down, which is odd because usually it takes about 4 seconds to power down.

Other Thoughts: This is my second review for this laptop, scroll further down to find my initial one. This laptop is still a beast, Shadow of Mordor just came out two days back and this laptop runs it on full ultra settings with optional high res dlc smooth as silk 98% of the time. occasional split second hiccup when going ghost mode. not often though.

I'm always using this thing for everything i do and i take it all over the place so she's seen a good bit of rough use and takes it all in stride.

1 out of 5 eggsPoorly document junk with operating system to match

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JZ-XS72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 32GB Memory 1TB HDD 512GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M 4GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit

Pros: On paper it looks good -- plenty of memory, spacious SSD drive, large auxiliary hard drive, good graphics card, nice display, and it does start up quickly.

Cons: When you spend this much money on a laptop, you shouldn't get something loaded with junk software (ASUS games, McAfee, non-functioning version of MS Office), you should get a manual that describes the product in some detail, and it should work as advertised. I am still trying to figure out how to get into BIOS, and hitting the F2 key as described in the manual simply does not work. Neither do any of the other usual keys. Is there a specific nanosecond during POST in which the F2 key has to be hit? Could that be what I'm missing? Of course, with all the disclaimers that have been written in to the manual, such as stating that specifications are subject to change without notice, there's no telling what ASUS actually sold me.

Never having used Windows 8 to any great extent, I was cautious but optimistic. Now, having used it for a few days, it's a disaster. There are some improvements Microsoft has made -- I like the refinements that have been made to Task Manager, for example -- but on balance, very few of the changes that have been made from Windows 7 to Windows 8 are positive or make things faster or easier to do. Mostly, it seems that Microsoft has sacrificed ease of use with a mouse so that the same operating system will work on phones and tablets.

Other Thoughts: Most users are probably going to be happier with something smaller and lighter than this, unless you don't plan on carrying it around frequently. With its power supply, this thing is quite heavy and bulky.

So if you want a laptop that's basically a desktop, you don't mind paying extra for an operating system that's unnecessarily hard to use, and you're willing to roll the dice with what ASUS actually gives you -- by all means, this is the laptop for you.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeds expectations

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JZ-XS72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 32GB Memory 1TB HDD 512GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M 4GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit

Pros: Cool, Quiet, fast. This laptop exceeded all expectations that i had for it, running any games i own on ultimate graphics settings with no problems at all.

Cons: It doesn't make chilled beverages?

Other Thoughts: When i ordered this i also ordered a nice cooling tray for it, the cooling tray shipment was messed up, so i've been using it with no pad under it gaming for 8+ hours straight and still haven't seen temps above 40c for the processor or 68c for the graphics card. I would recommend this to any enthusiast that is considering a gaming laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGood deal!

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JZ-XS72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 32GB Memory 1TB HDD 512GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M 4GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit

Pros: Excellent, or should I say eggcellent deal, paid almost 1000$ more from a boutique laptop seller, I got less ram, but changed a few other things, wish this had popped up a couple months ago!

Cons: It's fans give it a thicker booty than I remember the G73 having so the fit in the backpack is tighter than I like. haven't found a bag that looks better able to hold it yet.

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic Laptop as always

This review is from: ASUS ROG G750 Series G750JZ-XS72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 32GB Memory 1TB HDD 512GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M 4GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit

Pros: I've owned a g71, g73, g75 and now this g750 with top end 32gig ram, 880m geforce and blue ray burner model. This laptop series just gets better and better with each model year.

. Improved design from my g75. g75 lid felt flimsy and fragile, this g750 feels solid all round.
. Better chicklet keys on keyboard,
. Very very fast loading from power up, everything is quick. All my games run max ultra settings.
. I love the cooling system of the g series from asus.

Cons: . Mcafee wanted to do all my updates for me for windows, and managed to bork up the job so badly that windows 8 uninstalled everything mcafee attempted to do automatically. I manually ran windows update, good to go.
. Asus's registration page continually pops up every time I turn the laptop on but the registration process times out or errors out every single time.
. Very sensitive touch pad, easy to swipe when typing. Solution? Turn off the touch pad, gamers don't need it anyways heh.
. Not a fan of the brushed metal flat smooth surface look of the keyboard area. I liked the matte surface of my g75 with silver brushed metal keyboard area better. Looked cool and didn't succumb to finger prints as easily as the g750.
. Audio jacks are now on same side as my mouse, really wish they'd reverse the whole thing and put the cd drive on my mouse side and all the cable jack/ports on the left. Coords can potentially get in the way of my mouse use.

Other Thoughts: . Ordered sunday night 9pm, arrived tuesday afternoon 1pm. Nice!
. Windows 8.1 is only option, this will be hit or miss for folks. Me? Took about 10 minutes to get comfortable with it having never used the os before. Good to go.

Final thoughts : Mostly fantastic update, few gripes but nothing that makes me regret my purchase.
