5 out of 5 eggsCorrect charger

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: Scratch that the gomadic charger died on me aswell. Look only for the PWR+ TBAM3 it's 5V 3.5A and actually charges the transformer book to full capacity, even when it's asleep. I think because it has the "external" harddrive to take care of it needs higher amps

Cons: Use only 3A charger or higher (5V)

4 out of 5 eggsFor the money, get it

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: Sensitive screen to the touch, firmness to the keys and secure attaching, detaching modes. Perfect as a tablet, nice as a laptop.

Cons: Mouse clicker makes incredibly cheap noise every time depressed; I just touch tap the touch sensitive cursor because the click is so annoyingly loud. Also,
Roughly into the third week of having this thing, the charger died on me. I awoke one morning to find it not charged and I was not pleased. I could tell the charger was a cheap third-party piece of gear, but I wouldn't suspect from ASUS it would die within a month.
I ordered the Gomadic replacement one from Newegg immediately and got it in today. It is working solidly so far, albeit slowly. It is only 2A compared to the 3A one that is shipped, but maybe that is the problem. The micro-usb assembly seems more solid on the Gomadic as well. In short, if you buy this computer, buy this charger, and save the OEM one for backup.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT PRODUCT!

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: Fast! As long as you are not bogging your OS down with malware, the OS runs everything at blazing speeds. Very fast response times. The quad-core CPU delivers as expected even when running demanding applications like Fruityloops music software.

Long Battery life.

Great docking station, like the feel of the keyboard / touchpad. 500GB internal on docking station more than expected when buying a tablet.

Will run Skyrim on low settings..... LOL!!! Hey why not? Its not a gamer but it can still deliver on ALOT of games. So you can imagine it will run older games fairly well.

Installing Classicshell gives you full Windows 7 desktop functionality. Now I can use the Win8 functions whenever I want to IF I want to, but I mostly just use the Win7 interface now.

Compact and portable

Bluetooth

Cons: 1 USB port on Docking Station / No Ethernet (I bought a $15 Targus usb hub / ethernet adapter here on Newegg to fix that)

Not a true "gamer" pc, but I knew that when purchasing, even though I found it still does a decent job on certain games. Great for all old school or older games.

Audio just a tad bit low from the speakers unless you play a movie in VLC and use its "200%" amplifier. Then its fine, otherwise, I usually use headphone anyway so whatever.

1 camera facing you and none on back. This makes it difficult to say, take a photo and see what it is your taking a photo of without craning your head around to see the screen and take the picture. While its not always as difficult as I made it sound, it can be frustrating if your trying to get a perfect picture to sell something. Not a huge con since I still take great pics with it and get my work done, but still worth mentioning.

2GB RAM - Its enough for this light-weight OS, and does what its designed to do, but me being the pc guy I am, I like to stretch things a bit, so it would have been nice if they made it 4gb of ram. I just make sure to keep the OS clean of malware, and make sure that only the things that need to run in the background are running.

Other Thoughts: Over all, this is the best windows based tablet / laptop with docking station I have found for the price. Some people had issues with running windows updates before they installed the Asus updates, but there are always flukes in every product. Some bought the refurbished ones and had multiple issues but thats because they were refurbished. So far my experience has been great. A fast system with a Windows 7 desktop using classicshell, running all my apps a blazing fast speeds, and an occasional game or two. The small sleek form factor makes this easy to take with me in my backpack, and its small enough to just whip out anywhere you are in public without it drawing to much attention. The long battery life gives you some peace of mind knowing you can get most anything done during the day if you are unplugged. A great multimedia / business / gaming device. With the 500gb internal hard drive in the docking bay I can store most everything I want to and install my programs/games onto it as well, rather than the limited ssd "c:" drive. Im going to say that this is a great product even though there are a few minor drawbacks that do not affect me enough to give this any less of a rating than it deserves.

4 out of 5 eggsWonderful first laptop, with some quirks.

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: Touchscreen laptop, and is a shiny new toy. I love having a laptop now, and use it mostly for college notes and such. Haven't had many of the docking problems that previous reviews have mentioned. I rarely use it as a tablet, just because I find it to be a bit too large to comfortably hold like that.

Cons: It definitely has some quirks to it. Within the first month of having it, perhaps even the second week, the battery became hit or miss. It went from charging really fast, to barely holding a charge at all. Even when it was plugged in, it would be discharging battery. Only solution I found was to change chargers, and not use the one that was included with the computer. I started using my phone charger, which has the same size port, and it worked for a little while. However, over time, the laptop has killed that charger too. On the third charger now, hoping it holds out longer. The battery seems to be fine now, although I have to completely shut the laptop down overnight if I don't have it plugged in, or else I will find it dead in the morning.
- Has a bit of trouble starting up after being shut down. I have to hold the button down for the 3 seconds to get it to try and boot like normal, it starts booting, then shuts back down. Then have to hold the power button down for an additional 10 seconds before it finally comes back. Not necessarily a problem, just a quirk.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Annabeth,

It's great to know that you love the Transformer Book. I certainly understand your concern regarding the battery charging issue. Please verify if the unit is runing with the BIOS v227 or later. The shutdown issue can be a WINDOWS related. Please install all recommended WINDOWS Update to resolve this. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140962135 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect College/School Computer

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: I bought this last minute as the semester had already started and my other laptop died. I am thoroughly impressed. The solid state drive accesses all necessary programs very quickly, the extra 500 gb in the dock are perfect for storing all the files I have to download for school, and coming bundled the Office software is perfect for getting work done. Microsoft 8 gets a lot of hate, and this is my first outing with the system, and I have to say I think a machine like this is what Microsoft had in mind when they designed it. The ability to use a keyboard and mouse and then switch to a tablet in the middle of a project is gloriously easy, and surprisingly useful. If you are a student, the new version of OneNote will change your life.

Cons: Only very minor gripes (which are easily overlooked given the product and price): A small keyboard and work space. The touch pad is easy to tap accidentally while typing, The touch pad is occasionally finicky, but I like using a mouse anyways.

Other Thoughts: At first I was really nervous about the 1.33 GHz processor and only 2 gb or RAM, but after using this for school for about a week, it handles everything from Office, Internet, light gaming, and multitasking just as fast as my last computer (2.5 GHz and 8 gb of RAM), but for a lot less. I also love the screen on this thing. It might not have the resolution or color quality of a Mac, but I've still streamed HD videos on Youtube without a hiccup. I've had 3 or 4 programs running at the same time without it skipping a beat. So unless you need a computer for computing, CAD, or heavy gaming, this computer will do just about everything else for a fraction of the price.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware! Does not connect properly; screen cracked from pressure

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: Concept is good. Execution is not.

Cons: The connections issues on the T100 I received were tremendous. It was shipped to me as a defective product. The keyboard would not stay connected/ seated to the pad/ screen, straight out of the box. It disconnected repeatedly and often. I had to unattach it and reattach it to get the keyboard to talk to the pad, so many times. Even when sitting still on a desk. Sometimes 5 times in a row. Hundreds of times. I bought this computer to go traveling with for 7 weeks. I informed both Newegg and Asus of the seating issue before I left, within 30 days of purchase. After about 10 days of use for about an hour a day, while it was sitting open on a table, the LCD screen spontaneously cracked directly FROM the place where it did not connect correctly (when facing the screen, the left connector). I imagine that the pressure on the screen from a poor mechanical connection of the 2 parts caused the crack. It is a manufacturing defect, that caused the screen to spontaneously crack. The screen went nuts, basically tapping itself rapidly, exerting pressure on itself from the crack. It was unusable for the remaining part of my trip. Also, the one other person I met while traveling who had this exact same computer had the same connection/ would not stay seated issues, although not as severe/ often. BEWARE!

Other Thoughts: I called Newegg to inform them of the seating issue, and then from Italy about the cracked screen, all within 30 days of purchase. After my return, Newegg would not allow a return, because it was then past 30 days. I am now dealing with the manufacturer. They call the cracked screen 'damage'. I did not damage it. It damaged itself.

5 out of 5 eggsBest thing since sliced bread....

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: -Compact
-Lightweight
-Battery life is very, very decent
-Win8 & Office 2013 FREE forever, just don't lose the card.
-Slick design, very nice grey color
-Screen is reasonably bright
-Screen easily docks to keyboard (unlike the TF300T's)
-2-in-1! (Tablet + Laptop...what could be better??)
-Win8 runs anything I throw at it
-500GB in the keyboard! Amazing value.
-Great price ($380 + tax + shipping)

I'm incredibly happy with this purchase. I couldn't stand the Asus TF300T any longer due to unit sucking after an update, so I bought this and I haven't looked back. Win8 runs fantastic and I have no issues whatsoever other than a hotkey driver issue I had.

From a productive side, this Office version is very good, lots of helpful apps in the store (the ones pre-installed are awesome too like the Finance and Mail one). I'd trust this unit to do some serious work on.

From an entertainment side, I installed every game I played from the 90's and early 00's onto the 500GB (CS 1.6, Diablo 2, Rollercoaster tycoon, etc.) and much, much more. The games run superb!! Wish I had this baby in 2002. Also if you're into comics, DL 'cover' it's only $3 but it's a very nice comic app, better than Android's Perfect Viewer.

Oh and the keyboard isn't that bad. I can type at the same rate as on my desktop.

Cons: -Build quality is entirely plastic but the keyboard doesn't feel that bad.

-32GB isn't much at all... I have about 7GB left after updates, essential apps and whatnot (games and such go to the 500GB). Do NOT purchase the 64GB though. I will not come with the 500GB keyboard HD.

-Fingerprints easily print onto the screen, but that's what screen protectors are for.

-It could use another USB port.

-Mini-USB port too close to the HDMI port, it can get confusing at times.

-I don't like the feel of the volume, Windows, and power buttons. They feel too sunk in making it hard to push.

-No rear camera, but that's not important.

-MousePad left/right click feels way too firm

-Windows Apps CANNOT be installed elsewhere but in the main C drive. Not Asus' fault however, it's Microsoft's.

-The App store isn't as good as Android's.

Other Thoughts: If you decide to purchase it do the following:

1) Buy the Poetic' leather case along with a screen protector immediately after purchasing here or wherever. You'll thank me later.

2) Once you've obtain the unit, UPDATE! Update Windows AND Asus drivers, especially the Bios. You might have to install the ATK (Hotkey) drivers again. Mine got corrupted; the brightness hotkeys wouldn't response.

3) LEARN the Win8 start menu! It isn't that bad at all. I like it now.

No way should this have 3/5 stars!

1 out of 5 eggsWifi is broken.

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: Has some nice qualities

Cons: The wifi no longer works 4 months into ownership. Also, the product always had battery issues. Battery would drain even when you would shutdown the device, you cannot leave it on like a tablet in standby mode.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had not bought.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far So good

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 - Intel Z3740 Quad Core 2GB RAM 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD 10.1" Touchscreen Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1 (T100TA-H1-GR)

Pros: Light. Cheap. Ironically good storage.

Cons: Speed & Upgrade ability (but knew that going in) boot from an USB is tough to achieve

Other Thoughts: I purchased this as a temporary replacement for my dead laptop. It is good in the field for the tech work I need to accomplish. One thing that was VERY DISAPPOINTING and prevented 5 eggs is that I could not flash a dual boot, let alone have any install media for the unit. Having an image would be nice for anyone that is a tech.
