5 out of 5 eggsFantastic for the price

Pros: Size, light weight, price after rebate, touchscreen, battery life.

Cons: Refurbished units have their recovery partitions wiped, which are internal and can't be recreated.

Other Thoughts: I've had mine now for just over 2 months, and it's exactly what I was looking for - a very portable (small, lightweight) Windows-based laptop. I previously bought a Microsoft Surface, but didn't care for the flat no-key keyboard. The keyboard on this Asus is great, once you get used to the small size.

The touchscreen is great, making Windows 8.x usable and easy to learn. The microusb slot for additional storage is also great, as class 10 cards are inexpensive and fast. The CPU and memory are great for this unit - all applications I've used have run well and quickly.

The T100TA I received looked brand new, and has functioned flawlessly so far (knock on wood). I did modify the mouse pad settings as recommended on the Asus forums, which eliminated the quirkiness during use.

I received the rebate with no issues, making this unit quite a bargain compared to anything else in this category.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth more than the cost

Pros: Fast for everyday use
battery life

Cons: smudgy
slow charge

Other Thoughts: I got this for school and it exceeded my expectations. DO NOT expect this machine to run games or other intensive programs but for light use this is near perfect. Its battery life is easily 8 hours of use and days on standby but it takes forever to charge. It is well built but the touchscreen smudges badly and the track pad feels cheap. Despite this for the cost I think this is one of the best tablet/laptops for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed with Hardware

Pros: -Runs Windows programs
-Feels solid
-Nice screen
-Nice keyboard
-Boots up pretty fast
-Expandable storage options
-Good size
-Good value (I received a $50 rebate from a Newegg promotion)

Cons: -Negative user reviews here make me nervous

Other Thoughts: I have spent a few hours with this tablet and I am pretty impressed. I considered the Dell Venue 8 Pro, however, by them time I added a keyboard it seemed like the cost was higher than the ASUS.
I did a fair amount of research and have had no nasty surprises with the ASUS; the quality (it feels pretty solid; the screen looks great; the touch controls work well; I like the interface of Windows 8) of the tablet has so far exceeded my expectations...basically, I like Windows and this allows me to use Windows programs (Dwarf Fortress, for example) instead of having to boot up a bulky laptop.
My only concern is what appear to me to be awful user reviews on Newegg (I think this tablet has an average of 2 out of 5 eggs?). I have not read through all of the user reviews lately (I did before I first bought the tablet two months ago), but the low total rating makes me wonder if it's going to have problems soon...however, it's been great so far.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate: Back to Asus for 2nd Warranty repair

Pros: Great concept when properly executed. Most folks will not have as much time to fiddle with it as I do. The Pro is that it is easy to get to real people on their support 888 phone number, and they really try to help - no run-around. (Email forms and chat, not so much.) I will give them another try on an RMA under the 90 day Mfg. Warranty.

Cons: Could have worked perfectly in the first place, like Nexus 7!

Other Thoughts: For Geeks, Windows 8.1 is fun - even handy once you get acquainted, , but it is BLOATED - like a Boeing 777 built around a 747, built around a DC-9, built around a Piper Cub, built around a VW Bug!

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: Nice form factor. Keyboard is good quality and feel.

Cons: Doesn't work. Almost never turned on after sleeping. Battery would die overnight. Now the tablet has completely gone dead. I have submitted an RMA request through ASUS.

Other Thoughts: Save your money.

4 out of 5 eggsGo ASUS for warranty within 90 days

Pros: Impressive build quality, but squirrely operation. Remember that this unit has a 90 day Warranty from ASUS; Newegg, as stated, will not replace or refund it. I have had similar issues to the other reviewers, and after more than 40 hours and 4 reinstalls, driver updates, etc., it appears they have a batch of weak, rapidly deteriorating SSDs. SO: Go to the ASUS web site, open a case number, then call them. I found their return and repair process quite smooth. And the repaired product you receive will still have a 90 day warranty. I will update this review on my results.

Cons: Does seem defective as received. Lots of random errors after many reset attempts.

Other Thoughts: My experience with other ASUS products tells me: "Let them repair or replace it." Newegg's policy on this was clear - they will neither replace or repair; although the "Standard Warranty" statement on all Newegg invoices is somewhat misleading.

1 out of 5 eggsThe tablet stopped working

Pros: It was a wonderful tablet until it stopped working.

Cons: Harddrive must have failed as it boots into bios. In the bios boot tab it does not show the harddrive. Seems like harddrive conked off. Beware as the refurb quality does not seems to be good.

Other Thoughts: refurb unit quality seems to be really bad

2 out of 5 eggsRefurb ASUS T100TA problems

Pros: I like how the tablet is a comfortable size and works well.

Cons: The unit I received has given me 2 problems. First, after docking the tablet to the keyboard, the keyboard does not always connect. When it does, it is only for a second or two, rendering it useless. Sometimes applying pressure to hold the two together lets it make connection, but only until letting go. Second, sometimes the tablet doesn't come awake when pushing the power button. After being unused for a day, sometimes it requires me to hold down the power button for a long time for it to restart, when I just wanted for it to come awake. This is very annoying, and sometimes I have to fidget with it for a while before getting it to turn on and restart.

Other Thoughts: I hope the RMA process is smooth. I don't want to be without my computer for weeks before a new one is sent...assuming ASUS agrees to replace it.

5 out of 5 eggsTURN off windows updates @ first!!!

Pros: Full Desktop version of regular Windows 8.1 - 32 bit. (Not the useless windows RT which is not real desktop windows).

Processor is capable of 64 bit but 32 bit is recommended for all the functions to work on this device.

Mine worked out of the box and was pretty much in new condition for me. The UPC code was on the shipping box. I see the horror stories of DOA on the reviews on this section it's possible that I got lucky or happen to know what I was doing.

It's affordable and fast the intel atom baytrail exceeds my expectations for the atom.

32 GB but comes with a hidden 8 GB read-only recovery partition. The 64GB doesn't have this.

Can play league of legends and hearthstone on lowest settings. (better for regular computer use)

Cons: Have to be somewhat tech savvy to get the most out of this tablet.

For example installing start8 or classic shell to get your start button (like windows 7)back. (Can still use metro if you wanted to)

You will get into a computer is updating and restart loop if you start windows update before the asus updates....

In fact it might just be better to turn off windows update in general... (but this will make your computer more vulnerable than fully updated windows). Always update windows defender definitions though (its your anti virus)

Sleep drains more battery with keyboard connected.
If you disconnect keyboard before sleep battery levels stay within + or - 2%.

Other Thoughts: I sold my gaming laptop and got this instead of the surface pro 3 because I wanted a tablet hybrid with full windows at an affordable price.

I'm waiting on a surface pro with the broadwell SoC and Intel Iris Pro graphics so I can play some more graphic intense games. I definitely don't want to spend $1000 on the surface pro 3 without the broadwell chip.

This is definitely a better deal than the surface pro 1. Although the processor is slower than the pro 1... it only uses 2 watts and gets me around 8 hours battery (thats 2-2.5 times longer batt life!!)

Get a micro-usb OTG to usb adapter for an extra USB port. (This plugs in your charger. NOTE: micro-usb NOT mini)

Keyboard takes a short time to adjust. Nothing annoying. The right shift is just smaller than a full sized right shift.

Definitely check out the forums dedicated to this device for some awesome tips and advice for it.

For some reason my wi-fi did not work at my college until I spoofed a different MAC address (weird).

16:9 ratio bad for textbooks but good for 720p videos.

HTML5 player for youtube is a lot faster than flash. Can install in chrome as an add on.

Highly recommend sumatra PDF reader on this. It's fast. To full screen you tap screen with both thumbs. To rotate books you use thumb and finger and turn clock/counterclockwise. To exit full screen you tab screen with 2 fingers again.

Should update to latest BIOS for all the new fixes by Asus.
