5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy

Pros: Fast, simple and all I need for college

Cons: None so far. I haven't had it long, but so far there's been no issues, and I love the features.

Other Thoughts: I picked this Chromebook up for college, choosing it specifically because of Asus' reputation for good quality equipment. It has all the features I'll need for school, plus maybe a few extras.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Product Poor Shipping

Pros: This is an excellent product for people willing to break away from mainstream Microsoft products. With everything moving to cloud based there is no need for the old standard computer or laptop. This is the fifth Chromebook will have in the home. Cannot speak highly enough of the product.

Cons: Very poor shipping from the vendor. This first four Chromebooks came from a different Newegg vendor and I had them within four days with free shipping. This vendor made me pay for shipping and it still is not here over a week after orderings. I do not like vendors that use FedEx Smartpost. Plus the other vendors shipped from further away then this one. This vendor was the closest to me and it is still taking longer. Not very happy with the vendor in this case.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsP Good

Pros: This is a wonderful little computer, especially for the price. I bought this to use for school, and had originally intended to replace ChromeOS with a linux distro (more on this in the cons). It easily has a 10hr battery life, but I often find that I get upwards of 14. It's light, stylish, and simple to use, and would be ideal if one wanted it for school, or perhaps travel. Just keep in mind the limitations of the system.

Cons: This computer does not have the option to boot from USB, and along with no disc drive this means you cannot replace ChromeOS. I'm pursuing a degree in Computer Science, and bought this computer to use my programming classes. Unfortunately, ChromeOS does not support any of the development environments that I need, so I needed something else on it. The only solution I was able to find was using a chroot environment known as Crouton, which works quite well. I can easily switch between the two, and I have all the development capabilities of a common linux distribution, with the more common uses of ChromeOS (which is compatibility with the online homework service that my school uses, flash, etc....) Another thing worth mentioning, but only hardly, is that whilethis computer is very smooth, and for the purposes I've previously mentioned, along with browsing the web and watching videos, it works flawlessly... except on a certain image-sharing website that loves giraffes. This site is such a CPU hog that it consistently causes the browser to crash. Again, not a big deal, unless said website is your life.

One other issue I feel I need to note is that, while the compute does feels as if it's ofquality, the case gives way when pressure is applied. What this means is that I often find that my computer has been turned off while in my backpack (even in the laptop-sleeve), due to the weight of the books. This issue isn't as annoying as it could be due to the fact that this laptop can be up and running from entirely off in less than thirty seconds.

Other Thoughts: Keep the small amount of HD space, lack of a disc drive, and inability to boot from USB, in mind.

4 out of 5 eggsIt is a good tablet for the price.

Pros: Screen not too small or too large.
It is much faster than the previous models of Chromebooks including some of the earlier Samsung Chromebooks when it comes to speed and weight.
No issues so far so good.

Cons: The display is more like the old LCD models that where a bit more grainy when compared to a samsung Chromebook which is more clear.
It is more matte which probably helps with glare but I do like a crisp and clear screen!
Also, keyboard is not lit like some of the other keyboards when compared to Samsung Chromebook which makes it harder to find the keys when in dim light.

Other Thoughts: For the price, functionality, speed and weight it is it your average good functional Chromebook.

4 out of 5 eggsas said in the other reviews good for school

Pros: My old college laptop finally died after all these years so it was time to get a new one. After spending an excessive amount of money on my desktop build I thought it would be best to get something simple for school. I figured a chromebook would fit my needs best. Something that I can just take notes on, read emails and powerpoints/pdfs.

Cons: Runs a bit slow from time to time. As stated above this is for simply reading emails, writing notes, and looking at powerpoints/pdfs for school. That is really all this simple machine can handle. Sometimes I watch netflix/youtube on it and the video glitches ahaha maybe too much memory is being used. who knows. The only other things I did not like was 1 the finish on the material the laptop is made with. even the slightest fingerprints will look like a greasy mess which will annoy those who are OCD. Finally I just noticed this but when the laptop is shut i think that it is still secretly on running updates. You can hear this very quite high pitch ringing which is very annoyign since I leave this on my nightstand when i sleep.

Other Thoughts: regardless of the cons it is still a cheap reliable machine (so far). I would of given this machine 3 stars but i remembered how little i paid for it. REMEMBER YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. :)

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for school

Pros: this thing does exactly what I wanted it to do. I am an automotive tech student and out test, textbook and homework are all online so I needed something I could take with me to school and have great battery life. This does both things very well.

Cons: probably not as fast as the other intel based chromebooks out.

Other Thoughts: This is not my sole computer but just my on the go computer. I have my custom built gaming rig for serious computer stuff so all this needed to be was an internet browser I could take anywhere but be easier to type on than a tablet. Also long battery life was important to me as I use this at school and work every day from 8 in the morning to 7 at night and have yet to need to plug it up during a day like that. I find my self using this thing a lot other than for saving big files, playing computer games and things that this thing simply cant do but that is what my gaming pc is for.

5 out of 5 eggsIt is an internet terminal

Pros: 7 s start start up time
Virus protection built in
Automatic updates
Cost, cost, cost

Cons: The screen has a narrow up and down field of view.
No home or end keys.

Other Thoughts: The parental units are looking for a computer and I am going to have them try this one. Since I will be the tech support I would rather the computer take care of itself so I don't have to.
It works great with my corded mouse, I have not tried anything else.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Machine

Pros: Form Factor - Thin, Light (but not to), No major flex.
Learning curve is shallow for a standard PC user and I would wager fairly easy for a novice.
Touchpad is large and responsive, and keyboard better than expected.
USB 3.0 is a nice feature as well as SDHC expansion.
Screen has good color and a matte finish is always nice.
Battery life is the best Pro on this list, solid all day use, 8-9 hours on heavy use.
Great for chrome users and perfect for web browsing and youtube watching.
Good quality build and PSU, nice res webcam.
Silent due to no fan, yet still stays a good temp even with lap use.
HDMI and USB 2.0 for docking; when docked has a full PC feel.
Nice packaging.
Fairly easy to disassemble (small phillips is all thats needed) for cleaning or battery replacement in the future.

Cons: Ok so on to the Cons, can't complain too much though because of the low price point.
Full black finish makes the keyboard hard to see in low light and makes it feel almost cheap.
Slow down on multitasking (5 or more tabs are near implausible or at least futile due to lag)
Integrated RAM and SSD make upgrading unattainable.
Headphone and Mic combo port is inconvenient (at least to my needs).
Almost near intolerable LCD viewing angles, I find myself adjusting the monitor frequently to enjoy content.
Inconsistency in the casing (plastic under spacebar is slightly bowed down, but still fully usable and nearly unnoticeable at first glance)
I could probably find other thing but at two hundred and twenty bucks I'm happy with my purchase. It does what I expected it to do.

Other Thoughts: Like I said there are cons to the unit but with its great price you get more that what you pay for (my opinion). The battery life is great, and for web browsing in the recliner it's pretty awesome. I dock it at work for a remote control to diag PCs at my shop. If you can get it sub two hundred and fifty then pick it up, you'll find a use for it. I wrote the review on it as well :)

4 out of 5 eggsNifty little computer

Pros: This little chromebook runs great and with the hdmi port I can easily go from this convenient 13.3" screen to the big screen. I have had it a little over a week now and have never gone scrambling for the charger considering it will last another hour at 10 percent.

Cons: Web only

Other Thoughts: There are ways around the web only part, but nothing I trust
