3 out of 5 eggsA decent replacement for a tablet/laptop

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: The processing speed is adequate for most usages. It runs MS Office, PDFs, and with no problem streaming videos online. I love the touch screen it works as precise as my ipad air and the display is decent comparing to its competitors.

Cons: The keyboard is fragile, the mouse touch pad broke after the very first time of use.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsOverall its alright

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: Decent tablet in terms of processing performance, you could do word/ppt/excel/pdf, and multitasking with no problem. It also stream online video fine. The resolution is above average on this size.

Cons: The keyboard itself is fragile, the mouse pad broke when I used it at the first time. It does not has a non-glare screen, so it makes it really hard to read articles especially if you are staying under sunlight, because the reflection is really bad. You can't read anything when your background has bright lighting. The screen also catches finger prints a lot comparing to its competitors or an ipad.

Other Thoughts: I bought it ONLY because it was on sale at $220 and it came with a FULL version of MS office. I use it as a replacement of my laptop and my ipad when I want to do paper work away from home and office.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's good to know that the Transformer Book is alright overall. I apologize if you were dissatisfied with some of its features like the keyboard and the screen the laptop. Should you need further assistance regarding the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150398897 on the subject line.

1 out of 5 eggsVery disappointed

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: Nice display.

Cons: Dock is poorly constructed.

Windows 8.1 is a real disappointment. I would like it better with Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: The Display/Keyboard dock (at least on my unit) is defective. It thinks the display has been detached from the keyboard when it has not. This means the mousepad and keyboard stop working. Aside from the one time I tried tablet mode after purchase, I have used it exclusively as a notebook. This has been an issue from day one.

In order to get it to "re-dock" I have to apply pressure to the display/keyboard joint as if I am reconnecting the two. This even though they were never actually disconnected to begin with.

This usually occurs when I change the tilt angle of the display; or sometimes just by simply moving the unit on my desk. Very frustrating because the unit does not always "re-dock" easily either.

I have been loyal to the Asus brand for years and have never had a problem with any of their products until now.

The unit "un-docked" itself five or six times while I composed this review.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. I apologize if you are having a connection related issue with the tablet and the keyboard dock. Please make sure the tablet was pushed all the way down to the keyboard and locked in place. An indication is the lock switch will be all the way to the right side. Also, please verify if the unit is running with BIOS 227 or later version. If the troubleshooting tips were already done to no avail and you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150366182 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsGood harware, great software, awesome price

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: + Much cheaper then a MS Surface Pro 2
+ Comes with a Full version of MS WIndows 8.1!
+ Comes with MS Home Office 2013!!
+ Comes with detachable keyboard which also acts as a dock which also has 1x USB 3.0 port!!!
+ 64GB storage
+ Long Battery life

Cons: - The keyboard can be completely unresponsive at times, so I have to detach and reattach it to function again.
- The mouse pad buttons are a bit stiff, but not really a problem.
- Only 2GB of memory. You cannot upgrade the memory even if you were to pry it open and desolder the ram and replace them. I read somewhere that the T100 can only support 2GB anyways.
- Screen resolution is 1366 x 768 v.s. the Surface's 1920 x 1080 resolution. Not a big deal on a small 10.1" screen though.

Other Thoughts: The unresponsive keyboard can be frustrating at times, but like I said before, you can just detach and reattach the keyboard and problem solved. You just have to seat it good and tight.

What really sold me is that you get a full version of Windows on a tablet, not that horrible RT version, yet you are still paying the low price of a MS Surface RT! You also get a full version of MS Office as a bonus!

You even get a detachable keyboard which you would have to buy separately for the Surface for $90! Also, the T100 keyboard acts like a dock, so you can sit your tablet up just like a laptop. The Surface keyboard acts more of as an attachment. This allows much better range for adjusting the angle of your screen and better stability then the kick stand you get on the Surface.

Overall:
I gave the T100 four stars for it's good hardware package awesome software package, and low price. If it didn't have the keyboard issues and also came with 4 Gigs of ram, it would have been 5 Star perfect! I highly recommend this little guy if you are considering buying a MS Surface product for yourself, family member, or friend.

4 out of 5 eggsGood business tablet

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: Comes fully equipped with student/home office 2013. Asus, provides 1000GB of cloud storage to accommodate the 64GB local storage. The tablet touch screen is responsive and the perfect size to watch movies and read on.

Cons: This tablet runs Windows 8.1 on a 32 bit operating system, which I was sorta disappointed about. Some more nit picks would be that the tablet is a bit on the heavy side and keyboard is a bit on the small side for me.

Other Thoughts: This tablet can replace your laptop, if you don't mind the small keyboard. It is a fully fledged laptop running the full version 8.1 operating system. This tablet would be recommended for those who need to get work done on the go and still have time to watch a movie on the side.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall great tablet

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: Highly portable, Great quality for the price, good for students

Cons: Slow charging times and the charger is short so if you wanted to use it while charging you have to be really close to an outlet.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat but major hotkeys issue

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: Great price for what you get. Full Windows 8.1 and not RT. Reasonably fast with a quad core processor.

Cons: I would have gave this thing at least 4 stars if it wasn't for the FN (hotkey) issues. No matter what you do, the dock keyboard ALWAYS is stuck on hotkeys. If you press the letter "U"... a number 4 appears. Letter "I"... a number 5 appears, etc... I tried out a separate bluetooth keyboard that also has hotkeys on it and same thing. BUT!!!! I plugged in a normal usb keyboard (with NO hotkeys) into the doc usb port and it works just fine.

Tried updating all drivers, bios.... still doesn't work. Tried finding where to disable hotkeys in the control panel and bios screen.... nothing.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure I'm past any warranty on it since i bought it about 3 months ago..... sad :(

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you are having issues with the Hotkeys. You did mentioned that you have updated the BIOS and all drivers. Please make sure the ATKACI driver was also updated. 2 out of 5 eggsworked fine for a while

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: did what it was supposed to for 2 hours

Cons: something happened to it the first day I had it. The touchscreen worked fine with the keyboard for a while, but after two hours of usage the screen had trouble interacting with the keyboard and did not respond to the mousepad. Typing is a bit strange too, the keyboard will read some of the keys wrong.

Other Thoughts: I paid for a warranty, is there any way to get a functioning model? at least a functioning keyboard perhaps?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Manny,
I apologize if you are experiencing stability issue and the keyboard became unresponsive. In order to improve system stability and performance, please install all recommended WINDOWS Updates before using the system. We recommend using a LAN connection to speed up the update process. If you are accessing web applications, please verify if the laptop is within range to an established wireless router and internet service is working properly. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N141211831 on the subject line.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet, but Wifi issue

This review is from: ASUS Transformer Book T100 Intel Z3775 Quad Core 2GB DDR3 RAM 64GB SSD 10.1" Touchscreen 2in1 Tablet w/Dock, Windows 8.1- Red (T100TA-C1-RD(S))

Pros: The Asus Transformer T100 is a great tablet. Full fledge Windows 8.1 instead of RT allows any program to be installed which could have been installed on a previous version of windows. As an added bonus the tablet comes with Windows Office featuring Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote included with the tablet. A $100 value to be added to other tablets. This device can and has replaced my laptop which, as a student, I used to take to class to with me. The 5-7lbs difference between my laptop and the tablet may not seem like much, but with textbooks and notebooks added in every little bit can help in lightening the load. The battery life says 8-11 hours depending on use, but in practice this tablet easily lasts all day. I am a Computer Science major and spend a fair amount of time coding on this. I also take notes, surf the web, and play the occasional game. The battery easily lasts the majority of the day with my usage only needing to be charged once a day each night.

Cons: There are only two issues I had with the tablet was wifi connectivity, and no backlit keyboard, but the lack of a backlit keyboard was a minor flaw when compared to the wifi connectivity issue. Resuming from sleep or standby mode would cause the tablet to lose connection to wifi, and when reconnected it only had limited connectivity. Limited meaning it was connected to the router, but no internet access. I eventually found a fix that at least solved the limited connectivity issue, but the disconnect and lack of auto reconnect is still a problem although not as much as it originally was. This fix has made the tablet much more usable and I hope it helps you as well:(Contents pulled from an article I read online)

Fix: Limited WiFi connection problem in Windows 8.1
Some Windows users are experiencing a strange problem. After installing the preview version of Windows 8.1, they observed that their device was showing ‘Limited Connectivity’ error in WiFi status and they couldn’t access the internet until re-connected.

I realized this is a common issue with Windows 8.1. In some cases, even resetting the device and starting over didn’t help. After following some forums, I thought of giving some suggestions, one of which I found on Answers.

Limited WiFi connection
First create a system restore point. Then right-click the ‘Start’ button to access ‘Control Panel’ option and select it.

Next, chose ‘Device Manager’ option.

Next select ‘Network Adapters’ and under it, you will find a Wi-Fi controller listed. Select it.

Double-click the controller to open the adapter’s Property window and switch to ‘Drivers’ tab.

Next, click the ‘Disable’ button and hit ‘Ok’ to apply the changes. See if it helps. If it does not help, re-enable it and proceed to the next step. If the above solution fails, try doing the following. Open an admin-level command prompt in Desktop mode, type the following commands, and hit Enter after each command:

netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
netsh int tcp set global rss=enabled

Then type the following and hit Enter, to verify that practically all the settings are disabled.

netsh int tcp show global

Finally, reboot your machine and see if this helps. If it doesn’t help, you could also try the built-in Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and see if it helps.

Other Thoughts: This is a great tablet, but the tinkering needed to fix the wifi issue is enough for me to take a star off.
