2 out of 5 eggsTiny text

This review is from: ASUS Zenbook UX303LN-DB71T Ultrabook Intel Core i7 4510U (2.00 GHz) 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2 GB GDDR3 13.3" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: The clarity of the image is great
It is lightweight
Starts up very quick

Cons: The on/off button is too close to other commonly used buttons, so the chances of accidently turning it off in the middle of working is higher. Poor design choice, there.

The text in many programs is minuscule. Using Evernote I can hardly make out the titles. When I open Anki I have to squint to read. Even in video games the text is made very small. I played around with DPI scaling, but this didn't solve the problem. I don't know what causes this, but I would love to find a solution. Is there any kind of update that can address this issue?

Other Thoughts: Other than the size of the text, I think it is a pretty good machine. If the text in many different programs wasn't made tiny by this machine, I would give it 5 stars.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Joseph,

Thank you for the positive comment you have provided to the laptop. I certainly understand your concern regarding the location of the power button. In regards to the small text sizes, you can adjust this by going into the display properties and select either medium or larger settings. If you need further technical assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150738281 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

This review is from: ASUS Zenbook UX303LN-DB71T Ultrabook Intel Core i7 4510U (2.00 GHz) 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2 GB GDDR3 13.3" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Fast, Light, comfortable keyboard, and fantastic screen.

Cons: track-pad is a bit underwhelming.

Other Thoughts: Had no real problems with this laptop. from coding with eclipse, or playing FFXIV while away from home, this computer performs well. I travel a bit, so having something that is light, and can still perform is really nice. only issue i have is the track-pad is a bit quirky at times, but find my self using the touchscreen more then not to make up for it.
I did have a small issues with the secure bios feature when i first set up the device. but once i disabled that in the bios, it booted, and completed the initial setup without any issue.

3 out of 5 eggsDie Hard Asus User Review

This review is from: ASUS Zenbook UX303LN-DB71T Ultrabook Intel Core i7 4510U (2.00 GHz) 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2 GB GDDR3 13.3" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: The computer is a beautiful system, great design and features. The high resolution screen is awesome

Cons: There are so many problems getting it to display correctly to a normal 1900x1080 monitor, many programs are not viewing correctly on the high resolution screen and it just seems like way too much work to get it all right. I am pretty disappointed. The other thing that REALLY floors me is the performance. I ran a windows performance test and got a surprisingly low graphics score. The hard drive score was over 8, but the system is no where near as responsive as an Asus 13.3" all in one I have that has an i-5 processor, 8gb of ram, and a Samsung 840 evo ssd I installed in it. The zenbook took over 2 minutes to restart, and its startup time was surprisingly low. I am not bashing the computer or the brand because Asus is an incredible product, but I just wasnt happy with the overall vibe I have with this zenbook. I am going to return it today and buy another asus system with 1900x1080 so I can use external monitors easily.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy until they fix the awful Yellow colors

This review is from: ASUS Zenbook UX303LN-DB71T Ultrabook Intel Core i7 4510U (2.00 GHz) 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2 GB GDDR3 13.3" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Extremely high build quality
Great performance for such small size

Cons: - The color calibration of the screen is extremely bad and can only be fixed via a firmware / driver update if it ever becomes available.
- The high resolution QHD screen is a waste of battery life as you cannot achieve acceptable frame rate unless you lower resolution.
- Many apps exist that cannot scale correctly; resulting in extremely small and unreadable text.

Other Thoughts: ASUS offers a version of this laptop overseas that has a 1080P screen. This screen has much better color calibration and is more suited for the graphics capability of the included hardware. It also results in better battery life.

It's a huge shame this version is not sold in the U.S. ASUS took an almost perfect laptop and ruined it needlessly.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great to know that you like the extremely high-built quality and great performance of the laptop. I apologize if you are having a color related issue with the video. Please try to manipulate the settings using the ASUS Splendid utility and if the video driver is outdated, please try to update it using the file posted at the ASUS Support website. If you need further technical assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N141156824 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.
