4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Laptop

Pros: This laptop is an awesome buy. I decided to get this laptop for mainly school work, but I also wanted the ability to play some games. This laptop definitely won't be running anything on max but I play most games just fine: BF4, AC3, Counter Strike: GO, Alan Wake, Diablo III, Tomb Raider, etc. For the price this laptop can't be beat sure it's not perfect or the most powerful but I was on a budget and this thing has been a beast so far. I would definitely recommend this to someone who's looking for something that can basically do it all but can't spend $1,000 plus on a laptop.

Cons: The only cons I currently have with this laptop is that the screen is definitely not the best and could definitely be better. It doesn't have but one good viewing angle and the resolution could use some work but if your like me you probably have a TV or spare monitor you could plug it into, but really I've gotten used to the screen and it's not a big issue. Also it's awesome that it has a number pad but it is really crammed together in order to fit; the rest of the keyboard is spaced just fine. Would prefer it to have an SSD but for the price the 750 gb HDD does just fine and the SSD is something that can upgraded. The pros definitely out way the cons.

Other Thoughts: Overall I would say don't hesitate one bit and buy this laptop;
Asus is a great brand. A lot of reviews have been complaining about the power key being right above the esc key, but I have yet to accidentally hit the power key instead of esc.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Laptop!

Pros: -Very quiet
-Great performance thanks to the i5,840m,8gb ram, its a solid laptop.
-1080p screen
-Full number pad
-Got a great price, $630

Cons: -The Track pad's left and right button are part of the pad, didn't care for this design.
-The converter was at the end of the cord where the plug to the wall is, i fine the ones with the converter brick in the middle better, because mine gets unplugged very easily.
-No back lite keyboard, if it did it would be perfect.

Other Thoughts: Was the cheapest 1080p screen+ dedicated graphics card laptop at the time but its well worth it. It can run BF3 at 1080 on medium settings at around 60 fps! Deadspace 3 at max settings/1080p it kept 60 the whole time. Not bad for only paying 630 for a entry level gaming laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop, cheap build

Pros: First off got this laptop for school and for moderate gaming on the go. Specs are great and its decent bang for your buck laptop. I play older mmorpg games like DDO on very high settings with 70-90 fps and more modern games like Titanfall on med/high settings with 0 lag. It is very thin (thinner than I thought) and is pretty light.

Cons: The stuff this laptop is made off feels pretty cheap. The screen itself bends with ease and sometimes makes me nervous if I close it to quickly. Also this laptop came with a lot of bloatware. After running a few maleware scans it seemed to go away.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The internal components are good for the price, seems to handle everything i throw at it fine. Havent done any gaming on it yet.

Cons: The material this thing is made of is very poor; it honestly feels like a toy. It is made of the same material a cheap $30 tablet keyboard is made of and this device is ~$700. There is no way this device would last all the traveling back and forth from school to work to wherever. I mean honestly, the plastic piece which sits around the edge of the screen separates as i close the device. I barely touch it and i can see into the laptop.

Windows 8.1 is terrible, but that has nothing to do with the device or anything.

Battery gets about 3.5 hrs, kind of negates the point of a laptop.

Other Thoughts: There is a confusion as to whether the turboboost speed is 2.4 GHz or 2.7 GHz. Newegg and the sticker printed on the laptop says up to 2.7, but when i open the computer specs on the laptop itself, it says up to 2.4 GHz.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you are not satisfied with the build quality of the laptop. The material that was used to build the unit is within industry's quality standard. I certainly understand your dissatisfaction with WINDOWS 8.1. Please visit the Microsoft website for helpful tips on how to use the OS properly. To clarify the confusion regarding the Intel® Core™ i5-4210U Processor, the maximum turbo frequency speed is 2.7GHZ. Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall I am happy that I bought it.

Pros: Good keyboard, nice and spacious. The battery is on average 3-4 hours, which is good. Boot up time is great, Sleep to awake is instant. Keys on the keyboard feel like a macbook almost, but still plastic. The tracpad is pretty good, it can get a bit sensitive, but it works fine. 2 finger scroll is spot on. The laptop does not get hot while gaming, unless it gets really intense, then its just warm. This was a major improvement over my old compaq.

88 fps with max settings on league of Legends
78 fps with tera online.

Cons: The screen is really bad. I knew this coming into buying it, but it really does show colors at odd times as others. The main complaint is the fuzziness of the screen. It doesnt bother me though, I like it.

Other Thoughts: I thought I would hate windows 8. Its not as bad as I thought. I just threw the checkmark for boot to desktop, and I use the tiles for quick acess to netflix.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Johnathan,

It's great to know that you are happy buying the laptop. I certainly understand your concern regarding the screen. Please to upgrade the VGA driver if the driver installed wsa outdated. 4 out of 5 eggsOverall I am happy that I bought it.

Pros: The graphics card/Processor- The Graphics card is really good for the cost, and I was able to League of Legends on Max with 60 fps, or on medium settings at 80 fps. Tera Online ran at 78 fps on medium, and its a pretty intense game.

Keyboard- Nice and spacious. The keys felt rather plastic, but I don't mind, because the key clacking is non existent. The full number pad was a plus too. The big track pad is also amazing.

Shipping- I ordered it wednesday night, got it friday morning. That was impressive.

The speed- My laptop runs league and can alt tab instantly, while running spotify with no lag. Impressive.

Cons: The power Brick design. Seriously, whoever design that thing needs to be fired. It takes up 3 slots on a surge protector with its aweful design. It can become loose, or even fall out of the switch sometimes.

The screen is meh. Its very fuzzy, but its not a bothering thing. It feels rather low end, but for $669 total, what can I complain about?

Ram- Runs fine, but the ability to upgrade in the future is important, and theres only 1 free slot, the other is imbedded.

Other Thoughts: Overall, it is worth the price. Ignore the screen or if possible, swap it out. Would buy again!

A video review can be found on youtube. Its terrible quality though cause Im a loser. Just search for the brand of laptop or my nickname.

3 out of 5 eggsThe touchpad and keyboard is disappointing

Pros: Good screen, Graphics card is plenty powerful. CPU nothing to complain about. 8GB of RAM is plenty even if 4GB of it is stuck to the mainboard.

Cons: Battery life is shoddy, The touchpad is unresponsive and the smart gesture software doesn't help, unlike other ASUS laptops I have had in which the touch-pad was the best thing about the machine. After about 2 weeks the C, 1 ,2, 3 , and Enter keys stopped functioning, In which point I contacted ASUS, they were helpful. I could not be bothered to pay the $20 dollars to send it from Alabama to California. So I am getting a return.

In short:
It would of been a good laptop if it were not for the broken keys (which was a complete dealbreaker) and the shoddy touchpad.

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to like it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I certainly understand your concern regarding the issue with the touchpad. Please allow some time to get use to the multi-touch function of the pad. In order to improve the touchpad responsiveness and stability, please install all recommended WINDOWS Update manually in the Control Panel, Windows Update before using the system. Also, try updating the ASUS Smart Gesture utility and try to configure the touchpad within the application. ASUS provides warranty for the laptop in order to fix or repair any hardware defect. 4 out of 5 eggsGood product, Unlucky though.

Pros: Good features
Price is fantastic for the specs
Decent battery life

Cons: Fuzzy resolution even though rated for 1080p
8 gig memory not expandable

Other Thoughts: Recieved a product with a defective fan, the fan was essentially purring whenever it ran. Very distracting.
Submitted RMA, had to pay for $50 shipping on a 4 day old laptop to get it repaired. That is the biggest disappointment.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you were dissatisfied with some features of the laptop and the fan being defective upon arrival. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is an isolated case. ASUS provides a 90-day warranty coverage for the laptop in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. 5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget laptop

Pros: - Great Price for the specs
- Dedicated Graphics; can play many games on high settings
- Pretty Thin
- Has a numpad and DVD Drive
- Comes with 2 partitioned drives; 1 with the OS and the other is empty.

Cons: - Screen is pretty flimsy
- 1 Combined Speaker/Mic jack
- 5400 RPM HDD

Other Thoughts: Someone mentioned before there is no LED for the Caps Lock and Num Lock key. This is not the case. There are on the bottom left with the Power, Battery, etc. LEDs. I don't like where the power button is; when I try to press the esc, I sometimes press power. I am going to replace the HDD sometime down the road; 5400 is just a bit too slow for me. This laptop is great for me because I play games and go to school. Also dislike the 1 combined jack for the speakers/mic. Had to buy an adapter to use my headset. This is a great budget laptop if you're someone who needs a laptop and also plays games.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Price, discrete video card, 8GB RAM, Intel i5

Cons: Windows 8

Other Thoughts: I really like this laptop. I've managed to re-partition the hard drive to allow for a dual boot of Xubuntu 14.04 x64 next to Windows 8. Now I boot almost all the time to Xubutnu. Very fast for everything I've tried so far including some light duty 3D modeling (FreeCAD).
