4 out of 5 eggsvery satisfied

Pros: *doesn't overheat a lot
*quiet
*plays my steam videos games pretty well (assassins creed, portal, etc, haven't played any mmo's yet though)
*sleek
*audio is pretty decent

Cons: *fingerprint magnet, clean often (not important)
*audio sometimes makes a weird robotic noise (not often)
*graphics are decent but no where near mac pro, hard to get used to at first but now i don't notice
*windows 8.1 (maybe can be changed? i haven't tried yet, frankly im now used to windows 8.1)
*tiny bit of bloatware (can be changed)

Other Thoughts: Great step up from my macbook pro (circa 2007). The graphics are still no where nears macs, i even put them side by side and was tripped up but now i don't notice. Plays games very well with short wait time and the computer gets warm at most, the fan only got going a few times. Fast, reliable and the only real problem is windows 8.1! I definitely recommend this for the majority of gamers out there! :)

5 out of 5 eggsLightning Fast Gaming & Work Laptop

Pros: Sleek, fast, intuitive. not too much bloatware installed. the Nvidia driver is great. I've used it for both gaming and work and it boots up in seconds. expensive but worth the cost. battery life is also solid, lasting for 5 hours as advertised, though only when not gaming and on battery saver mode. otherwise it still lasts 2-4 hours which is great.

Cons: only complaint I have is that the battery, as good as it is, is not always accurately displayed. sometimes when it's plugged in/just been unplugged but at full charge, it says it will run for 10 hours. It does not run for 10 hours...

sometimes when it's on low charge the battery says 20 minutes, and may last 30-40. It's likely no fault of the product itself, but moreso a design flaw in the Windows 8/ general windows software.

Other Thoughts: The style and backlit keyboard on this are absolutely fantastic. i'm about a month or two into using the computer and so far the battery life hasnt diminished, which was an issue i had with my last Asus. The hinges seem okay but we'll see if they last...

anyways, great product. worth the 1,000 i put down for it, easily. Looks radical and has a great feeling keyboard (backlit!!). Thanks NewEgg!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat machine with some flaws

Pros: Keyboard feels pretty good. The metal coating also looks great. The weight is not as heavy as most people think. Overall quality is excellent.

Cons: screen is ok when reading western characters. But when it comes to other languages such as chinese it becomes awful. Asus please change the screen to a better one!

Other Thoughts: Things like tiny subwoofer is just silly. The battery could use some upgrade.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap price for nice Specs. Its fast and pretty light compared to my previous 15.6" asus laptop.

Cons: My 3 biggest issues with this system and what ultimately led to me returning it was that is didn't support windows 7 at all despite the well known dislike of windows 8. There are ways to deal with this but considering its a grand for the system they should support windows 7 still. The second is fact that there was only a single HDD bay. If the description had been better and explained the 1 bay( I checked ASUS site and it didn't say 1 bay either but I noticed later that others said dual HDD support) i would have bought a bigger SSD to use with it. The third which I didn't care enough at that point to try and resolve was that even when it was plugged in with full battery some games like FF14 would only recognize the intel graphics and not the vid card. Not sure if that was a laptop functionality issue or a software issue though

Other Thoughts: If they had listed the description better I probably would have learned to deal with windows 8 and just bought a bigger SSD.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you have to return the laptop due to not being able to support WINDOWS 7. To utilize the Nvidia graphics card, please switch the mode into High-Performance inside the Power4Gear utility program. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140953826 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine But,

Pros: Many
CPU, GPU, # of RAM...

Cons: DISPLAY

Other Thoughts: Display is not IPS as what is stated in ASUS page (http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/G56JK/) and a sticker tab found after open the lid upon receiving and opening the box (saying a 178 degree FHD full HD IPS display) . The display is a TN and HWiNFO32 indicated the display is AUO B156HTN03.6. by AU Optronics.
The display's performance is far from what is stated on this alternative page (http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/Gaming_Products/), saying
“View every detail from any angle in Full HD”. (without mentioning IPS). The acceptable view is not 178 degree, definitely not "any angle". It is about 45 degrees to the left and right, even narrower up and down.

Wondering is ASUS offering resolution regarding this conflicts between their statements on the web pages plus the sticker came with the machine and what is really in the hands of the customers.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value

Pros: Excellent Graphics in game
Really cheap for the components inside
FAST AS ****
Excellent Screen
Operates relatively cool
Excellent appearance
Great light-up keyboard
Tons of storage
More RAM than you'll ever need
Webcam low megapixel, but very nice image

Cons: HEAVY
Not so portable
Preloaded with tons of useless garbage
No SSD (resulting in common max usage of loud hard drive)

Other Thoughts: Replacing the hard drive in this laptop with an SSD is an upgrade that will make this device run like laptops well beyond this price range.
I have no idea how to practically carry this thing. At 6 pounds it's a monster, but it runs better than anything that was made to be portable. If you're buying this, consider investing in a laptop bag or backpack because you'll want to keep it safe.
I think the parameters for running the fan speed should be adjusted. Depending on work load, it will shoot up for no reason because the idle speed is too low (but at that point it's dead silent)
This gets 4 eggs simply for portability issues. If you don't care about that, or you're willing to work around it, then buy this.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing Laptop but one flaw

Pros: -Great specs Cpu/Gpu
-Good looking
-Wonderful sound (laptops usually lack this)
-sub-woofer that comes with is a nice touch
-Plays games at 60 FPS no problem
-Easy access to RAM, HDD, CD drive

Cons: -Cooling: The biggest drawback is cooling. It has one vent and it is an out vent only. So an external cooler is basically useless. You sacrifice cooling for looks with this laptop.

-Short power cord: The part that plugs into the wall was quite short, but I easily replaced it with another from a previous charger.

-HDD: I feel like the HDD being 5400 RPM is just poor taste for all the other great specs in this machine. I replaced mine with a 512GB SSD and put the HDD in a HDD CD drive caddy.

-Can already tell it is going to be a pain to open and there are no instructionals out yet.

Other Thoughts: It may seem like I am hard on it for a 4/5 rating, but the good really out-weighs the bad. The only reason I deduct a point is because of the cooling which may become more an issue with time. Lucky for me I can swap out GPUs and CPUs if needed.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm glad that you are satisfied with the laptop and consider it an amazing product besides your concern with the cooling system of the unit. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140946010 on the subject line.

2 out of 5 eggsG56JK

Pros: Boots fast
Nice Keyboard/red backlit
Fast CPU/GPU/RAM when working (set to use performance or plugged in)
Plays games on medium/high settings (decent quality, don't expect to play ultra quality settings for needy games.)
Light and portable
Beautiful appearance
Good sound
1920x1080 on big screen for movies works nice.

Cons: Track pad (okay, but the left and right click are really stiff)
No scroll on track pad
Battery if set on lowest performance lasts 4-5 hrs however performance takes a huge hit (laptop feels really slow to conserve energy)
Gets extremely hot when playing video games (The laptop will use/overuse lots of power to play decent games and cause overheating.) Turning V-Sync or limiting FPS in games will lower the heat tremendously.
Heat vent on the left side of laptop and there's only one. I've seen better valued laptops with vents on the back which I think is the best place to place them.
Air conductors on the bottom of the laptop. When placed on a flat surface I'm not even sure how it's possible for air to flow in optimally because the laptop is nearly flushed to the surface. Of course I bought a cooler pad with it, but seriously for the price there shouldn't be a need to buy external products to compensate.
When watching movies I kept getting black and white graphics noise/stuttering(entire screen) every few minutes.
Sound seems to be more on the left side. (Small sub included helps a bit in quality, but don't expect much thump.)
Harddrive 5200 RPM. You'll have to buy a SSD and switch it out.

***Display and viewing angles are horrible.

Other Thoughts: I'll be returning and refunding my item for a different product with a better screen. If you plan to spend lots of hours you might as well get something with a better screen to look at that won't bug your eyes.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you were dissatisfied with the display and viewing angle of the laptop. On the contrary, there are lots of very satisfied customers that are having positive experience using the product. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140946480 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, esp w/ SSD

Pros: Got this to replace old dragging ASUS laptop w/ missing keys that I had already re-staged twice. Wanted my 10-year old to play Minecraft and Steam stuff with decent frame rates, my wife for her Grad class papers, and my daughter for SIMS 4. No issues at all, and once I replaced 5400 RPM HDD with a 512Gig SSD it zips like nobody's business.

Cons: There's silver "shortcut" button on upper left of keyboard that I think can be configured to run something else besides cloud storage, but no documentation on how to change this.

Other Thoughts: Why aren't my kids more impressed?
