This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Boots fast
Nice Keyboard/red backlit
Fast CPU/GPU/RAM when working (set to use performance or plugged in)
Plays games on medium/high settings (decent quality, don't expect to play ultra quality settings for needy games.)
Light and portable
Beautiful appearance
Good sound
1920x1080 on big screen for movies works nice.

Cons: Track pad (okay, but the left and right click are really stiff)
No scroll on track pad
Battery if set on lowest performance lasts 4-5 hrs however performance takes a huge hit (laptop feels really slow to conserve energy)
Gets extremely hot when playing video games (The laptop will use/overuse lots of power to play decent games and cause overheating.) Turning V-Sync or limiting FPS in games will lower the heat tremendously.
Heat vent on the left side of laptop and there's only one. I've seen better valued laptops with vents on the back which I think is the best place to place them.
Air conductors on the bottom of the laptop. When placed on a flat surface I'm not even sure how it's possible for air to flow in optimally because the laptop is nearly flushed to the surface. Of course I bought a cooler pad with it, but seriously for the price there shouldn't be a need to buy external products to compensate.
When watching movies I kept getting black and white graphics noise/stuttering(entire screen) every few minutes.
Sound seems to be more on the left side. (Small sub included helps a bit in quality, but don't expect much thump.)
Harddrive 5200 RPM. You'll have to buy a SSD and switch it out.

***Display and viewing angles are horrible.

Other Thoughts: I'll be returning and refunding my item for a different product with a better screen. If you plan to spend lots of hours you might as well get something with a better screen to look at that won't bug your eyes.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, esp w/ SSD

This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Got this to replace old dragging ASUS laptop w/ missing keys that I had already re-staged twice. Wanted my 10-year old to play Minecraft and Steam stuff with decent frame rates, my wife for her Grad class papers, and my daughter for SIMS 4. No issues at all, and once I replaced 5400 RPM HDD with a 512Gig SSD it zips like nobody's business.

Cons: There's silver "shortcut" button on upper left of keyboard that I think can be configured to run something else besides cloud storage, but no documentation on how to change this.

Other Thoughts: Why aren't my kids more impressed?

Pros: This machine will do anything you want it do to and then some. I have done multiple things at one time and it does not even skip a beat. The graphics are great on it. Very good value for the money.

Cons: Battery life short however it is expected for what is going in the computer.
When first booting the computer up the keyboard does not light up and kind hard to put in your password for the first time.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Runs great. Fast, solid gaming powerhouse for the price. I also use if for graphic design work. Runs relatively cool even when gaming; my GPU hasn't gone over 75 C yet. Nice design, feels solid and looks good. Lots of bang for the buck.

Cons: Nothing serious. Wi-fi doesn't seem to recognize 5GHz wi-fi networks. Screen is fine, but viewing angle is narrow. A bit too heavy for easy portability, if that's your thing.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with this laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine for the Price

This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: This machine has a ton of pros that normally cannot be bought for such a low price. Great Specs, Great cooling, Best Keyboard I have used on a laptop (backlighting is pretty cool too). The smallish size of the laptop is amazing considering what they packed in it. Battery is also great for the specs.

Cons: A little big for portability, but really not that bad. Battery isn't that of a newer macbook (but who cares when you have specs likes this). I also wish the machine could do all my thinking and work for me without me asking, but you can't have it all!

Other Thoughts: I do not use this machine for gaming (although i might start because of how awesome the machine is), but I am a programmer and phd researcher. This machine handles the tasking graph theory algorithms I am throwing at it perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat computer

This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: I love this computer, I have only had it a couple weeks now and it is great. I have played Just Cause 2, Black ops 1, Minecraft, and Space Engineers. I can play them all at 60 fps or more, with max settings. It runs pretty cool, it can get a little warm when you are playing harder games, but for the most part it runs really cool. The only downside I have found, and it isn't really much of a downside, but you have to have it plugged in for it to use the gtx 850m. Other wise it just uses integrated graphics. The keyboard feels great and the back lite keyboard looks so awesome. It is really light too, it doesn't weigh you down at all. The other thing is it is an Asus, I have been very happy with every Asus product I have owned, and this isn't any different. I love it.

Cons: The only thing so far is like I said in the pros, it can get a little warm when you are playing hard games, also the battery isn't real great, but it isn't real bad. When I was downloading it lasted about 5-6 hours, I was just downloading, nothing else. The harddrive is a 5400 rpm 1TB, it is a little slow, but you can upgrade it, and also with the performance of the computer you don't notice it to much.

Other Thoughts: If you are thinking about getting this but worried about the performance for games just get it, the size is great, performance is awesome, and the price is just amazing. I hope you enjoy it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressive computer for the price

This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Lightweight
Powerful
Sturdy

Cons: Windows 8
Some text appears blurry

Other Thoughts: This is a really impressive computer. It looks great and it has great specs. The i7 and GTX 850m make for pretty seamless gaming and web surfing. I've played on High settings for most games and gotten at least 50fps on average. It feels nice and light and the design looks really great, but it is a little bit of a fingerprint magnet. I also would have liked an SSD, because the total storage of this computer is only about 875 gb.

On the negative side, I've gotten a couple glitches here and there (mostly while playing a single certain game, so it's probably just specific to that game for some reason) and Windows 8.1 really isn't that great. My advice would be to download "Start is Back," which is a program that gets rid of the start screen you typically get with Windows 8 and boots you right to your desktop like Windows 7 would, and it allows you to manually access the start screen if you need to.

Otherwise, this laptop is great. I've only ever encountered problems while playing one game, and honestly it's not that big of a deal. For this price, you could get wayy worse. I'd really recommend this laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Balance

This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: >Powerful CPU
>Very Good GPU
>Very Good Screen (if you like Matte finish)
>Great Keyboard, that is also backlit
>Very Trackpad (retains left and right clicks unlike some other W8 models)
>Decent weight and thickness
>Good cooling

Cons: >Wish it were thinner and lighter
>Prefer blue/white for keyboard backlight
>Plain design

Other Thoughts: After a ton of research and a returned Envy 14T (also with GTX850), this was the right laptop for me. If your budget is $1K and you want a 15.6" gaming laptop, it came down to this or the Lenovo Y50 for me.

The difference between these two is the Asus has the better screen, the Lenovo has the better GPU. For the games I play (Diablo 3, TF2, L4D, etc.) the GTX850M is all that I really need for 1080P play.

The keyboard is a fantastic and swapping the HDD for an SSD is a cinch (and a must).

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent laptop

This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great speed, lots of space, runs every game I wanted to so far [Diablo iii...lol I know] and windows 8.1 really actually runs well... came from a windows 7. No transition issues here. And I like the look of it. When keyboard lights up red, it leaves a smile on my face haha

Cons: Like most gaming laptops, can get hot through side vents. But not a deal breaker. Can think of much else yet. Maybe might do an update review after playing with it some more.

5 out of 5 eggsvery good laptop

This review is from: ASUS ROG G56JK-EB72 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 2GB GDDR3 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: This laptop is great I use it mostly for gaming but also for school work and it works fantastic slim easy to carry design and an amazing amount of power for the size and the price.

Cons: no cons except for windows 8 is a pain so i got a windows 7 shell so thats fixed, also the track pad is a good track pad but im still hate them probably because I game. But again can be fixed by getting a mouse.
