4 out of 5 eggsGreat work/school laptop. Couple bugs.

Pros: * It's going to impress people when they realize the back cover is a screen as well.

* Packaging and accessories included were impressive. I've found myself liking the included laptop sleeve very much.

* Quality and durability of the material seem great. I've used this laptop for about 9 months properly stored in my backpack on my daily commutes without any issues.

* It feels really light.

* There isn't too much crapware installed onto the laptop and I found no real challenge to uninstalling most of them.

* The touch screen is palm resistant.

Cons: * The screen changing software doesn't work well with windows 8.1 and probably wont with windows 10 as well. This has lead to awkward occasions when I want to change from laptop mode to tablet mode by closing the screen only to not have the screens change. There are also times where I wake up the laptop in laptop mode only to have the screen change to tablet mode. All these issues are solved most of the time by hitting the sleep switch and rewakeing it up and in rare occasions, I have to restart to fix the glitch.

* The touchscreen isn't perfect. When it works, it's awesome, but there are rare moments where it stops working after having switched screens. Again the fix for that is hitting the sleep switch and rewaking it up.

* Performance wise, it feels a little weak. Perhaps it's being throttle? I haven't tested to see if that's the case.

* CPU and Memory seem to hit high usage % very easily even when there are hardly any programs running or when it's ideling.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I still like the laptop. Currently the most common programs I run on it are Chrome, Android Studio, SumatraPDF, and a few different IDE's and these work fine when running simultaniously. I like the appearance of it, it feels nice, and it works for my needs. I found the two screens a bit gimmicky after a while, it's still useful and ideal in some occasions, but it seems a tablet with the power of laptop, such as the Surface Pro, would be a more ideal design for a multipurpose laptop.

However, due to the under performance of the laptop, I'll consider something beefier, yet small like this one for my next laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat computer, some inconvenient cons

Pros: Very quiet computer and quite powerful for it's size. Runs very cool and extremely fast boot time. the dual screen is a bonus and helps with group projects so we're not all crowding around me.

Very solid build and doesn't have the cheap plastic feel som laptops have.

The tablet form is really nice for reading in your bed. The camera and speakers are of decent quality and I can hear it across the house,

Cons: It took some getting used to not having a disk drive and at times annoying to have to go to a third party computer to transfer files to a flash drive. The micro-HDMI is a hassle b/c had to get a micro hdmi to hdmi adaptor.

The touchpad is a bit touchy and on several occasions keeps accidentally opening up the win8 sidebar when I'm just scrolling.

The most glaring flaw, quite literally, is the inability to turn off the asus logo on the touchscreen off while the computer is active. Watching movies on the touchscreen in a dark room is impossible b/c u have that bright white logo shining in your face (I've sort of fixed it with electrical tape, but seriously).

Other Thoughts: I sort of get the windows 8 in tablet form, but it's can get quite annoying in laptop form when you're switching from window to window.

I had to replace to screens (I dropped it), the replacement was a pain b/c had to remove almost all the components including the mobo just to replace the screen. So upgrading seems quite daunting.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Alexander,

I'm glad that you like the quiet operation, the powerful performance for its size and other features available on the laptop. I certainly understand your concern regarding the transferring files to a flash drive. In regards to the Micro-HDMI port, you can actually purchase a Micro-HDMI to a HDMI video cable without needing a video adapter. About the touchy touchpad, please allow some time to get use to its multi-touch features or function if this is your first experience with Smart Touchpad. Also, try updating the ASUS Smart Gesture utility and try to configure the touchpad within the application. . Should you need further technical assistance with the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150738753 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

2 out of 5 eggseverything went well until....

Pros: Light and "functioned" well

Cons: It suddenly went crazy. The defaulted recovery is not working at all. I can't even get through original setting.............................

Other Thoughts: Own the product for ~7 month............... The shortest lifespan of laptops that I have ever owned...........................

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Wei-Sheng,

I'm glad that the laptop functioned well and you like its light weight. I apologize if the unit started having issues after 7 months of usage. ASUS provides warranty coverage for the laptop. If PC Refresh or factory reset will not work and you need further assistance sending it in for service, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150664508 on the subject line.

1 out of 5 eggsWould not buy Asus again

Pros: Cheap when I got it on sale.

Cons: * Unreliable - DIED when less than 4 months old. Asus will not offer a refund or advance replacement and since I need this daily for my work, I am now forced to buy a new laptop even though I'll eventually get this one back from repair.
* Slow and sluggish. Pauses frequently. Shockingly slow IO especially for an SSD. Slower than a regular HD.
* Active digitizer is not accurate.
* Poor battery life. Around 3-4 hours just surfing and emailing.
* Hardware sensors not well integrated with Windows 8.1. Opening and closing the lid does not reliably switch screens. Rotation is often not recognized.

Other Thoughts: My feeling is that the second screen is dumb. Most convertibles have a screen that flips or folds backwards which is the way to go. Why have the expense, complexity and thickness of an additional screen which you would never use them together? Only the outside screen is touch.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Roserez,

I'm sorry if the laptop stop working prematurely in less than 4 months. ASUS products are build you last, this is an isolated case. The sluggish system performance can usually be resolve by making sure all recommended WINDOWS update were installed completely. In order to improve battery life, do a periodid battery calibration and disable onboard devices and applications not being used in the Startup menu. In regards to the switch screen issue, please verify if the unit is running with the most current BIOS version and the Nvidia driver was updated. If you need further technical assistance with the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150430174 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little laptop/tablet

Pros: Lightweight, Stylish, Speedy, Quiet, Fun to Use.
To me this is truly a nice little laptop. For the price I'd say it's unbeatable. I wouldn't say it has the power for gaming, but as a laptop for browsing/work/etc. it really does the job well and easily.

Cons: Only complaint would be battery life is short-ish. It's not terrible in my opinion, probably 4-5 hours of use, which is good for me.
Kind of big for tablet use (the 11" would be better for that), but I just use it as a laptop and so it doesn't bother me.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Its half the weight of my laptop but a little more that my old tablet. So far I have been able to run all my programs on it including office 2007. I like the USB3.0. I can use a 4 port USB hub with 2 thumb drives, my LAN connection, and the wireless mouse. when needed a USB optical drive.

Cons: No real down side yet other than it took all day to get updated to windows 8.1 and the LAN speed is 100 while the wireless gets a solid 144

1 out of 5 eggsGood concept, bad quality, worst ASUS customer service

Pros: Good concept of two screens, that's all I can say of the good side

Cons: The switching between two screens are horrible and have the mind of its own, sometimes it doesn't rotate either of the screens properly. I have to reboot almost everyday to make the screen switching work. After 2 months the outside touchscreen started developing flashing and flickering stripes across, then turned into complete garble. Sent back to ASUS for warranty but no replacement parts (the whole screen unit) are available after 2.5 weeks of the laptop in the repair center, without any prospective availability of parts. Called their call center 5 times and each time they just said they have filed a request to service department to check the status and no answers are given to any of the requests or nothing heard since. How come you do not have spare parts for your product? Really disappointed and will ask for refund! I do not want this piece of junk and hope you do not buy this junk product from a company who has no spare parts for their products!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We do value our customers and take customer service very seriously. If you still didn't receive your unit back from warranty service and need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150366141 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsWife loves it

Pros: Lightweight, Reasonably speedy for normal stuff (browsing, playing videos, email), expandable storage

Cons: Small amount of disk space

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my wife and she loves it. She goes from laptop to tablet mode all the time, and she says the more she uses it the more she likes it.

It does ok with very light games (zuma, slots, etc), but don't expect it to play games that are going to be much graphically intensive. Card games it seems to do ok with, but I would rule out anything 3D.

Runs Office just fine, stays connected to the network well, and the charge seems to last for awhile. Overall a good purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsOverall Great

Pros: It's both a tablet and a laptop. It's a really cool idea and it is working great. It is about as fast as I was expecting it to be. It's not fast enough to game on but if you're going to use in in class to take notes or give a presentation it is perfect.

Cons: It isn't the computer itself the but default app for note taking makes my handwriting look worse than it already is.

Other Thoughts: I am afraid that I will drop it and break the top screen. I'm not going to test how strong it is haha. everything seems to be working great if you update windows and all of your drivers.
