1 out of 5 eggsWould not buy Asus again

Pros: Cheap when I got it on sale.

Cons: * Unreliable - DIED when less than 4 months old. Asus will not offer a refund or advance replacement and since I need this daily for my work, I am now forced to buy a new laptop even though I'll eventually get this one back from repair.
* Slow and sluggish. Pauses frequently. Shockingly slow IO especially for an SSD. Slower than a regular HD.
* Active digitizer is not accurate.
* Poor battery life. Around 3-4 hours just surfing and emailing.
* Hardware sensors not well integrated with Windows 8.1. Opening and closing the lid does not reliably switch screens. Rotation is often not recognized.

Other Thoughts: My feeling is that the second screen is dumb. Most convertibles have a screen that flips or folds backwards which is the way to go. Why have the expense, complexity and thickness of an additional screen which you would never use them together? Only the outside screen is touch.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Roserez,

I'm sorry if the laptop stop working prematurely in less than 4 months. ASUS products are build you last, this is an isolated case. The sluggish system performance can usually be resolve by making sure all recommended WINDOWS update were installed completely. In order to improve battery life, do a periodid battery calibration and disable onboard devices and applications not being used in the Startup menu. In regards to the switch screen issue, please verify if the unit is running with the most current BIOS version and the Nvidia driver was updated. If you need further technical assistance with the laptop, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150430174 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little laptop/tablet

Pros: Lightweight, Stylish, Speedy, Quiet, Fun to Use.
To me this is truly a nice little laptop. For the price I'd say it's unbeatable. I wouldn't say it has the power for gaming, but as a laptop for browsing/work/etc. it really does the job well and easily.

Cons: Only complaint would be battery life is short-ish. It's not terrible in my opinion, probably 4-5 hours of use, which is good for me.
Kind of big for tablet use (the 11" would be better for that), but I just use it as a laptop and so it doesn't bother me.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Its half the weight of my laptop but a little more that my old tablet. So far I have been able to run all my programs on it including office 2007. I like the USB3.0. I can use a 4 port USB hub with 2 thumb drives, my LAN connection, and the wireless mouse. when needed a USB optical drive.

Cons: No real down side yet other than it took all day to get updated to windows 8.1 and the LAN speed is 100 while the wireless gets a solid 144

1 out of 5 eggsGood concept, bad quality, worst ASUS customer service

Pros: Good concept of two screens, that's all I can say of the good side

Cons: The switching between two screens are horrible and have the mind of its own, sometimes it doesn't rotate either of the screens properly. I have to reboot almost everyday to make the screen switching work. After 2 months the outside touchscreen started developing flashing and flickering stripes across, then turned into complete garble. Sent back to ASUS for warranty but no replacement parts (the whole screen unit) are available after 2.5 weeks of the laptop in the repair center, without any prospective availability of parts. Called their call center 5 times and each time they just said they have filed a request to service department to check the status and no answers are given to any of the requests or nothing heard since. How come you do not have spare parts for your product? Really disappointed and will ask for refund! I do not want this piece of junk and hope you do not buy this junk product from a company who has no spare parts for their products!

5 out of 5 eggsWife loves it

Pros: Lightweight, Reasonably speedy for normal stuff (browsing, playing videos, email), expandable storage

Cons: Small amount of disk space

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my wife and she loves it. She goes from laptop to tablet mode all the time, and she says the more she uses it the more she likes it.

It does ok with very light games (zuma, slots, etc), but don't expect it to play games that are going to be much graphically intensive. Card games it seems to do ok with, but I would rule out anything 3D.

Runs Office just fine, stays connected to the network well, and the charge seems to last for awhile. Overall a good purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsOverall Great

Pros: It's both a tablet and a laptop. It's a really cool idea and it is working great. It is about as fast as I was expecting it to be. It's not fast enough to game on but if you're going to use in in class to take notes or give a presentation it is perfect.

Cons: It isn't the computer itself the but default app for note taking makes my handwriting look worse than it already is.

Other Thoughts: I am afraid that I will drop it and break the top screen. I'm not going to test how strong it is haha. everything seems to be working great if you update windows and all of your drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsLOVE MY TAICHI

Pros: I am the CTO of a small computer networking firm. I have had hundreds of laptops come across my lap, and I must say, this is by far the best one i have owned. Having the ability to run both screens so that I can show a client how to operate their system while i work on mine is TREMENDOUS. the switching between tablet and laptop mode is quite smooth. I know that other people on here have described some patches that need to be updated, this was not the case with mine. I did a clean load of windows 8.1 the day that I received my new laptop, no issues whatsoever, even the latest BIOS was already installed. This little thing is so freakin awesome, and I am pretty spoiled with most of my systems. I have at least 24GB of RAM in all of my machines except this laptop, which i don't need. It performs admirably in all facets regardless of the lack of RAM. the solid state drive and Core i5 more than make up for the lack of physical RAM.

I suppose if you only have one machine and you want to play games or render things for photo or for video, you might want to get something with a Core i7 and 16GB of RAM, but for everything i do with this bad boy, its PERFECT!

Cons: I can think of none, except i would like more RAM.

1 out of 5 eggsLemon update

Pros: Just about everything......when it worked.

Cons: Over heat shut off.

Other Thoughts: Returned and tested by Newegg and they determined the machine was defective. Getting a full refund. Newegg has it right, professional. I hope ASUS uses this information to fix the machine, correct the problem, for when it worked, it was an amazing machine.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. 1 out of 5 eggsLemon

Pros: Everything about it was great, until...

Cons: Had a mind of it's own. Over heat and shut down.

Other Thoughts: I hope it's just a fluke that this machine is a lemon. The first week or so I couldn't wait to show the machine to everyone. After a week or so the machine shut down on it's own. The screen would go blank. The fan would burst on very loud. After about 30 seconds of blank screen, loud fan, it would turn completely off and couldn't turn on again for a half hour or so, only to do it again. After a few emails, it was agreed it could be a heat problem. It just arrived at Newegg as a RMA package of which the cost of shipping was on me. When I get the machine back or get a full refund, I will return here and Re-Review. I absolutely recommend this machine....when it works.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Concept but still need fix Windows 8.1 issues

Pros: Great concept of hybrid.
I am a developer, so I like that I can use it as a laptop when I need to work and use it as a tablet when I need it.

Cons: After upgrading to Windows 8.1 it will not seamlessly switch between screens, you will have to press TaiChi button to make the switch (even though that option is enabled). Even with using older driver. Or updated graphics driver + bios.

Also, you can't make any backup DVDs until you upgrade to Windows 8.1 because Asus' own BackTracker is not compatible with Windows 8 !! So you have to use 3rd party tools to create recovery image.

It's mentioned no where but it has only 60 gig usable space out of 128 gig total (it includes recovery drive + os installation), which seems like very less.

The machine I got have what appears to be fiber threads underneath the outside screen, right below ASUS logo. But I have not sent my unit for replacement.

Other Thoughts: I must say to me it is really great option for me compared to flipping or sliding or swinging mechanism because it feels more sturdy .... only if it works with Windows 8.1
