5 out of 5 eggsAwesome screen, formidable power

Pros: -Screen is phenomenally bright and no angular color changes based on position when viewing (IPS screen)
-Graphics Card runs newest games full-tilt even hooked to my 55" TV
-1-year accident protection included
-Num pad
-The processor screams; and with the SSD in there you're up and running anything very, very quickly

Cons: -Only complaint, if I had to complain about something, would be that the finish on the case gets dirty very easily as far as oil from your hands or dust. Aside from that, I love the look of the finish on it

Other Thoughts: I use this for gaming and GPU-based 3d rendering for my freelance clients. I'm used to a big machine and thought I could never get the power I needed to do some of my work on the go. I went with this to see if it could handle my 3d workload and rendering and it has yet to disappoint me after 6+ months of usage.

2 out of 5 eggsGood for maybe a year

Pros: -Powerful: Runs most of the latest games on maximum settings!
-Great amount of storage; easy to manage
-Tremendous software and driver support on ASUS website

Cons: -Terrible QA: After a month of having the laptop, the screen developed a solid black vertical line of pixels running down close to the left edge. Wiggling the lid could often make it go away. This wasn't a HUGE issue as I could work around it by wiggling the screen, and my at-home use involved a bigger, external monitor. Fast forward three months, and the line became permanent. Six months later and the CPU fan developed a noisy buzz that culminated into a rapidly worsening gaming temperature issue. I am currently in the DREADFUL process of dealing with the run-around at ASUS customer support in trying to get this thing returned on warranty. I bought it during the last week of February last year, so I'm still within my year warranty. Not sure why they're giving me a hard time.

Other Thoughts: -I have noticed a trend of awful QC out of ASUS products (both desktop components and in their gaming laptops) since the G75 laptops came out. From faulty power cables and weak batteries to DOA rigs, ASUS's quality has sharply declined over the past five years. I would not recommend any of their laptops to serious, often-traveling gamers who want something that'll last, because you won't get it from ASUS, right now. That's really a shame, because without these problems, the laptops perform at well worth the cost.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: I upgraded it to Win 8.1 Pro, no issues running anything (as noted, update all of your drivers.)

It spends the vast majority of it's time running OpenSuSE 13.2 64bit (primary boot, dual boots Win8.1Pro,) running virtual machines, & other apps. Steam did install gracefully, haven't found any issues with it (not a serious gamer.) nVidia drivers work well.

Cons: Minor driver issues under OpenSuSE 13.2 64bit: some of the keyboard functional controls don't seem to work, like display brightness & keyboard lighting. Not a big deal for me, I have found workarounds.

Other Thoughts: It's an expensive laptop, but seems to be working at least reasonably well.

2 out of 5 eggsIncredible Laptop with MAJOR flaws

Pros: 1. Fast

2. Did I remember to say it's Fast... Amazing video benchmarks and game-play. The 980M is an amazing mobile video card. Laptop can actually keep up with their desktop cousins now. Cool!

3. Sturdy design and just plain cool to showoff. Looks like a stealth fighter.

4. Beautiful IPS display...when it works like it is supposed to (refer to Cons)

5. Fully loaded. More like a desktop than a laptop, and that is a good thing.

6. Impressive stats. Massive memory, good drive space, and fine keyboard with a number pad.

7. A blue-ray drive... great for watching movies on that amazing screen.

8. Fun

Cons: 1. The IPS screen is amazing...but mine had Image Retention in the upper left hand corner. Not the normal Image Retention seen with IPS, but IMAGE RETENTION! I could see the imprint of what I had just done whenever my screen went to blacks or greys. Not acceptable with a $3000 + computer.

2. The USB ports are VERY flaky. Sometime what I connected to the USB worked, sometimes it did not. The USB ports also had difficulty processing read/write requests from my external hard drive.

3. The speaker system does not work properly. You either get the two rear speakers, or the sub... never working together. No matter the amount of tinkering, you end up with one or the other. This is a known MAJOR issue with this laptop, and ASUS refuses to acknowledge it or fix it. Users on the ASUS forums have been looking for a fix with no success.

4. The battery is not removable...Yep, when your battery goes dead, you have to send it in to a repair center to get the battery replaced. Don't even think about opening the laptop up to fix this issue yourself, you will be met with confusion and a void warranty.

5. ASUS RMA/Repair is appallingly bad. Although ASUS did respond to my request for an RMA VERY quickly, I backed out. Why? Because the posters on the ASUS forums warned me to NEVER send my laptop in for service through ASUS. The were multiple horror stories of laptops returned with WORSE issues and damage than before they was sent in (to include pictures of before and after service damage). When I pay over $3000 dollars for a laptop, I expect the best service around. ASUS falls woefully short in this area. I choose to use Newegg's generous return/refund policy instead.

6. No G-Sync (like inferred would be included in an BIOS update). ASUS inferred G-Sync would be enabled for this laptop. Now ASUS says they backed off, saying they are not sure they will enable G-Sync. Not cool guys, not cool. So you pretty much don't get G-Sync unless you use modded drivers or BIOS.

7. More heartache then it is worth. Just not worth spending over $3000 for all of the heartache you get with this beauty. Sad, as it is still quite an amazing laptop in many ways.

Other Thoughts: I am getting my money back, thanks to Newegg. I plan on buying an MSI Titan GT80 SLI. Less problems and more horsepower, how could it go wrong? Steer clear of the G751 until ASUS addresses the laptop's issues and their internal company repair policies.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for the positive comment you have provided to the laptop. I apologize if you had some issues with the screen, USB and speaker system and the battery. These are isolated cases that can easily be resolved. Should you need further assistance or troubleshooting tips resolving these issues, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150626460 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus G751JY-DH72X Review

Pros: This laptop is for lack of a better word a BEAST, I've had many rigs in the last 2 years this was the only one that i was happy with its an insane beast for multitasking and gaming alike.
*32G RAM is amazing for multitasking no matter what you do RAM will never be a bottleneck
*the processor is top notch great preference
*Quiet fans even when gaming!!!! this is huge for me! I bought the MSI Dominator Pro before this laptop and returned it because it sounded like a jet.
*Impressive graphics runs any game I though at it typically run more than one game at once and keeps up nicely.

Cons: The single thing I do not like about this laptop is if your going to carry it you will open the DVD Drive no matter how you hold the side other than that none at all!

Other Thoughts: Benchmarks from 3DMarks as follows
Fire Strike 1.1 Score 8560 Better than 83% of all results
Sky Diver 1.0 Score 23021
Cloud Gate 1.1 Score 22195
Ice Storm 1.2 Score 134418

Benchmarks speak for themselves better than 83% of ALL RESULTS that means of all the PC's Laptop and Desktop this laptop is better than 83% of them witch is insane for a laptop. Just make sure you run a driver update when you get it out of the box and dont use the wifi drivers form the asus website use intels drivers asus's cause problems UPDATE THE NVIDIA DRIVERS ASAP. As face as I'm concerned there is no equal to this gaming laptop right now MSI is junk there designs are problematic asus makes a solid laptop. Once windows 10 hits I will like this laptop more the only thing that holds me back is windows 8 xD

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Amazing performance ran IBT didn't even go over 72C 32G of RAM is insane I love it I'm able to multitask to my hearts content and trust me I'm multi tasking its brains out! I've owned an Asus g75vw before this is like that on STEROIDS the design is perfect huge fans make this laptop quiet have yet to hear these fans full blast!

Cons: MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE ALL DRIVERS RIGHT OUT OF BOX! Download the nividia drivers from nvidias site the rest and bios get off Asus site but trust me when I say this laptops not stable tell nvidia is updated oh and Drives are split into odd partitions but that's all easy to fix

5 out of 5 eggsTop 3, best bang for your buck gaming laptop

Pros: 1. Fast: The SSD performance is great and the 32GB of RAM ensure that, even when my browsers decide to hog RAM, I still have plenty of it left for everything else.

2. Quiet: I barely hear the fans at all compared to my last gaming laptop whose fans sounded as if it was about to lift off into space.

3. Cool temperature. For all the power it packs, it's extremely cool to the touch.

4. Dollar for dollar, spec for spec, it's one of the best bang for your buck gaming laptops. It even includes one year of accidental damage protection (only 1 time and you have to register it with ASUS) but that's on top of the warranty and at no additional cost.

5. I've tried all of my games on their "max" settings and was able to play them without issues. I either need new games or this computer (with its 980M video card) are just able to take it.

Cons: 1. Speakers don't sound great but they're functional

2. Windows 8 is not ideal but that's not Asus' fault. Hey, at least Windows 10 is a free upgrade. In the meantime, I'm using classic shell to bear Windows 8.

3. The lit keyboard is only red. Would be nice to be able to control the keyboard LED colors but that's more of a nice to have. I'm fine with the red if it helped keep the cost down.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's a Movie Studio - A Teacher/ Freelancer's Take

Pros: Powerful. Fast. Great Screen. I don't know how much video game playing this particular laptop will ever see. I'm using it for my freelance animation/editing company and I also teach advanced 3D animation to undergrads.
This replaces my 5 year old Asus ROG laptop that was truly a work-horse for my animation, graphics, and editing projects. The old one only had 8 gigs of ram, a 1st gen i7, and a Geforce 460M. Ahead of its time, it just needed to be put to pasture. I have created countless projects on it, and it really held up nicely considering what I put it through. So I trust Asus when it comes to laptops (ROG models, anyway) I had my eye on this one and was considering holding off for a few months to see if prices would drop when the 5th gen i7 came out. One of my clients asked if I could start editing 4K commercials... I just went ahead and bought this to ensure I could.
This new machine is certainly an investment that I will be able to recoup the cost in projects. The graphics card alone is worth bragging rights. I recently bought a 6 gig Geforce 780 for my home workstation and it cost me nearly $700. This LAPTOP has a 4 Gig 980 for crying out loud. So editing in real time is smooth sailing, as is 3D animation. I use Maya 2015.
Fast load on Adobe CC programs. (about 13 seconds or less) I'm using the 2nd half of the 512 SSD for cache only for editing.
I love the matte screen, the old laptop was glossy. Such an improvement.

Cons: Still not convinced with Windows 8.1. It'll either take some getting used to, or will have to be replaced.
**My biggest concern is the power plug. The main connection seems a bit loose for a brand new piece of hardware. I'll be extra careful not to pull or let the cord wobble around on its own to keep it alive as long as possible.

Other Thoughts: I've only had it for a few days, really, but so far I've begun one edit project and the laptop says cool and quiet. I also played a Netflix movie and thought the speakers were really decent, considering it's just a laptop. New computers always have such quick response. We'll see how it keeps up over time.
I'm just trying to "deal" with Windows 8 right now, but have no plans to upgrade to Windows 10. Software companies always seem to take months before comparability catches up to a new OS. And it's never a good idea to upgrade in the middle of a project.
But so far, great machine!

5 out of 5 eggsHappy with purchase!

Pros: Very fast boot up, 20 seconds as another reviewer mentioned. Plenty of space. Keeps cool and the sound and display is an improvement compared to other ASUS models. Has everything I want and need. Can burn a DVD, generate a new DVD image file in another program, run another program at the same time to edit video files and play WOW at the same time without any issues. Color me impressed.

Cons: Not a fan of red too much and echoing another review, red isn't bright enough to see when it comes to the backlit keyboard.

Also, the AC Adapter plug on the laptop end slips out very easily. It's functional when I sit still but when I set my laptop try down then pick up, I have to make sure the plug doesn't slip out onto the floor.

Other Thoughts: I guess I lucked out in that there are no other defects with my shipment other than the AC adapter plug.

2 out of 5 eggsSlipped Asus QA

Pros: Amazing laptop when it works. I got a defective laptop unfortunately and had to RMA it. the parents purchased it from this site and got it for Christmas.
My case is probably very isolated however please understand the 2 eggs I gave this laptop is because it is defective and Asus refused to pay shipping to repair a 10-15 day old laptop. I will tell you now, this laptop regardless of why I rated it a 2 is an awesome machine, it will run Crysis 3 on maximum graphics.... You do not see that in many laptops. When this laptop did work it was amazing, it loads fast and can take any task you throw at it. My problem is that they sent this product out and it was defective and they wanted me to pay even more to get it to them.

Cons: This laptop is an amazing gaming laptop do not get me wrong, however It is my responsibility to share the problems I have had with this laptop. The laptop came defective, I updated every driver and closed the lid after 8-9 hours of use and the icons on the home screen were burned into the screen, the hue of the screen was turned green, and when I restarted the laptop the icons from the home screen would appear during boot, I was able to fix this by completely powering the laptop down, and leaving it sit for half an hour. I powered it up and had to wipe all the data I put on it and put it in recovery mode. This was very troubling as I spent hours getting half a terabyte worth of games on it. After I downloaded everything again I fully updated the system, BIOS, Windows updates. every driver was updated on this laptop, and another issue came up. The system became incredibly unstable and would have to be restarted to get the mouse pad/ usb mouse to function properly as nothing was able to be clicked. In 1/4 boot ups I was not able to access the desktop screen which made this laptop almost unusable . This laptop if it works properly will run any game hands down I was able to get it to run crysis 3 and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare on ultra, however mass effect 3 was unplayable due to the instability of the system . I called Asus up and they told me to RMA it to them because it was defective, I chose to send it back here. Asus was unwilling to pay for shipping to look at the laptop and repair it and even then they have a no retail replacement policy. The laptop was less than 30 days old. I was told it was under warranty by ASUS and they told me they will service and repair it. yet I would have had to pay $40 to ship it to them, I love Asus products but CS and RMA's are a joke with them, they expect you to pay for shipping of a product that should have never been shipped the way it is. I do not enjoy blasting a company but, when a customer spends money and gets a defective product and is expected to pay more money to cover shipping it is not okay especially when the product is in the upper 2k range.

Other Thoughts: I applaud Newegg, They told me that they will pay for the shipping, they will send me a new unopened replacement. I would recommend this site to anyone, if you get this laptop and it does not work newegg had your back, I have had problems with products in the past and they have always helped me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

it's great to know if you were amazed by the system performance of the laptop. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We do value our customers and stand behind our products. Unfortunately, the specific product only qualifies for a free 1-way shipping after service. Replacement is normally handled by our reseller like, NewEgg, provided the unit is still within the replacement period. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150123234 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.
