Question 1

So my biggest concern with this laptop, as well as any gaming laptop, is the cooling. How does this laptop fare in that regard?

I had the same concern.  I do not have any metrics on hand but it has not gotten unreasonably hot when playing BF4.  When gaming, I would not recommend playing with this machine directly on your lap but it certainly runs cooler than some of it's competitors like the MSI GS60.

What I will say is the fan is pretty loud and will come on even when you are not doing anything too strenuous.  All in all, this is a good computer.

Question 2

What are the differences between this version and the CF4 version?

It seems to me that the only differences are the processor, the physical dimensions, and anti-glare on the CF3.  I'm sure both are great products, I am extremely happy with my CF3.

Question 3

Can u easily disable the 128gb msata and the 1tb internal drive and boot straight from the swappable drive?

goal is to have a completely isolated environment that hasn't touched my gaming environment. so i am guessing i can insert a simple hard drive into the swappable drive slot and boot into an environment that is completely separate. correct?

This is correct. I inserted a 512 SSD into the swappable. Bios recognizes it as a new hard drive and allows you to set the boot order so that the swappable is priority 1. I boot purely from my swappable every time and haven't felt any latency issues.

The only issue I encountered was when I attempted to generate an ISO to the msata, then switched out the disk drive for my harddrive. The swappable was unable to copy or read the ISO, and I didn't investigate the issue for very long.

Make sure to download the drivers onto the swappable. The easiest way is to get the gigabyte driver manager, then use it to get the proper versions.

Question 4

What is the battery life like on this laptop? I'm looking for a slim gaming laptop with atleast 3-4+ hours of battery life when not gaming.

Anandtech (can't post a link, should be easy to Google) has great reviews (no, I'm not affiliated with them), they're due to have one for this laptop in the coming month: I'd look out for that for a comprehensive answer.

That being said, in my experience it reaches 3 hours easily; not sure about 4 (I have never timed it).

Question 5

I see usb ports, HDMI, Audio headphone jacks, etc. on the pictures of the laptop, but they are not mentioned in the specifications tab.  So I wanted to make sure that they are part of the laptop.  Also since it is Windows 8.1 64-bit is it eligible for the Windows 10 update for free?

Hi Leilani,

The laptop comes with 2 usb 2.0 ports, 2 usb 3.0 ports, audio and headphone jacks, an hdmi port, a mini display port, a vga port, and an sd card reader, a lan port, and a locking port to physically lock the laptop (not really sure how that works).

In regards to the windows 8.1 to 10 question, I'm not entirely sure how Microsoft is handling the upgrade process. I haven't been given the option to upgrade to 10 on the laptop yet, and I don't really know when it'll be coming.

Hi there.  To be clear, the 128 SSD and 1T HHD are both internally mounted, yes?  That is, the hot-swappable BD writer allows for another SSD if you wanted it, but you're still sitting pretty regardless, if I understand it.  Very cool feature.

This is correct. So I took out a 512 from my old computer and stuck it in the swappable bay and stuck it right in. I was able to boot straight from my old OS after editing the BIOS. So now I'm at 512+128 SSD storage across two devices, plus 1TB of HDD. However, I can't run dvd's, but if I need to I can just take out my 512, boot up from the factory os and run the dvd, or save it as an image on the 1T, pop my 512 back in and run it.
