4 out of 5 eggsFast Gaming Laptop, but small concerns

Pros: I really like the slim look of this laptop. I've been a Mac user (supplied by my office) for over a year and got accustomed to the sleek and slim look of the Macbook Pro. This laptop doesn't disappoint in that regard. I primarily purchased this as a gaming laptop and it doesn't disappoint in that regard. Batman: Arkham Knight plays at almost all of the highest settings flawlessly. It looks great on the 3K display but I primarily hook it up to the big screen via HDMI and enjoy the game from my couch. Lots and lots of standard storage with the option to expand further (I believe up to 3 or 4 TB). I like the full set of ports and peripherals that are available; coming from a Macbook I've missed a DVD drive for those small moments that I've needed one.

Cons: I had an issue with the built in microphone when upgrading this laptop from Windows 7 to 8.1/10. For some reason the mic would only work with built-in apps such as Sound Recorder and intermittently with Google Hangouts. It wouldn't work at all with apps like Skype or Rosetta Stone. Clearly the mic functioned and this was probably user error but after working with Gigabyte customer support I had to RMA it. The second laptop upgraded just fine. The laptop tends to get a bit hot when gaming but I'm sure that this is normal for most high end gaming laptops.
Battery life is very poor when compared to the Macbook Pro while connected to wifi. General document editing or watching Youtube will give you ~ 3 hours. Turn off wifi and you can squeeze out 4-5 hours.
As a software developer I find the keyboard to be a bit oddly designed. Important keys such as the 'shift' key are very small and I'm constantly missing it when typing code. Again, this could be the transition from the Macbook and the fact that the Mac doesn't have the 'numbed' so its keys can be wider.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm very please with the unit. Its slim, light and very fast in regards to gaming. Boot up time is ~5 seconds what with the OS being on SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeded Expectations

Pros: Screen (brightness and resolution, very similar to the anti-glare retina Macbook in those regards), Performance, Gigabyte's built in utilities are light and non intrusive (and actually rather helpful). 50fps for Skyrim in 3k on ultra, 300 for tf2 in 3k (150 with Antialaising turned on), subtle design (this was important to me, as it's not just going to be a gaming laptop but also a CAD/Photoshop/Protools machine)
FAST boot time.

Cons: Speakers are a little hollow, I wish the touchpad was Synaptics.
They could have made it a little thicker for better heat dissipation/battery life, but both are pretty good.

Other Thoughts: I just got this laptop in the mail a couple days ago and my initial impressions are as follows:
The 3k screen is GORGEOUS. I upgraded to Win10 and set my scaling to 200% so it's the same size as 1080p with no weird blurry stuff that previous versions of Windows had while scaling. Pictures really pop. Brightness is decent, the screen is matte and 10 has a new auto brightness feature.
Heat isn't really a problem in general use. I bought a Cooler Master Touchpal X2 cooling pad to be safe gaming but I have it on my lap right now no problem. Fans can get loud under load, one made a weird sound but I haven't been able to recreate it.
LinusTechTips had something to say about build quality for other models in the Gigabyte lineup but this one is pretty solid. The keyboard has some bulges but they don't really affect typing and a couple other sites said it is a byproduct of some design choices. Other than that it's a sleek thin metal beauty. Touchpad works fair enough, not exceedingly annoying, it's Elan and not Alps or Asus at least. (don't get me wrong, Asus makes a solid computer otherwise)
Gaming: This thing ROMPS so far. I've played Spintires and Skyrim in 3k on high (That's all I've downloaded so far on my slow wifi) No FPS or anything yet but they were smooth enough. Nvidia Optimus is usually a smooth transition.
Battery: It's a gaming laptop... About 4-5 hrs Facebook/typing/downloading Steam games, 3-4 hrs streaming, 1 hr (lol) gaming.

It came with 7 pro, and I used Gig's USB image maker to make a win7 image before I updated. However, win7 required legacy boot, and by updating I simply stayed in legacy boot (3 sec boot time though-woot!) Should I have clean installed to go UEFI? I don't really think it's an issue.
