4 out of 5 eggsgreat laptop

Pros: 4 GB of memory stock,
decent video card with switchable graphics,
full keyboard plus number pad,
great screen quality,
veriface software to unlock the comp and built in camera with light, usual software - mostly utilities that can be trashed,
GUI is pretty good with its one button seesaw approach to right
and left click,
decent speakers but i wouldn't say they pound and don't want to try to,
overall fast and easy to use, decent for the money
fast shipping, i used shoprunner.

Cons: 5400 rpm hard drive...
seriously? i thought that was standard 10 years ago...

Other Thoughts: 1 egg minus for the slower hard drive
why not reduce the size and increase the speed?
its not like i need 750 gb on a laptop... 250 or 500 is more than enough. anything else to store just get a bigger external drive for backups... i would have paid 50 bucks more for a faster, smaller drive.

2 out of 5 eggsPower Supply Issues

Pros: The laptop looks great and boots up fast. I installed 4 extra gig of ram to max it out. Coupled with the I5 processor this machine is great. Not to much extra software to get rid of. The veriface is a nice feature.

Cons: This is not a slam against newegg but more so against Lenovo. Since I first got the laptop problems related to the power supply and battery have existed. To date I have had to send my comp in for two repais and as I am typing this the same issue has once again presented itself. The first resolution was for Lenovo to send me a replacement power cord and adapter. Everything seemed ok until a few days later when I noticed an absent power cord icon adjacent to the battery indicator. I sent the laptop in for repair and the battery was replaced. This occurred roughly 1 week ago and now it has happened again. To date I have been unable to locate a specific reason for this re-occuring problem via forums. My next guess would be an issue with the motherboard. Lenovo's customer service has been great thus far but I am concerned about the re-occuring issue and have lost trust/faith in the brand. Please be weary when buying this model if it becomes available again.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing for the price

Pros: Extremely fast (boots in under 60 seconds), the i5 is completely amazing for...anything
Great GPU for a laptop in this price range...runs anything I've put on it very well (Dawn of war 2 on near max, Space Marine on max..) Not as good as any of the higher-end desktop cards but for a laptop it's awesome.

High battery life (5+ hours) owing largely to the switchable graphics

Preinstalled utilities aren't that bad - I kept most of them. Less bloat than I was expecting.

Very good speakers - best I've heard on a laptop by a wide margin.

Cons: Harddrive is a bit slow.

*Only* 4GB of RAM

(Neither of these two above are a big deal, as both the RAM and harddrive can be easily upgraded).

Weird crackling noise coming from earphones - gets annoying if you have earphones in and there is no sound playing, but otherwise not really noticeable.

Overly-large, cumbersome trackpad.

Other Thoughts: I bought it when it was around $720 and got a discount of almost $100 because they ran out of stock on some gift that came with it.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Laptop

Pros: -Runs games on high end settings (make sure you flip the metal switch on the front of the case to turn on the Nvida Card)
-Runs programs like AutoCAD and RevIt without difficulty
-Wonderful battery life! (5-6 hours at most!)
-Great Keyboard
-Great speakers
-Internal microphone works great for programs like Skype!
-Programs run smoothly once bloatware is removed
-Most drivers are up-to-date when it arrives.

Cons: -Bloatware ahoy!
-Graphic drivers need updating, especially the Intel to avoid crashes on certain programs like AutoCAD
-Slow initial load
-An okay BIOS
-Keyboard layout can be frustrating to learn initially
-LED backlight causes programs without their own Gamma settings to look washed out
-Colors need to be calibrated before they look correct in Windows Preview, Photoshop, etc.

Other Thoughts: I love this laptop. It had some bumps in the beginning for me, but overall, after over a month of use; it's a great update from my old ASUS. I love playing games on highest (or second highest in Starcraft II's case) settings. It's also great for school work as it runs memory sucking programs like Photoshop, AutoCAD, etc. smoothly.

Too bad it's out of stock; it's a great laptop for its price.

3 out of 5 eggsGood and Bad

Pros: I really like the looks and feel of this laptop. The keyboard feels comfortable to me. I really like the way the touchpad feels too.

Cons: Everything works with Linux except the nvidia graphics chip. The drivers on Lenovo's site for the nvidia graphics show up as version 267.43 wich are old now. You can only use the Lenovo supplied gpu drivers for this unit.

Other Thoughts: This is my first laptop ever. Although I have fixed several for other people. I guess I was expecting this laptop to work like a desktop in terms of compatibility with Linux. I plan on selling this unit and buying another laptop that can better fit my overall needs.
3 eggs because I bought this for the nvidia chip to be used under Linux. Other than that I would have given it 5 because it would have done everything I wanted.

5 out of 5 eggsPERFECT.

Pros: • GPU, 1GB ddr5, can play most games on HIGH setting; has on/off switch, which is great for saving tons of energy.
• i5 sandy bridge processor w/ TURBO BOOST!
• Speakers, JBL!
• 2x 2GB ram, would suffice most power hungry apps.
• 750 HDD, but only 5400rpm.
• 2x USB 3.0 (right side)
• Updated drivers.
• Great metal exterior!
• Lightweight.
• Dedicated numpad.
• Nice touch pad feel.
• Touch sensitive controls at the top.
• Huge fan/exhaust = no heating problems.

Cons: • Bloatware, although easy to uninstall/disable.
• Glossy screen.
• Small shift key.

Other Thoughts: • Came with a very nice FREE everki bag, great duo for travelling.
• 2x 2gb is not good if you're planning to upgrade your ram.
• Loving every minute with this machine. A NEAR PERFECT laptop for its price.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: What an amazing machine. It has good graphics, a powerful Intel I5 processor and I must say a very fine keyboard and trackpad.

Great price and I recieved a free backpack.

Cons: The people calling anything and everything a con is a jerk. This machine is nice and it is not without its flaws but for 700 bucks and a good graphics card, well worth it.

Other Thoughts: Only time will tell how much I will love this machine, they weren't lying... Speakers are awesome.

Go ahead and buy it! To me it is worth every penny.

5 out of 5 eggsGet What You Expected, and Then Some

Pros: I was expecting a upper mid-range laptop when I ordered this for the price... but what I wasn't expecting was getting even more than I bargained for. Even with the 5400RPM, this laptop boots much quicker than any of my previous machines that cost twice as much. And with an added 4GB of RAM, this machine was running RAGE in 1080p on high settings and hardly ever dropping below 40FPS, even during the most intense scenes of the game. The machine runs pretty cool, even with the pretty powerful hardware under the hood, and even during long gaming sessions. The ability to change the fan speeds is another plus, and the switches on front for toggling the Wireless adapter and GPU are a huge help after I'm done gaming and heading to class.

Cons: The pre-installed GPU drivers are outdated and nitpicky. I updated to the newest drivers from nVidia's website and it ended up screwing up the drivers so bad, that I had to completely uninstall them and update them again. Apparently, the best remedy is to select the Clean Install option when updating from the factory drivers. Also, there are parts of the laptop that are very fingerprint prone. The native resolution isn't anything amazing either, but I guess it's more than fine, since when I game or watch movies, I generally use an external monitor anyways. As usual, some or most of the bloatware is useless and needs to be uninstall, but took me only 15 minutes at most.

Other Thoughts: I personally love the design of this laptop, the colors and pattern on the exterior is amazing and screams my name. The keyboard was a little bit odd at first, but I've grown to like it a lot more than other laptop keyboards; the exception being the tiny shift key on the right side. The laptop comes with 2x USB 3.0 ports, which I was not expecting since I didn't see any mention of it in the details. I uninstalled a lot of the unnecessary bloatware relatively quickly, and actually ended up keeping a few programs I thought would be useful. The laptop is also lighter than my previous Dell XPS which is a good plus for travel. Speaking of travel, the free Everki bag that came with my order is amazing and has now become my designated backpack for school. On a side note, for those interested in upgrading memory: I had read this had 2 memory slots and only one was filled with a 4GB chip. However, upon buying a 4GB module and cracking it open, I discovered it was 2x2GB inside.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: CPU is epic
Dedicated GPU rocks the games I play (games like the dragon age series, portal 2 MAX, mass effect on high)
4Gb RAM (more is always better of course)
Screen looks really nice, could be a bit higher resolution though.
I happen to like the case, which everyone else seems to dislike.

Cons: 5400rpm HDD, I would much rather have a lower capacity 7200 drive or even an SSD.

Other Thoughts: For what I payed, this laptop is near perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsGood gaming laptop

Pros: Runs cool, you can barely even tell it's on except when playing a game. Awesome speakers, especially for a laptop. Quick wake up (I tend to just close the lid instead of shutting it down or hibernating it) and decently fast reboot times. Great speeds on the internet.

Cons: The orange trim around the lid....not a fan of orange. That's really the only bad thing I can think of and that is really petty and minor. Would have been nice with a Blu-ray drive but not a big deal since I don't have many Blu-ray disks yet.

Other Thoughts: I was looking to replace my laptop with something I could game on and this fits the bill. I prefer a laptop over a desktop and this one plays Borderlands on the highest settings like a dream. Much better than my husband's custom built gaming rig, which to be fair is a couple of years old now.

It's big, I didn't realize how big a 15.6" screen was going to be and it's not a lightweight either. But I bought this as a desktop alternative so I wasn't looking for portable, I have a netbook and a tablet for that.

So far it is very impressive and I'm extremely happy with my purchase, one of the main things I wanted was a machine I could play Borderlands with my husband on and possibly Dead Island. If I get Dead Island I'll update on how it runs on this laptop.
