1 out of 5 eggsOverheats -- Avoid Lenovo

Pros: It seemed like a good value at the time.

Cons: These Lenovos are poorly designed and overheat when you look at them wrong. Send them in for repair and you are told the problem is 'excessive dust' in your room. Our son has asthma and uses the computer in a clean room with a dust filter running. The tech sent me photos of the supposed 'dusty computer' and it was cleaner than most computers you see. I have seen quite a few.

Other Thoughts: Lenovo has a big problem here and they must know it. Given the internet buzz over this overheating problem I would not be surprised to see a class action lawsuit at some point. In the meantime avoid Lenovo, they are done.

1 out of 5 eggsBattery Charge and power cord issues

Pros: The laptop is being used by my son for college and he likes it. He wanted it for the face recognition. I did not want to buy from lenovo as I had no experience with them, but bought it anyway.

Cons: The face recognition is slow so it is not being used. The charger is not recogniaed by the laptop so the battery dies and leaves you with an expensive brick. I sent the latop to lenovo and they replaced the battery, but it does the same thing. Lenovo want s me to send them the laptop for a second try at repair, but I am trying to get my money back instead. Other users have posted issues with lenonvo laptops not charging.

Other Thoughts: It is not a good product dont buy it!!!
Lenovo service should solve your probelm the first time.
I have had other laptops and never had issues. Only buy expensive electronics from a company you have dealt with before.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop for the price.

Pros: Great speakers, Great GPU for the price, Nice design quality.

Cons: The fan is OK, The bloatware sucks.

Other Thoughts: I LOVE this laptop and I own one but with a intel core i5 at 2.4 GHz and I still love it. Everyone should own one. Its a great deal for the price. Its good for gaming, music, and getting stuff done. Its my favorite laptop I have owned.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget Gaming Laptop

Pros: Runs any game I have at medium to high graphics settings.

Cons: Runs hot when using 3D graphics acceleration. When playing games this is not a "laptop" you'll want to put it on a desk, table or have something else in your lap to insulate yourself from the heat. In the winter it will make a great heater.
Case is a little flimsy, but is strong enough for regular home use. If you physically abuse your laptop this one might not last too long.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Lenovo laptop and I can say my two Lenovos are by far the best laptops I've ever owned and both were obtained at GREAT price.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat computer, great price

Pros: Great price for the hardware. Honestly, an intel i7, simply amazing. This computer is super fast, and is good for gaming too. The switchable graphics are a huge plus for me because that means I can easily save power if i'm not gaming. Graphics quality is good in games once you turn on the nvidia, just don't forget or else it will be laggy. I honestly cannot understand that complaints of "overheating". Especially in games. One great thing about this laptop is that the bottom doesn't heat up at all. Literally every bit of hot hair blows out the left side, and it's not even that bad- No claim of overheating should be made at all. It's great not having a sweaty lap from using this.

If you are looking at this laptop, get it. Simply amazing

Cons: Obviously its $1,000 cheaper than other laptops so its not the best out there, but in terms of laptop per dollar this is probably the best. This will do anything you need without a problem.

The only thing i wish it had was lights for the keys. But since the screen is right there, it's not like I can't see... Just would be a nice addition.

That is certainly not enough to lose an egg from me, great laptop!

4 out of 5 eggsgreat price for the spec..but..

Pros: Great spec for the price
i7 processor
dedicated graphics with 1gb
boots right off the box
I believe it runs most of the modern games

Cons: it has cons..
it might be just for me, the keyboard feels a little wierd to me
some drivers are not working well with the other drivers.
(the current latest nvidia driver work well with some of it but not for mine)
gets hot... might want to get a cooling pad with it, and send it to lenovo to replace the thermal compound after few month while under warranty
curious but not sure, some said i7 have turbo boost, but i dont think i have it, since the throttlestop 4.0 the disable turbo boost box is in gray. wierd...

Other Thoughts: Kind of regreting that I should've bought the ideapad Y580 from lenovo site because of better spec, but I am satisfied right now except for the stuttering issue

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

Pros: Good specs for the price
Ran perfectly for ~1 month

Cons: Overheating

For me, only the GPU is unusable due to overheating
GPU idles around 65c, light use (gpu load < 25%) raises it to 100c in less then 10 minutes. Fans and heatsinks are dust free, I have the latest drivers from lenovo/nvidia, and I also use a cooling pad as well.

Many people have had problems with the CPU, GPU, or both overheating after owning the laptop for a short while.
The problem seems to be due to the thermal paste applied to the chips. Disassembled units show very poorly applied paste on both parts. Replacing the paste correctly yourself seems to fix the problem, but at the expense of voiding your warranty. I haven't sent mine to lenovo for repairs, but other people have and had the laptop returned to them with the same problems. I still haven't decided if I should try and return it, or crack it open and fix it but I shouldn't have to void my warranty to keep my laptop from overheating.

Other Thoughts: Everything about this laptop seems right, I even originally purchased it after seeing how good the heatsink and fan looked in disassembled pictures. To have a problem like thermal paste completely ruin a laptop is unfortunate to say the least.

3 out of 5 eggsWarning

Pros: A lot of computer for a decent price, but see the warning in CONS.

Cons: Just so you guys know, you aren't getting a real Geforce GT 555M in this thing. There are many versions of the 555M, not all created equal (the next to last bullet is the one in this laptop):

•144 cores 709MHz (GF106), 128Bit GDDR5, e.g. MSI GX780
•144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 192Bit DDR3, e.g. Dell XPS 17, Alienware M14x
•144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 128Bit DDR3, e.g. Schenker XMG A501 / A701 (Clevo W150HRM / W170HN)
•96 cores 753MHz (GF108), 128Bit GDDR5, e.g. Lenovo Y570p / Y560p
•144 cores 525 MHz (GF116), 128 Bit DDR3, e.g. Medion Akoya P6812

Other Thoughts: Lenovo should have been upfront on the lackluster 555M.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Laptop

Pros: Fast i7 processor, dedicated Nvidia graphics, 6 gigs of ram. What else is their to say? Oh yeah, and speakers that will kick your teeth in when you crank it up, lol. Amazing sound quality for a laptop I must say.

I play all my games from steam on it flawlessly. It will handle Skyrim on med-high settings with no prob.

Cons: The only thing I don't like too much is the mouse track pad. It just seems a bit clumsy. Also when your playing graphic intensive games it will get hot. Just make sure its in a cool well ventilated area and you'll be fine.

Other Thoughts: This laptop performs well, its possible it may have a few quirks but if you have any computer tech skills you'll figure it out with ease.

I do like the switchable graphics, it allows you to save power when needed and then turn the throttle on full when gaming. One thing to note with the switchable graphics. Only use it after windows is loaded, and disable it before you shut your computer down. From experience I haven't had any issues with it while doing that. Also you may run into problems if you switch it on while your gaming. Make sure your not running anything before you do. Overall, great budget gaming laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Fast i7 CPU, 8 logical cores, GT555 switchable graphics (for when you need more battery life), light and uber powerful.

Cons: Absolutely no cons.

Other Thoughts: This thing is a powerhouse. If you're looking for a beast without spending tons and tons of cash, you're looking at it right here. I got a cheap RAM upgrade to max this beast out @ 8GB cost about $20. I even went the extra mile to get an OCZ 120GB mSATA SDD to put in here. It turned this Ideapad into a 1st class rocketship !!
