5 out of 5 eggsMy all-time favorite laptop

Pros: Rock solid physical construction.
Highly maintainable
4 (count 'em 4) memory slots for max 32GB ram
Great display
Very fast processing
mSATA port

Cons: Annoying transposition of func and control keys

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a new ** that did not function correctly. I am so glad that the ** arrived non-working. For my use (software development and video work) this is the equal of my high end desktop development WS. I would buy this one again in a heartbeat.

I will add to this review after installing 16 additional GB of Kingston DDR3 1600 memory and the 120GB Mushkin mSATA SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: *Great workstation laptop as the previous reviewer stated.
*Traditional Thinkpad design and features
*Supports SATA III if you have drives that can do it.

Cons: *You can have any color you want as long as you want black
*The monster power brick
*Somewhat expensive for a laptop these days

Other Thoughts: Thinkpads(T series, W series) have always been great laptops for working(and playing if you have a discrete graphics card). This one seems to be no exception.

I made the reinstall disks (1 CD, 3 DVDs) and then upgraded it with the new Mushkin 240GB mSATA SSD that goes in the WWAN port inside the machine instead of the traditional drive bay. I had a little trouble getting the keyboard out, but I loosened all the case screws a half turn and was able to get it out to access the mSATA port underneath. Otherwise, physical installation was fairly easy.

I had ZERO issues with drive recognition or access. I ran it for a few days without any drive in the internal bay and it makes the machine lighter to carry. I ended up putting the stock drive back in and rerouted all of the "My ..." directories (My Music, My Videos, etc) onto the rotating drive for mass storage, leaving the SSD free for the OS and programs.

It runs amazingly fast and seems to be another great Thinkpad!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Powerhouse

Pros: Traditional ThinPad build quality (liquid flow channels, steel roll cage, very solid overall feel). Most colorful display (95% gamut!) I've ever seen on a laptop or desktop. Excellent performance.

Cons: Not a fashion accessory (i.e. Macbook). Expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. Lacks back-light keyboard, but then it wouldn't be spill-proof.

Other Thoughts: This is without a doubt the most responsive computer I've ever used, even compared to a dual-socket Westmere workstation. I upgraded to an Intel SSD 520 240GB and 32GB (4x8GB DIMM's) Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 RAM. The power brick is GIGANTIC (1.6lbs and 175W), but for a true desktop replacement I suppose that is to be expected. Don't bother trying a smaller power adapter - they won't charge the laptop while powered on (but they will charge it when powered all the way down - tested with standard 90W Lenovo adapter).

This laptop uses an NVidia Quadro 1000M graphics card which is very well suited for professional graphics applications. It is not a gaming card but will suffice. On Diablo 3 with max graphics settings at 1920x1080 I get 30fps.
