1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk 3000

Pros: The RMA works sometimes

Cons: The laptop was shipped with the battery in the laptop and the laptop was loose in the box. The first laptop had a broken keyboard. RMAed and got a second laptop. The 2nd laptop was also shipped with the battery in the latop and was loose in the box. The 2nd laptop had trouble with the trackpad not works, but now appears to work.

4 out of 5 eggsMmmmm, Thinkpad!

Pros: Solid feel and look, very little wear, and very clean. All exceptionally so for being a three year old machine. This will be my fifth Thinkpad, after a 365CD, a 600e, a 390X, and a T41p. I would rather buy a used one than a new of anything else, since I can't afford a new one, at the moment.
The keyboard action and feel are solid, and the motion is crisp, all as good as when it was new. Even the battery charge is better than my son's, which we actually bought from Big Box after the warranty on this one had expired. Even though his hardware stats look better on paper, this machine is quicker and feels better.

Cons: For some reason there were letter stickers on the keyboard, as though to "freshen up" the look of the keyboard. I'm not faulting the reasoning, but, after about twenty minutes of carefully removing all of the stickers, the only issue was slight wear on the letter "s" on that key. Many of the keys had been worn shiny, but that is typical of all the Thinkpads that I have owned. It's not a big deal, but I like Thinkpads for certain brand-wide consistencies, one of them being the feel of the keyboard. This will be the fifth Thinkpad I have owned, and every one, going all the way back to the 365CD from 1995, has felt exactly the same. This may sound like a minor thing, and it is, but I write a LOT, between prose and coding, so the feel of the keyboard makes a difference to me.
Also, I had to enter the OS key twice, for some reason, on first booting up the computer. Again, not a big deal, but it seems like something that could have been handled at install.
One more minor quibble is the ThinkVantage button: it doesn't work. I'm fairly certain that I'm savvy enough to fix this, and I don't remember ever using the one on my T41p.

Other Thoughts: Hard drive size is a little small, after the much larger drives on the "cheaper" laptops in the house, but it is intended to be a work laptop, not something I'm going to load up with video or music or games. The delivery was excellent and painless, even arriving a day earlier than anticipated. All in all, I will check here before anywhere else for my future computer-related purchases.
