1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Network Driver Support

Pros: Powerful hardware, good sized screen, overall good specs.

Cons: The available network drivers for this thing are absolutely horrible. Wireless does not work out of the box for either Windows 7 or any variety of Linux I tried (Ubuntu, a couple kinds of Arch), and Linux does not even have Ethernet support. Installing these, while obnoxious on Windows, is nearly impossible on Linux, as available Broadcom drivers do not seem to work for the specific chip included (BCM4313). When the drivers do work on Windows, the connection is unreliable and drops frequently. Based on other reviews and a few forum posts, it would seem that this laptop can ship with different wireless cards, so it's effectively random whether you receive a functional machine. If you happen to get the BCM4313, then you are out of luck if you ever have the desire to connect to the internet.

Other Thoughts: Good hardware for the price, but if you want internet access then you're out of luck.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Laptop!

Pros: Lots of performance and speed. Great for normal everyday use and even makes for a great gaming laptop.

Cons: bloatware from Lenovo just bogs down the boot up, but can be disabled for quicker boot.

Other Thoughts: bought this for my wife for school work and for my son to play games. Works perfect for both of them!

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent machine for the price.

Pros: This computer is a great deal for the price. It is fast, not too heavy for a 17" laptop. It even blows away my work laptop (Also a Lenovo). Seems built solid (other than the optical drive - see below), but is not as solid as a Thinkpad (Lenovo's business grade laptops).

Cons: The optical drive is a little flimsy. When closing it you have to push down slightly or the faceplate of the drive rubs the underside of the laptop. The i7 is a dual core, not a quad core, but the performance of the processor makes up for it.

Other Thoughts: Over all, this is a great machine for the price. I am a Lenovo certified repair technician, and I believe with proper care, this laptop will last quite a few years. However, as a word to consumers: ANY computer hardware can die at ANY time WITHOUT warning, no matter who manufactures it. That's the nature of technology. It is still man-made.

2 out of 5 eggsdisappointed... but nice 'laptop'

Pros: 17inch, 750gb hhd, wide keyboard, quiet opperation, memory speed.

it stays cool... cause the type of proccessor

Cons: it's 1600x900 for a 17inch screen...

I upgraded to win7 ultimate, cause premium won't do what I want it to. DRIVERS are easy, until you get to the video, intel driver works, but nvidia driver is a pita, I still haven't found a driver download for the 'geforce gt 630m', I've even tride the beta, they give 'there is no nvidia product on this computer, setup will fail everytime cause it can't recognize it cause the intel hardware is in the way.

i7-3520m 2core with 2 hyper thread, 4 threads. not good for virtualization. the only good thing about this proccessor is the temp is cool.

Other Thoughts: I'm disapointed in 2 things, the resolutiuon and the i7 being an overclocked i3 (look up the specs).

the thing that gets me really annoyed, is the driver for teh video card.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointment

Pros: Big screen, not getting hot

Cons: Keyboard's key arrangement, specially the delete and arrows keys

Windows Media Player is not working on my machine, Lenovo support told me Windows Media Player is not supported under warranty

I am getting stupid message that a boot time is xx seconds, while it takes at least twice as much time until I can use the laptop

When the machine is put into hibernate mode, after recovery from hibernate it is not restarting - I have to remove battery to restart PC

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent for Linux

Pros: Powerful, nice looking, fast graphics, excellent sound, wide screen, fantastic keyboard that is not mushy. It is perfect for web developers or programmers. Just put Linux on there and rock away. I use Gnome Shell on it and I do all my programming on it now.

Cons: I have problems with Ubuntu 12.10 recognizing the usb wireless mouse I use. I have to unplug/replug the mouse dongle to get it to recognize it. The laptop is very big and wide. I can barely fit it into my courier bag.

Other Thoughts: Great price, solid quality, Linux compatible.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: This is an awesome laptop for the money. I spent hours agonising what to buy, and eventually settled on this one.

Delivery from New Egg was stated as 3 day surface, and I think they beat that deadline - 5 stars for NewEgg.

The i7 processesor is fast, the RAM; while of budget variety works fine and at the stated speed, the screen is dead pixel free and the support from Lenovo was awesome.
I switched out the HDD for a SSD which is where the support from Lenovo came in handy - they dispatched a set of recovery disks to help me out straight away and they arived a couple of days later. Worked no problems at all.
The Video card specs look great - I have yet to actually put it through any paces though.
USB3 ports are awesome fast too.

Quiet as anything - can hardly hear the fans - of course I have the SSD so there is no sound from that to contribute.

Cons: The only con I can think of, is the NVIDEA graphics card auto switching to preserve battery life (Optimus), in prefering the Intel onboard 4000 chip over the video card. I understand what it is and why it is there, but I think there should be a switch to force it one way or the other. Having said that I knew what I was getting, and it wont impact my use of the computer. But if graphics card is important to you, read up on its features first.

There is no external switch to turn wireless on and off - hadnt thought of that prior to buying - I prefer a physical switch over a keypress - but that is inconsequential.

The choice of external monitor connections is limited, but it serves my purpose - just make sure there are appropriate ports for your needs.

5 out of 5 eggsnice!

Pros: This laptop has a very nice feel to it. If your a fan of Lenovo keyboards it won't disappoint. Very nice for gaming if you need a budget computer to play WoW or something.

Cons: large

Other Thoughts: It's a monster...if you like small don't buy.

5 out of 5 eggsreally good

Pros: runs games well:
star wars the old republic
Assassins Creed
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 & 2

Cons: Occasionally game shuts down. However, restarts without rebooting computer. Older CD roms take a while to read, but do work. Randomly disconnects from the internet, however easily reconnectable.
