5 out of 5 eggsFollow-up to Review

Pros: Took this notebook on its first road trip. Size & weight make it very easy to transport. Excellent wireless adapter -- managed to connect to my parents router 2 large rooms away (@40') with 2 solid rebar-reinforced structural walls in between. Very quiet and doesn't run (too) hot under load.

Cons: The "chicklet" keyboard has taken a bit longer for me to get used to, especially the directional up/down keys, which are half-sized.

When using battery, the screen not quite as bright as I would prefer.

Other Thoughts: I've been using this computer for just over a month now. I also bought another one for my parents to use, so I can easily trouble-shoot if needed. The HP docking station is great -- my dad is using the notebook with a wireless mouse & keyboard and large monitor connected to the docking station.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Solid, Nothing Fancy

Pros: 1. Very solid build quality.

2. Easiest access to RAM / hard drive for upgrade / replacement.

3. HD+ (1600 x 900) panel is much better than the "normal" 1366 x 768 panels found in the majority of notebook computers at this price point and below.

4. Windows 7 Professional -- allows remote operation / updating / troubleshooting of the computer via Remote Desktop.

5. Windows 7 Professional DVD (and driver DVD) included if you want to do a clean install of the OS.

Cons: 1. The display isn't quite as bright as I would have preferred.

2. No on/off switch for the trackpad, which comes in handy if it is off and the mouse battery dies.

3. No slider or rocker switch to control volume. You have to use the Function (fn) and f6 / f7 keys or use the OS to change the volume.

Other Thoughts: I definitely didn't buy this for PassMark or 3DMark scores, but the A10 APU is more than up to the task for which it was originally purchased -- crunching large, complex spreadsheets and light gaming.

HP offers several compatible docking stations that connect via a docking port (not USB!), allowing the user to attach another monitor and/or full keyboard without having to disconnect / reconnect various cables when moving the computer from room to room.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Almost no pre installed software. HP added a few tools but that it's. Runs quiet and cool. I will be installing a SSD but other than that it's just as I wanted it.

Everything feels sturdy and well constructed. I have not really tested it out yet but will be doing that over he next few weeks.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Price. Great Laptop!

Pros: This is pretty much the best value laptop I could find after extensive hands-on and online researching. Very durable and very fast. I bought this laptop for my mother who is a real estate broker, and so she carries her laptop around everywhere. Great for the person on the go. You'd be missing out if you didn't buy this on your budget.

Cons: $830 more than I would like to pay

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop! Great price!

Pros: Great build quality, anti-glare screen, not too heavy, FAST, keyboard is great to type on, touchpad is amazing, EVERYTHING about this laptop is amazing. Small footprint but still big enough for everyday use.

Cons: Custom HP partitions...don't mess with these or you will have to reformat and lose all custom partitions. Runs a little hot.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this laptop for anybody.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good laptop for a good price

Pros: Screen has a good resolution and colors are nice.
Very snappy processor. Graphics card is an in-processor HD7660G, but runs NBA 2k13 at 50fps in native resolution (1600x900) with default settings (most high and a few medium).
Solid build quality. Brushed aluminum body cover. Keyboard is protected from accidental spills. Has a quick-removal bottom cover to easily upgrade hardware. Touchpad feels nice.
8GB of dual-channel DDR3 RAM running @1600 MHz.
Very good battery life. I was able to get 7,5 hours in battery saving mode. 2,25 hours while playing NBA 2k13 on high performance profile.
Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8 Pro are both included with the laptop.

Cons: HDD is not very fast.

Other Thoughts: First thing to do is to install SSD instead of HDD.

1 year ago I have bought Lenovo Ideapad Y570 with i7-2630QM sandy bridge processor, 8GB of RAM and NVIDIA GT555M for $800. This HP has the same snappiness of the Lenovo, but runs NBA 2k13 much smoother. Also has at least 3 hours more of battery life in saving mode and 1,5 hours more in performance mode. Can play NBA at full speed on battery while Lenovo only runs 1 hour max with NVIDIA. And also the build quality is much much much better in HP.
