5 out of 5 eggsExtremely Fast, Great for Playing Games

Pros: Clear screen, barely any bloatware that came with the laptop. I got this laptop August 28, 2012 and today this laptop does not slowdown for anything. The performance is excellent for doing almost anything and I have gotten the battery to last 9 - 10 hours off a full charge using power saver mode.

Cons: The only downside is that this computer doesn't have a dedicated graphics card. The graphics run from the processor itself and sometimes doesn't stabilize the FPS, but for just on-board graphics simply running from the CPU itself, the game performance surprised me. I can run Minecraft at 60 on max settings, and some 1st person shooter games vary by game.

Other Thoughts: The battery design can sometimes feel weird when using the laptop on your lap as it can feel uncomfortable with the battery sitting on your lap, but while sitting on a desk it curves the keyboard to make it more comfortable to use as it tilts the keyboard toward the user to make it easier to type. The keyboard itself is nice and sleek with the keys and it can make typing faster and more precise.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus dropped the ball

Pros: Monitor is nice looking but built very cheap. It worked for a couple months before it died.

Cons: I used to buy everything Asus and use all there latest boards and hardware in my builds. I had to send this monitor in for repair after it died. Well when it come back it was so scratched up it looked as if I found it in the junk yard. I have tried to get a response from Asus to see why it was completely damaged at the hands of their repair center. But they will not respond to my emails. I will never use or buy anything Asus from now on.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte is much better than Asus anyway if your looking for hardware that's going to last. Don't believe the hype...

5 out of 5 eggsJust about perfect for my application

Pros: Fast processor, big screen, can accommodate 2 HDDs, still has Windows 7, enough memory, three USB 3.0 ports, big battery.

Cons: Bloatware, but it's not too bad. Heavy. Battery digs into my legs.

Other Thoughts: I am using this laptop as the basis for a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), and for that it's just about perfect. DAWs need lots of processing power, and this laptop has it. Audio files can be big, so being able to add a 2nd HDD to this laptop is a definite plus. Actually what I did was add a SDD as the main drive, and moved the HDD to the second bay. Now it really cooks. The big screen is great to be able to display many tracks at a time. The lack of a dedicated graphics card is not a problem since DAWs are not very graphics intensive.

My refurbished laptop came in pretty good shape. The case was a little bit smudged up, but the rest of it appears like it is new and everything seems to work fine. The battery holds a charge just fine.

Battery life is excellent; I am getting 6+ hours on a charge. The battery protrudes from the back such that it raises up the computer a little bit. This is actually nice because it makes it easier to use the keyboard and it helps with ventilation. However, the battery bump plus the laptop weight make it uncomfortable to use on your lap without a lap desk. Since I always use a lap desk it's not a problem for me.

I wish the disc drive was LightScribe comparable, and I wish the RJ-45 LAN port was on the right side rather than the left, but now I'm getting picky.

I would definitely buy this laptop again.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: This particular model has the spec's of a $1800 laptop. This version of the i7 is such a good deal by itself, performs really well compared iwth others. The memory is more that sufficient, large screen. The computer looks sleek from the exterior and is faster than 9/10 desktops. Killer keyboard, killer speakers, insane battery life.

Cons: The HDMI and VGA plugs are literally too close in, they cannot both be used simultaneously, ruining the ability to multiscreen. Not cool. Also, the HDD is fine, but I did buy a SSD to boot the OS from. With the SSD this thing is a top of the line machine.

4 out of 5 eggsGood deal on fast laptop

Pros: Intel i7 CPU, fast DDR3 RAM, audio/speaker package, dual hard drive support, fingerprint scanner, USB3, pre-installed software isn't totally worthless. Runs very cool.

Cons: Only has Win7 Home installed, which is limited. HDD is very slow, partitioned with normal pre-install waste. Only 1600x900 display. GPU may not be best for high end gaming. Keyboard takes some time to get used to.

Other Thoughts: There is space for a second HDD, but you'll need to buy the connector cable & bracket separately ($45). I swapped in an Intel SSD, and it now boots in 10 seconds. (really!) Not too many notebooks have good speaker systems, so if that is important to you (like me), the HP Beats Audio machines are a good choice.
