5 out of 5 eggsfantastic!

Pros: needed a new laptop for office work. Upgraded from a 7 year old Dell laptop struggling to run XP to this. After throwing on a fresh install of win 7, this g7-1333ca is golden.

I was nervous about it being refurbished, but nothing appears to be out of order. No dead pixels. No issues running the system. No noticable defects (though there is a small round hole on the overlay surrounding the keyboard- I think that's intentional tho). The only thing out of the ordinary was the panel covering the RAM wasn't completely snapped in place.

Compared to first generation i3 mobile chips, the 2350m in this system runs cool doing normal (non gaming) tasks.

Very pleased in particular with the screen and its size. Bright and vibrant.

This system's performance at $450 makes it an amazing value for general use. Not so sure for gaming tho.

Cons: Loaded with your typical HP bloatware and junk software. Wasn't an issue for me since I have a Win 7 install disc handy.

The keyboard layout takes some getting used to. Some of the keys aren't placed where they ought to be. The enter key is the worst offender.

The RAM DIMMs came plastered with stickers.

I don't like the touchpad. Instead of being an inset pan with a smooth surface, its flush with the laptop's surface. Software defaults for the pad are troublesome since it registers a single touch as a double click. Responsiveness isn't the greatest either and I was accidentally opening up stuff until I turned that feature off.

Other Thoughts: I took a gamble buying a refurbished laptop not knowing what to expect. Lots of people seem to confuse 'refurbished' with 'open box' assuming Newegg did the refurb themselves. No. This particular refurb is an old unsold laptop sent back to HP to have outdated hardware replaced with newer stuff.

This is the second laptop I've bought from Newegg, and is the second time I got a laptop with barcode stickers plastered all over the RAM chips. STOP DOING THAT! To anyone reading this: remove the back panel before starting up your laptop for the first time and inspect the memory. Remove any out of place stickers- they can actually cause a short circuit! As in the computer won't run! I know so! It happened to me with my first Newegg laptop! The ONLY stickers that should be on the RAM are the large laminated rectangular ones with the manufacturer's name printed on them.

Newegg is usually very good with shipping, but this came in a giant box that was obviously creamed by something large and heavy during shipping. The packing material was folded brown paper (!). I'm lucky the laptop itself came in its own padded box!

Also: IMPORTANT NOTE: if you do buy refurb from Newegg, make sure you keep the box the computer shipped in for the first 30 days! It can't be returned without one!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Product.

Pros: Great screen. Installing things has gone very fast and no hiccups so far. slick design, and the wrist rest is no sharp.

Cons: I picked out and setup this laptop for a coworker, if it had been for me i would have sent it back... The Shift key and the Enter key are single width. This causes MANY MANY MANY annoyances and a miss types. Especially when typing Passwords. basically, the shiftkey is single width and when you used to pressing the inside most of the key, you now hit another key, so you have to retrain yourself to stretch your pinkies out farther.

Other Thoughts: other than the odd keyboard, the computer is great.
