2 out of 5 eggsRough Shape

Pros: The laptop works very well. All good with the software.

Cons: The laptop case was in rough shape. edge of it was cracked and the piece almost came off but i tried my best to get it stay. A lot of scratches and it does get hot very fast.

Other Thoughts: I kind of expected that it would be in rough shape like used and scratched up but to the point where its chipping away, I did not expect.

3 out of 5 eggsEhh

Pros: Cheap computer. Dual core.

Cons: The LCD screen has a "sweet spot" in the middle when looking at it. If you slightly move to the side, top, or bottom, then the image fades away.

The screen is pretty dark even on the high brightness setting. It also has a slight brown tinge to it. Looking at 3 other laptop screens and 3 other desktop LCDs screens this one just looks dim and brown. The whites are not vibrant like the 6 other screens I'm looking at right now. For this I'm taking 2 eggs off. I bought one 6 months and thought it was okay, maybe this one has a worn out LCD back-light. I hope it lasts.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is a perfect laptop for lightweight use. I really enjoy the look and feel of this machine despite its age. Though the computer can't do anything fantastic, Linux mint runs quite fast on it and the price is incredibly hard to beat.

Bit different from the trackpad set up I'm used to as the buttons arent completely flush with the pad but I actually prefer this.

Cons: My only real complaint is the sensitivity of the touch volume slider, though with practice it actually becomes excellent for rapid volume adjustments.

Other Thoughts: I rate this 5/5 because I knew exactly what kind of laptop I was ordering and I got exactly that, love it

4 out of 5 eggsFirst Impressions

Pros: Solid build, the screen hinges and the keyboard don't flex one bit.

Square, well spaced keys, I basically buy business laptops just for the keyboard.

High quality hardware goes well with a Linux installation.

Overall better then expected, thanks Newegg.

Cons: Top bar requires trained fingers, especially to change the volume you'll need to touch it just right.
Built-in speakers are both on the right side.

Win 7 doesn't handle the speakers well, left channel worked, right channel was dead.

Win 7 is a bit of a hog, performance unimpressive, but there is alternatives out there.

Win Vista sticker to remind you that it could have been worse.

Other Thoughts: Installed Ubuntu almost immediately, which works out of the box and made the whole experience a bliss.

Sound works well in Ubuntu, can hear both speakers and they actually sound very nice for a business laptop. This is somewhat of a paradox if you consider the sorry state of sound in Linux of a few years ago, I can see winds of change.

The battery and power adapter are not branded HP but they've worked well this past one day. Battery doesn't seem to want to last as long as two hours, but some say that Li-ion needs a certain period of use before it reaches the peak of its performance. We'll see.

First time I buy a refurbished laptop and I wanted a reputable company for such deflowering. Newegg proved to be Prince (Princess, possibly) Charming in and out.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop for the money

Pros: I got this for $209 shipped, a deal that is hard to beat. The laptop itself has great build quality and feels very solid, HP's business computers are very reliable and I don't expect this to break. It comes with Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) and it comes with no bloatware whatsoever, just the drivers needed to run the laptop (including its various buttons). It runs well enough for checking e-mail, browsing the web, and word processing. To my surprise it also has Bluetooth, a light sensor for adjusting the screen automatically, and a couple other built in goodies.

Cons: The 2GB of RAM, small HDD (not particularly fast either), the screen isn't anything to write home about, and the graphics are pretty weak. You won't use this for much more than browsing the web, forget about doing any photo editing, CAD, video editing, etc. It's really barebones and I didn't expect anymore for the price. I docked it one egg though for the battery life, it isn't great. It is around 2 hours. My i7 Toshiba can beat that.

Other Thoughts: This is refurbished and as a result the outside isn't perfect and you don't get much in the box. Just the laptop, a battery, a battery charger, and a Windows 7 reinstall DVD. My laptop looks brand new at first glance but if you really look hard you can see some small micro scratches on some spots. Most of the exterior is a textured black or gray and not prone to scratches so you probably won't notice any cosmetic flaws.

I bought this for my grandfather to browse the internet, make craigslist postings, e-mail, and check the weather. It should be perfect for the job.
