5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop I've ever had!

Pros: I've had this laptop for nearly 10 months now and I am very impressed with the hardware for the price. I immediatly upgraded the harddrive to a Crucial 500GB solid state hard drive (SSD). HP actually made this fairly easy with the recovery image that I flashed onto a USB stick. My boot time is around 1-2 seconds!! SSD's are the best system performance boost in the last ten years. I didn't care about the touch screen but it has been nice to while showing a presentation. I believe that the 4th generation haswell chips are Intels first low leakage power FinFET processors (also known as 3D transistors) and it seems to have a very extended battery life.

Over the holidays I connected the HDMI port to a big screen while streaming movies and TV shows. With just a wireless mouse, this was easy to do from the sofa since the HP has a built in software based keyboard that can be used with mouse pointer.

USB 3.0 is blazing fast, I was clocking 120MB/s transfers to and from my external drive.

Cons: The interface on Windows 8 is very stupid! They attempted to merge the tablet experience with the desktop experience and failed miserably! There are no drivers (as of January 2014) for Windows 7. I decided to deal with Windows 8 because I want to use hardware specific drivers instead of slow generic drivers.

The no button mouse pad is also stupid! It is hard to use which is why I bought the wireless mouse. If I wanted a mac, I would buy a mac.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Laptop....Slow Disk

Pros: Laptop had great features for the price, graphics could have been better, but as a non-gamer office worker, the laptop is great for my needs.

Cons: HDD is SLOOWWWW. Constantly getting 100% usage on the disk causing the computer to bog down.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this to anybody who does not need bleeding edge fast technology. I mainly used it for writing college papers and watching Netflix/youtube.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk Screens

Pros: Performance.

Cons: Sound went out after 3 weeks, touchscreen out after 4. screen cracked during normal operation. HP warranty will not cover it $300 at least to repair with the same screen.

Other Thoughts: All the HP Envy laptops are built the same way. Top cover may be too light to adequately protect the screen. If you buy don't buy refurbish, and don't buy it here. I threw away $600, will replace and not repair it.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop but RMA 4 times

Pros: This laptop is Intel i7 4 cores and 8 threads cpu. Run very fast with upgrade mini SSD. I use SSD for boot drive and 1tb HDD for back up. Windows 8 Index Score the cpu, memory and hard disk are 7.9 except graphic 6.6 on both. Bright screen picture and good sound. I like the touch screen windows and card reader. Excellent laptop if it work.

Cons: I didn't like it because it worked only 2 week and didn't power up. I return for RMA. 2nd replacement I received was touch screen did not work. I contacted HP support to help to reset the system but still not work. I sent back for RMA. 3rd replacement I received was the same laptop. Newegg tech support said it had fix and return back to me. Touch screen sometimes work and many time did not function. I capture the video of touch screen issue and sent it back again for RMA. The 4th replacement RMA was the good laptop. Now it did not have any issue.

Other Thoughts: The warranty is only 90 days. Use as your own risk. HP support is difficulty to contact.

5 out of 5 eggsBlazing fast, runs perfect, buy it now.

Pros: I have had this almost 3 months and I must say that it is an amazing computer. It boots to the login screen in about 10 seconds and is logged in using the finger print scanner in about 20 seconds. It is fast... I take very good care of my stuff and so far have not had any problems as others have had.

Cons: No dvd drive but I knew that when I bought it.

Other Thoughts: You wont find a better laptop at a lower price.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal if it lasts

Pros: I ordered this online because it's a lot of computing power for the price even as a refurb. I use my laptop for a lot of scientific computing and need all 4 cores. It looks nice on the exterior as well (although a bit too similar to a macbook for my tastes)

Cons: So the bad part is that after working fine for a week, the laptop wouldn't start and I had to get it replaced. Also, just be aware that there is no optical drive or vga port.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: Very fast, Touch screen, Size, I installed a MSATA SSD and from start to desktop only takes 15 seconds. I really like the finger print scanner.

Cons: No optical drive. With out the optical drive I would expect to have an extra HDD bay.

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding hardware for the money

Pros: I am a processor architect that designs microprocessors for a living.

The main reason that I bought this laptop is because of the process technology node (22nm FinFET by Intel). Literature states as much as an 80% reduction "leakage power" by using 3D transistors (FinFETs), this improves battery life and allows for more aggressive clock rates.

The price for a new laptop with a 4th generation core i7, with 12GB of DDR, and a 1TB HD was incredible.

The laptop is sharp looking ... slim, sleek, and is very light weight.

I didn't really care about the touch screen at purchase time, but it is nice to have when showing presentations.

I decided to ditch the magnetic hard drive for a solid state drive and the performance sky rocketed! To the end user, this is the biggest performance boost in the last 10 years. I would highly recommend upgrading to an SSD, your boot up time will only take a few seconds.

Cons: Windows 8 - I assumed that I could downgrade (upgrade in my mind) to Windows 7 64 but as it turned out HP doesn't provide driver support for Windows 7. I am hoping that they will eventually give up on Win8 and back port the drivers to Win7.

I don't really like the Mac like touch pad, if I wanted a Mac I would buy one.

What was Microsoft thinking with trying to turn my PC into a phone?

I would have given 5 stars if the laptop had a windows 7 option!

Other Thoughts: All things considered, this is the best laptop I've ever owned!

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Impressed

Pros: Very cheap for the performance. i have yet to put it through its paces but its done a great job for a travel computer for just messing around with games/movies/internet. Battery life is ok, if I'm streaming a movie it lasts maybe 2-3 hrs. I still am not too sold on windows 8, but that's not the computers fault. I could get motivated and install 7. The touch screen works better than I expected, though I don't use it very often.

Cons: It is refurbished, so I'm very curious to see how well it does going forward. I think one of the other reviews started having issues a couple months in. I've only had it for about a month. When I first got it the mouse pad click had a weird stick to it, but now after some use its working fine.

Other Thoughts: I'm really picky about 5 egg ratings. In all honesty I would put this thing at a 4.5 if I could. Its not perfect but pretty good.

1 out of 5 eggsDoomed to Fail

Pros: Super fast. Cheap price for what you get.

Cons: Failed on me 3 weeks in.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure many others are having the same problem as well. I researched the other laptops, and found that the older versions had the same problem. It was due to the "Beats" volume dial that was on the top right of the laptop. There is a strong chance that their is still an issue with the battery power. I recommend not buying this laptop.
