1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing Overall

Pros: The computer functions fine as a work computer or for watching movies. However, it was purchased as a gaming laptop, and it cannot function as a gaming laptop AT ALL!

Cons: This laptop was advertised as a gaming laptop, and its gaming capabilities are severely limited. If the game has any type of graphics, the FPS rate drops to under 10, making the computer completely useless until the frame rate recovers. I can't even play a game that was made in 1998 (Starcraft)! This fact alone makes me question trying any type of high-end activity on this laptop. I have even taken the extra step of purchasing a laptop cooler, to no avail.

Within two months of getting the laptop, I had to send it back to HP to have the display fixed. I installed an HP recommended update, and it completely took out the display; you could hear the computer turn on, but nothing would appear on the screen.

The biometrics are very iffy, as well. Entering a password is no big deal, but it is frustrating to have a fingerprint scanner that only works about 60% of the time. Additionally, when the biometric reader fails, the password box does not automatically appear. You have to manually select what type of security you want to utilize (password or fingerprint). Instead of being an ease-of-access device, it actually becomes more of a nuisance.

Other Thoughts: All-in-all, DO NOT get this laptop. If you are interested in doing gaming on your laptop, this one will 100% disappoint you. If you don't need the gaming, you can probably get a computer that will be just as satisfactory for a significantly better price.

It is just frustrating to get a computer strictly for gaming purposes, pay for a gaming computer, and then have it completely fail as a gaming laptop. I am VERY disappointed in HP.

4 out of 5 eggsWell Worth The Cost

Pros: Fast Processor, more than enough RAM and power to run multiple programs at once. Backlit keyboard is good for when you don't want to turn on lights. Touch-screen and finger print password entry saves time.

The screen is very big so you can keep two applications visible for reference.

Battery lasts longer than 3 hours

Cons: I got bad RAM shipped with my unit. PC was totally unstable and I was thinking of sending it back, but it would have cost a fortune since I am traveling abroad.

I took out the 4GB stick of RAM and the system doesn't give any more BSODs anymore but it looks like my OS wasn't refreshed correctly as there are a couple of annoying problems:

1. Fingerprint swiping doesn't work for PC access anymore meaning I have to type in my Windows password every time I log on (but it does work for program access).

2. I get the Cryptnet.dll security concern error quite a bit. Must click OK 10-20 times then no problems for a while.

3. DVD reader can't read my personally made DVDs, even though my friend's new laptop can.

4. Touchpad is too unwieldy for me. I don't want to mess with settings so I plugged in a cheap USB mouse. It's easier to scroll with a wheel rather than an undefined area of the mouse pad.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Purchase.

Pros: This refurbished laptop came in a flawless condition. You get a nice RAM upgrade to 12GB, a zippy 4th gen i7, and a mongo 1TB hard drive, all encased in the beautiful HP Envy frame. The software easily updated to Windows 8.1, and all peripherals( keyboard, touchscreen, touchpad) worked beautifully as expected.

Cons: Compared to my wife's envy 15 (which has a 3rd gen 2.6GHz i5), the air coming out of the heatsink fan does get a lot more toasty at times. I'm sure this is due to the i7's increased power requirements. Just be sure to keep the fan area clear at all times...

Other Thoughts: I freaked out when I first turned on the laptop and didn't see the backlit keyboard light up immediately. I thought I was sent the wrong one. However, don't fret. Just hit F5. Haha.

4 out of 5 eggsGoing great

Pros: Large screen
Fingerprint scanner
quad-core
backlit keyboard
1TB drive
12GB Ram

It is fast

Cons: So far the 5400 rpm drive is a real crippler. But I changed it to a 7200rpm drive and all is well. My next goal will be to replace it with a SSD and this thing will cook.
