1 out of 5 eggsAll around terrible

Pros: None.

Cons: System specs not as advertised. System was DOA, with constant power cycling after 90-120 sec of uptime.

Other Thoughts: System was advertised as 8510W, box said 8510W, system was 8510P with smaller HDD and lower grade ATI graphics instead of nVidia.
An acquaintance of mine had exactly the same experience with exactly the same item.

Be aware of mismatch and the fact that you will not be able to get the correct system if you go through the replacment process - process took me 1 1/2 months due to stock item mismatch. Recommend that you purchase replacement plan in case system is DOA and you do wish to keep it.

2 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Upon arrival of this laptop, the mousepad stopped working and would only start working again with a restart. Since the mousepad was not working, I decided to try the mouse pointer in the middle of the keyboard. This did not work so well, upon moving it two times, I found it to be so dry rotted that it crumbled into the keyboard.

My next issue, as many have proclaimed, is the charger. It was from the first time I plugged it in, making a squealing sound like a cable hitting a fan inside of a computer. I was sitting on my couch playing Wildstar beta and all of the sudden my one year old sitting next to me freaks out. The reason for this was the charge was smoking and caught fire on the back of my couch. I now have a singe mark on the back of my couch. Do NOT leave this plugged in over night as this is a VERY common issue with his specific models' after market cheap charger.

Other Thoughts: The laptop itself worked fine minus the mousepad though. The fire hazard alone for the charger is lucky that they did not get sued for a fire.

3 out of 5 eggsBad AC adaptor

Pros: Very good laptop for the price. I used these at work a couple of years ago and found them to be a high quality business class laptop with many features, including the ability to work on a docking station. Both units I received were in very good condition and except for the AC adaptors worked well.

Cons: I purchased two 8510W laptops. The 8510W and the 8510P that I received both came with the AC adapter and cord. That said, I strongly advise you to get a good quality (HP if possible) AC adaptor. The ones that were supplied with my laptops were cheap aftermarket units that did not last very long. One went up in smoke in 30 minutes.

Other Thoughts: When I contacted Newegg about my AC adaptor failures they were very willing to issue an RMA and tried to be helpful, but could not just replace the AC adaptor. I decided not to send them back and found good quality AC adaptors and docking stations for both of the laptops.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality Refurb

Pros: Price

Newegg fixed the problems

Cons: Ordered 3 units all 3 had power adapters that got so hot they melted. One arrived and was a 8510p not W another arrived with faulty touchpad and keyboard. Another had issues where it would crash after 2 seconds. of the three I kept one and ordered a power supply for it and new egg reimbursed me.

1 out of 5 eggsGot two "P" models - not the HP 8510W

Pros: These HPs are well made machines. The "W" stands for workstation.

Cons: The HP 8510P are less computer than the HP 8510W. Newegg sent me units twice, both were "P" units when they were supposed to be "W". Don't know who messed up the situation, Newegg or the refurbishment vender DIS (who was supposidly Microsoft Authorized), but it is a big mess. Sent both units back at Newegg's expense and my inconvience.

Other Thoughts: I keep getting negative re-enforcement every time a try for something "referbed". Maybe soon I'll learn.

1 out of 5 eggsPower supplies overheat

Pros: Low price lure...

Cons: The touchpads on did not work on any of the laptops I received. Also the power supplies for all laptops overheat. The first laptop's power supply actually burned out and started smoking within 30 minutes. Very dangerous. In addition, the screen resolution was misstated in the specifications.

Other Thoughts: This was the first refurbished item I have purchased through newegg. I was really counting on these working out for a customer. I may have been able to live with the touchpads not working by purchasing external mice for each laptop (although it would be an added expense for me) but the power supplies burning up sealed the deal. Attempting to contact newegg to get them replaced. I have always purchased new items from newegg with no problems at all. I am assuming that the company who refurbished these laptops passed on the erroneous information to newegg as newegg has always been meticulous in their specifications. I hope newegg can support me and my 4 laptop purchase with the company refurbishing these laptops. This is where the problem stems.

5 out of 5 eggsMis-advertised, but resolved quickly

Pros: The laptop was in decent enough shape for a refurbished item, but was not the 8510w advertised. If I were looking for an 8510p, it would have been ideal. I am giving this 5 eggs because Newegg promptly resolved the issue by offering a refund or replacement.

Cons: The item received was an HP 8510p with completely different specs. The laptop had a 1280x800 resolution screen as opposed to the advertised 1920x1200.

Other Thoughts: The 8510p received had a Core 2 duo T8100, 80gb HDD, 2Gb RAM, a 1280x800 screen resolution, and a Mobility Radeon HD 2600. Decent enough specs for a laptop, but the primary reason the machine was purchased was for the 1920x1200 screen resolution.

1 out of 5 eggsunimpressed

Pros: arrived quickly, less than $200 with an actual video card.
Newegg issued an RMA immediately.

Cons: booted up, inserted the win activation number on the bottom of the laptop, and it said your activation period has expired, this copy of windows is counterfeit. laptop looked like it had been cleaned with a scotchbrite pad, non-OEM charger was so hot after 30 minutes it burned my fingers when I picked it up. called Newegg, they shipped me an RMA.

Other Thoughts: I thought this would be an HP refurb but no, some private company probably buying off-lease laptops that have been abused for quite a while.
newegg said they would exchange for another one, we'll see how that one goes.

4 out of 5 eggsFalse Advertising

Pros: it works, comes with windows 7 pro, clean, well built, the usual excellent features of an HP 8510w, and all for under $200.00

Cons: advertised screen size is 1920 x 1200, I would have been happy with a 1920 x 1080 as listed on the internet reviews, but even after downloading all the video drivers and chipset drivers from HP, and having the computer identify the Nvidia Quadro FX on the driver info screen and the Nvidia control panel, the maximum resolution is 1280 x 800. Thus the advertised screen resolution is a lie and false advertisement. (perhaps the screen was one of the items refurbished and replaced with one of lower resolution, but the change in maximum resolution should have been advertised)

Other Thoughts: I have been a customer with newegg for many years and have meny HP laptops. I will be interested in seeing what they do to correct this serious advertisement mistake, first on neweggs part, who were most likely unaware, but more importantly, the refurbishers were aware and purposely mislead us all.
