5 out of 5 eggsGreat entry level laptop

Pros: It's pretty thin and light. Construction is pretty good. It used most of the latest tech in 2014 -- UEFI BIOS, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, a good Intel i3 CPU. The Intel HD 4400 graphics aren't adequate for the latest games, but more than adequate for non-gaming functions. RAM comes in the form on a single 4GB DIMM leaving one socket free.
Drives were easy to download from HP's website (Broadcom bluetooth and WLAN , Realtek LAN).

Cons: Keys have little travel - more annoying than a real con and something I'm sure I'll get used to. Screen is not HD, but is OK for entry level and colors & brightness are OK.

Other Thoughts: I paired this with an SSD and it flies. I immediately removed the HDD and replaced with the SSD from my old laptop (Win 7 Pro) and all I had to do was install the LAN, WLAN, Bluetooth, Card Reader, and Intel HD graphics/audio drivers - everything else is optional.
You can replace the optical drive with a HDD caddy so you have 2 hard drives!

5 out of 5 eggsOverall Nice Laptop

Pros: Overall build quality is good, I have seen better but not at this price. I like that its a 4th gen CPU, many companies are pushing the old stuff. The ram is expandable to 16GB, this is important. Beware of those cheap Asus / Toshiba / Acer laptops that are stuck at 4GB. This is real nasty. Also, many laptops have a built in battery, none removable. This unit has a removable battery. The battery will go bad one day and you will need to replace it.

Cons: The only con is the track pad that seems a bit spastic. Not the end of the world.

Other Thoughts: You can probably find laptops for 50-100 less but they will have the Pentium processor, non removable battery and non upgradable ram. The extra money for this one seems worth it.
