4 out of 5 eggsGood value for a small, basic laptop

Pros: This is a functional Windows 7 computer that can run MS Office and connect to the internet.
The battery lasts more than 4 hours if you're not doing anything too draining.
The trackpad and keyboard are fine and not too small for a 12".
The screen is fine -- I didn't see any dead pixels.
Generally a nice laptop. Was probably top of its class a few years ago when it was new.

Cons: The hinge has a little play in it so the screen can freely rock 5 degrees forward or backward from where you set it. It seems sturdy enough, though.
The computer runs a little slower than I would have expected given the specs, but certainly good enough for the price I paid.
I haven't gotten to Fn keys for screen brightness to work yet. The other hotkeys including volume do work. I haven't gotten the camera to work either, but I only tried for a few minutes.
There is a tiny amount of accumulated grit on the buttons above the trackpad. This is one of the only signs of physical wear or use.

Other Thoughts: I like my Chromebook more for things I do online (Netflix, email, reading) because it's slimmer and operates more smoothly. But this HP does what the Chromebook can't: MS Office suite and other non-cloud productivity software. It works just fine, and I would recommend it to anyone else who wanted to complement the deficiencies of an iPad, Chromebook, or other app-based device.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome laptop

Pros: price
performance*
durability

Cons: no usb 3.0 support
no back lid keyboard

Other Thoughts: Laptop isn't bad for the price that you pay but it needs to be "turbo charged" if your'e looking to do some basic productivity on it. I have a SSD + 8gb of ram on mines. Does a good job for surfing, document editing, email and stuff like that
