4 out of 5 eggsVery fast!

Pros: Very fast
1tb of storage
12gb of ram
1920 by 1080

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: windows 8 was a bit confusing at first but after getting use to it, window 8 had some perks that windows 7 didn't have. 17.3 inch is alot bigger than i expected as I am not very experienced in the notebook market. As said by other reviewers 17.3 inch is really big for a portable device. If you are looking for portability get a 13-15.6 inch. 15.6inch at most.

4 out of 5 eggsPower Machine

Pros: Blazing fast processor, a great improvement for a couple of my slower-moving programs. State of the art USB 3.0 ports make quick work of backups and similar. 1TB internal hard drive leaves plenty of room for growth.

Cons: The only con to me about this computer is the intense reflective glare from its monitor, which is present in almost every lighting situation. Fortunately it becomes less noticeable the more the screen is filled with windows of varied color and complexity.

Other Thoughts: No problems noticed so far from it being a refurbished unit.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst impressions

Pros: TouchScreen
1920x1080 screen
i7 4700MQ

Cons: SuperMulti DVD drive
HD4600 graphics
Slow 1TB Harddrive
12 GB Ram
Needed to purchase a drive caddy.
Refurbished blemishes and scratches on case, lid, top.
Also seems to have one dead pixel, my first ever.

Other Thoughts: Picked up a 240GB SSD for the boot/OS drive to improve the performance and remove the bottle neck. Purchased a second drive caddy just like with the previous HP.

You must swap out the primary drive for an SSD, to remedy the crippling of the performance of your laptop. The slow hard drives are the bottlenecks on the laptops these days.

I haven't run any tests or comparisons with my i7 2nd gen HP laptop this is replacing as the drive caddy hasn't arrived yet. I will then rebuild the windows 8.1 with the new drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal!

Pros: This laptop is SOLID. I'm pretty sure I could stand on it and it wouldn't break. It also doesn't seem to get warm at all, even when charging. I haven't tried playing any games on it yet so I don't know what it's like under load. The battery life is pretty great for what I would consider a desktop replacement laptop. Fully charged, it lasts about 6 hours (or at least that's what it reports, I haven't had a chance to test that yet either). The picture quality is great, and it actually doesn't come pre-loaded with too much bloatware. In fact, nerds rejoice, it comes with 7zip installed! Noteable uninstalls were Norton Antivirus and the games package.

I got the refurb version of this laptop (hopefully that's what this review goes under) and it is exactly like new. No scratches, no nothing, just perfect discount goods :)

Cons: The trackpad is a little hard to use sometimes. I've only had the thing a day, but it seems like sometimes it doesn't register my touch right away. And the left/right "buttons" (you just press the trackpad down, mac-style) need a LOT of pressure to actually click down. Then the multi-touch software uses the opposite gesture for scrolling than I expected, but this is probably configurable somewhere.

The keyboard seems a little strange at first, like the keys are too far apart or something, and it is a little annoying not having dedicated F-keys, but man the keyboard is SILENT.

This laptop is also very heavy. I don't think you'd be looking at it if you cared (it's a 17" whopper), but it's worth mentioning since the metal chassis DOES make it a bit weightier than I expected.

Other Thoughts: This laptop is HUGE. If you're going for portability, this is not the one for you.

I read somewhere that this has an extra drive bay and that was one of the reasons I bought it - I don't know if this is true yet, but if it is, you would be able to add an aftermarket SSD to the thing and still keep the 1TB HDD in it for storage.
