3 out of 5 eggsdisappointed

Pros: my husband has a Kindle I purchased this because I wanted something more. This is that a mini computer.

Cons: hard to touch on small area to log onto different places. also wanted to read on like a Kindle and this has the back light which you cannot read in the sun. Would not purchase again might as well buy a small laptop.

Other Thoughts: I passed the 30 day time when I used mine on a vacation otherwise I would have returned it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Windows Tablet

Pros: It is an excellent tablet. I'm a computer technician, and was so surprised with it when working on it that i had to get one. It is everything I've wanted from a tablet. It's compatible with all my windows programs. I use it for note taking, can use word to write up bills, and more. It is excellent to have at the house for leisure as well. I take it everywhere with me. Works well as a diagnostic PC. I can download drivers or tools on site with it. I use a microusb to usb adapter and a usb to ethernet dongle and can troubleshoot network issues. It also is the first PC I've enjoyed Windows 8 on.

Cons: Not as capable as a desktop or laptop, but is very fast for a tablet. You're not gonna be running photoshop on this thing.

2 out of 5 eggsbuggy device drivers for the ethernet/bluetooth

Pros: - low cost,
- good deal on the Microsoft office
- hardware is basic but ok

Cons: Note: I really liked this device, it was a good value for the office software, the device itself was well built and pretty well designed. It uses new hardware and then new hardware has really buggy device drivers. I found the updated device drivers introduced new problems. If you want to get one of these, go to the HP forums and query about the device and wireless/bluetooth problems.

more info:

-This device uses a Realtek chip for Bluetooth and wireless Ethernet (shared bandwidth) The drivers are really bad and prevent the device from working correctly. Other vendors that use this same chip are also having the same problems.

-You will have issues with power management and the Ethernet getting disabled when you use a Bluetooth headphone.

-You can listen to music that is on your device with a Bluetooth headset. Just do not expect to stream music/video from the internet to the device and back out to your Bluetooth device without problems.

example of the effect:
The Realtek chip provides both the Ethernet and Bluetooth support and they share bandwidth. Use of one cuts the other device's bandwidth significantly. For example, my ethernet maximum wireless bandwidth went from 20 Mbs to 5 Mbs when A bluetooth headset was used. That would be ok, but audio then came out of sync with movies it started out 1/2 second off but in 10 minutes the audio was 2 seconds out of sync with the video.

This cause me to update the drivers from the HP website. These new drivers are from Realtek and are meant to address customer complaints. Problem is they are much worse that the original default drivers provided for the device. They introduce new problems.

-The end result was I returned the device with in a week.

Other Thoughts: there are other problems but I just mentioned the one that caused me to return the product.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprised

Pros: I picked one of these up shortly after they were released. After reading the specs I wasn't expecting a powerhouse, but I was surprised by it's performance. It's able to do much more than a budget tablet should. It feels like it's running above it's class. You don't see too many tablets in this class that has 32gb of memory. It's only rated for an extra 32gb of microSD cards, but I was able to install a PNY 64gb class10 card without any trouble. Before this tablet I hated Widows 8, but on this tablet it feels like an OS should. The free one year Office 365 sub is a nice extra. The software alone is worth more than the selling price of this tablet. The battery will last for days if you do the right things (see the cons for more info.)

Cons: As happy as I have been with this tablet there are a few things I don't like. Only one GB of system memory is what is holding this tablet back. The next problem is the cameras. In this day, the 0.3 MP front and 2 MP rear cameras are a joke. The speaker is a little tinny, but how many budget tablets have a good speaker? The last is that if you don't fully shut down Windows, the battery will not stay charged over night. Even when it should be in power saving mode, it still keeps trying to keep all notifications up to date. Things like that can wait until it's turned back on.

Other Thoughts: The HP Stream 7 is a good budget tablet for people that don't need top of the line performance. Even with the cons, I would buy this again.

4 out of 5 eggsWindows 8 Tablets

Pros: Windows 8 tablets are great because you get the full experience of a desktop in a small package. And you can run all the same applications that your PC does like iTunes, Windows Media Player, Adobe Reader and Firefox. You get the real full desktop versions of this software and no need for apps. You can use the Windows store ones but what's better than running the full desktop applications? And the 7" size is perfect for using a Windows 8 tablet in one hand. For that reason it's better than some Windows 8 tablets that have the exact same resolution. Plus unlike some other Windows 8 tablets, this one has full Bluetooth which makes it easy to connect to external devices like mice, keyboards, and speakers.

Cons: There's some things that are just incredibly frustrating to do without the use of a mouse and keyboard (like heavy MS Excel for instance). In order to install a memory card you have to physically pry the back cover of the unit, and even then removing the card isn't easy. Only 32GB of micro SXHD can be stored on the device, which is kind of frustrating to work with if you have a large media collection.

Other Thoughts: Amazing how inexpensive tablets are getting. I miss Web OS.

4 out of 5 eggsSmall Tablet with full Windows 8 32 bit

Pros: 1280x800 screen resolution and 32gb of storage, better specs than the Toshiba Excite for about the same price. Full Windows 8.1 with Bing and Office 365 1 year free. Windows 8.1's "Modern UI" works better on a tablet than a desktop PC. Capable of running 'normal' 32 bit Windows programs. This tablet is built more solid than cheaper Nextbook or eMatic tablets.

Cons: The 7 inch screen is barely big enough. The text on the screen is small. Modern UI tile apps work ok, but not as many free apps as Android. Desktop Mode is not as easy to use without a keyboard and mouse.

Other Thoughts: Not many protective cases available.
