There are far better alternatives...
- Pros: Very small, quite inexpensive, 30gb hd is larger than competition, easier to install operating systems and programs on than competition (in some cases the hard drive as apposed to the flash memory of Asus' EEE PC is less problematic for a few different programs).
- Cons: Unit becomes very hot very quickly. Small and portable meets burning hot within a short amount of time. EXTREMELY SLOW (and worse when it heats up, which won't take it long). CPU clocks at 1.2 if I'm not mistaken, but compared to an intel, this thing is far slower. Hard drive is NOT 4200 RPMs like the box says, it is 3600 RPMs. This might not sound like a huge issue. It is. I've never seen Windows XP stutter so bad, all because of that weak hard drive. Upgrading pretty much anything voids the warranty (and I had to upgrade ram for my work). The operating system that comes with the device is embarrassing, and Everex doesn't even include drivers for the graphics card on gOS (nor are there any) so effects and features of the operating system are either disabled or have horribly, glitchy results. I bet you'd figure the wireless would have to be decent for all of its short comings. The wireless is so pathetic I couldn't stand across the room with the router and get internet.
- Other Thoughts: Unit will no longer power on and since I've upgraded the RAM and voided the warranty, Everex wants to charge me. "Send it in and we'll tell you how much its going to cost, if you change your mind you have to pay us $40 to send it back."
Worst laptop experience EVER.
Great for the price
- Pros: Small, decent battery life for its size, 30GB hard drive, 1.2GHz processor (almost faster than my desktop). Solid construction that has endured numerous bumps and scrapes.
- Cons: The processor, although 1.2GHz, is slow. Hard drive? Slow. gOS? It sucks. Want to ad a gig of memory? WARRANTY VOIDED! Want to put XP on it? WARRANTY VOIDED (even though they provide the drivers for you on their site).
- Other Thoughts: For the price, I bought this instead of an EEE. I don't regret it, as putting XP on it was much easier, but now I have no warranty, and I had to disassemble the entire bottom of the unit to ad a gig of ram.
Everex needs to stop voiding warranties for things that owners are doing to IMPROVE the products. Asus was quick to realize this.
Perfect little unit
- Pros: works perfectly with windows XP. Best portsable device I have ever owned. Wireless range is perfect. Unit runs cool. All good when using XP
Since everything is VIA and designed to work together this unit runs very well. I can watch high quality video, listen to music, make docs and run google earth . To load XP just get a IDE to USB adaptor for a cdrom 5.25 drive. Plug in and reboot. The USB port is automatically detected as a boot drive.
- Cons: The Gos operating system uses too many resources and the wireless stinks in Gos. Dump GoS and you are good to go
- Other Thoughts: Everex could have been real succesfull with this if it used a better linux distro
