1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the hype

Pros: It's fast when it wants to be. cool backlight functions, reboots fast

Cons: constant wifi disconnects, computer is slow after about 20 minutes of just being on and has to be constantly restarted. fan constantly on full power even when lid closed and sitting idle, "shutdown" works 50% of the time and will reboot computer instead of actually turning off. oh and the speakers are almost inaudible when on max

Other Thoughts: I had high hopes with this "gaming" laptop from the reviews i got from friends who had also purchased one but i must have gotten one of the bad ones. I am on the go alot so i wanted a laptop to keep up with my gaming addictions while on the road, but this is definitely not the one. after constant wifi disconnects, and unable to handle any of the games i play(rust, arma3, ark), i would steer clear from this computer. every game i try and play even on the most minimum settings still have huge latency when the drivers don't crash. when it does work, wifi disconnects when it gets "too much." also when downloading files, the wifi again disconnects and i have to restart to get it to work again. when i'm just using it for web browsing, sitting on a table the fan never stops humming from high. after all this, when i'm in a hurry and go to shut down the computer, half the time instead of actually shutting off, it reboots instead(yes i click shutdown and not restart, i have tested it several times) and sometimes i don't have time to check when loading it into my backpack so the computer is sitting on in the case until i go to pull it out. also the speakers are useless and even on max in a quiet room, if you're not 2 feet from it you cant hear anything coming from them.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA after 45 days

Pros: Fast. Beautiful screen. Good form factor and not as heavy as the old MX17.

Cons: Dead after 45 days. Won't charge. Have to send back to Alienware (Dell).

Other Thoughts: Wish I had bought almost anything else. A poor experience for a $1800+ laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat built, comes with great weight.

Pros: 1. Pretty good capable notebook can handle your work and gaming entertainment.
2. Fast notebook with discrete graphics.
3. Can replace your desktop performance, blessed with portability.
4. Great customization with Alien Fx, Also great upgrade-ability compare to other notebooks in the market.
5. Graphics Amplifier is a Plus.

Cons: 1. Heavy & hefty compare to these days notebook (consider as build quality).
2. Track pad with double finger scrolling.
3. Blu-ray disabled .
4. Heat looks annoyingly high while gaming but temp looks OK. (consider as a gaming notebook has same heat issues, compared to silent cooling is a plus.)

Other Thoughts: Overall Great notebook with portability and upgrade-ability with great features.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop

Pros: The 1080p display is nothing short of spectacular, the laptop remain cool thanks to the massive intake on the bottom and gaming performance is impressive thanks to the 970m. Build quality is also great as well as a relatively quiet keyboard which is great for taking notes in class.

Cons: This bad boy is on the heavy side a 7 pounds without the power supply, the speakers could be better but they are not bad.

Other Thoughts: This is an overall great machine, epically if you can get it for the sale price of $1,600 bucks. The ability to add the graphics amplifier will add even greater performance. Coming from a Gigabyte P34v3 and Razer Blade 14 (2014) it is much heavier. However both of them died as thing and light gaming laptops aren't ready for prime time. You caint go wrong with this laptop as it has plenty of expansion options. It has 2 M.2 data slots plus a standard 2 in halfhalf inch slot for an HDD or SSD.

2 out of 5 eggsVery nice Laptop

Pros: Its a beast. Good cooling the 970m is a monster for mobile graphics. The screen is fantastic. Speakers are great. The SSD is decent and comes with 16 GB of ram. Very sturdy laptop.

Cons: Unfortunately I was having an issue with my wireless. I would get terrible lag if I was more than 5-10 feet away from my wireless router. Even with full signal and 20mb download speeds all my blizzard games lagged. I especially got it for Heroes of the storm and d3 both where unplayable unless hooked directly to the ethernet port or would just spike with lag all the time. When connected directly I never had a problem. Also when I would go to a new place to connect to a new network it would not show any networks available. I just returned it for a refund and got an asus g751 and dont have these issues with my new machine. I even get faster download speeds with my asus. My only conclusion is my wireless Ethernet was defective. This was the only issue and would have kept it minus the wifi. Other than that this laptop is a 5/5 machine.

Other Thoughts: Again just want other customers to know the laptop for what you get and the price and build quality is worth it. Mine just didnt hack it

5 out of 5 eggsHigh Build Quality, Good Cooling

Pros: - Solid Feel
- Speakers produce good sound outside of front vents
- Cooling on the laptop is excellent, heat vents out of the rear from two fans on both sides of the rear panel. Back middle of the underside gets the hottest with extended use.
- 970m and the i7 get the job done on max setting on everything I've thrown at it using the 1080p screen.
-1080p IPS screen is perfect resolution for this graphics card, screen has no dead pixels.
- Keyboard is solid, alienware back lighting is neat.
- Battery life just web browsing has been solid, around 5 hours depending on screen brightness used.
- Did not buy the Graphic Amplifier yet, but will be excited to in the future with my 1440p Monitor. Plan to use the Amplifier as a dock, and with this processor dominating the U variant in the Alienware 13, thought this laptop would be better with the Amplifier long term.

Cons: - Don't really see a need for the macro keys on the left of the keyboard. Would have preferred a numpad if there was enough real estate, but that is questionable.
- Although the internals remain cool, I can only make it about 1.5 hours on my lap before my legs get sweaty.
- Battery Life while gaming is about 1.5-2 hours. I guess this is typical for a gaming laptop, but with the huge Battery, was hoping for more.
- It's heavy compared to options from Sager, but that probably contributes to the solid feel of the chassis as well, so this isn't a total negative. I was concerned that the weight would make it problematic to carry with my work laptop, both chargers, my coffee mug, and my timbuk2 messenger bag, but it hasn't been bad. Similar to a light laptop and my textbooks I carried around in College. I'm glad I sacrificed weight for build quality and cooling compared to other options, but YMMV.
-Was concerned about the 5400 HDD, but so far, using the drive for Bioshock Infinite and StarCraft, I haven't noticed any comprises. Would have preferred this drive be 7200, but at least the SSD is there for the OS.

Other Thoughts: Very Satisfied so far with this purchase. This is my first gaming laptop in a few years, and deciding where in the spectrum I wanted for weight/heat/screen size was the hardest decision. Almost pulled the trigger on the Razer Blade instead, as price wasn't a concern, and the Razer had the better processor, but this offered greater space with the 1080p screen, and I was more sure this would last without frying the internals. The Graphics Amplifier port was also attractive. The Sager 8651 is also a model I considered.
