5 out of 5 eggsAlienware 14

Pros: i7 quad-core
Stunning IPS Screen
Ability to Color Calibrate screen for accurate colors

Cons: Thicker than most
3hr Battery life

Other Thoughts: For me, .Win8 interface is hard to use on a non touchscreen
so I use Start 8 for $4.99 to get a more usable interface.
Added a Crucial Msata drive for OS and Programs and use the 750 gig for Data.
Changed the ram to 16gig from Crucial.
Now it boots in 12 seconds and starts Photoshop in 3 seconds

2 out of 5 eggsDefective Alienware 14 Laptops

Pros: Good specs on paper.
Good screen.

Cons: Expensive
Poor Support
Questionable build quality

Other Thoughts: I purchased an Alienware 14 laptop directly from Dell in January of 2014. The system arrived and I noticed that the network port was bent inward and not flush with the chasis. Having spent $2000+ on the laptop I requested a replacement. The replacement took 30 days to get to me.

I open the brand new replacement laptop and I notice that the keyboard has what looks like grease smears on it and the "[" key is bent to the right and not flush with the other keys. Additionally, the power LED is broken and will not light up at all. Tech support was unable to get the light to work via remote access.

Tech support proposed sending a technician out to fix my defective brand new laptop (which requires complete disassemble/reassembly). I decline as this is a NEW $2000+ system and shouldn't need repairs right out of the box. I am told it will take another 30 days to get me another system. If you have ANY work to do you will need to find a temp computer while Alienware goes through a lengthy process of exchange.

Alienware systems look great on paper, but they may have some build or quality control issues. If you do get a defective system be ready to be treated like it is YOUR fault and wait 30 days or more to get a replacement.
