5 out of 5 eggsSolid Choice for Normal Tasks

Pros: The case looked close to new and was very clean for being a refurbished unit. Easy to setup except it required 139 Windows updates. Performance seems good.

Cons: Windows updates took a while to download and install and required retries after some failed. Touchpad is very sensitive and often the cursor will fly around when unintended.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this laptop for my 90 year old mother. She had been using an XP slimline desktop which had become excruciatingly slow. She mainly uses it for email and very limited internet browsing. I wanted a Windows7 machine with reasonable performance so that it will last for several years. I had used this particular model for my work until about a year ago and had liked it.
I was impressed with the condition of this refurbished unit. It was clean and without scratches. It seemed to have snappy performance when I was setting it up. The only unexpected and time consuming issue I had was the huge amount of Windows updates that were required to be downloaded and installed. Several retries were required to get them all successfully installed.
I was able to setup Win7 so that it was very simple for her and very similar to the XP machine she was used to. I did not want her to have to deal with Win8. Overall I am very pleased with this laptop.
One issue that we both had with this laptop as well as the one I used for work was the very sensitive touch pad which often causes unintentional actions. All of sudden you are typing in a totally different area or overwriting previously entered typing. Purchase of a standard keyboard and mouse fixes that. My mother is now also happy with her new computer.

4 out of 5 eggsNeeded BIOS Update

Pros: -Great Value!
-Refurbished with no scratches or dents
-Works as expected, and somewhat better

Cons: -DIMM slot wasn't recognizing extra 2 GB memory I installed
-BIOS wasn't up-to-date

Other Thoughts: This computer was such a great value when I purcashed it at $169. I happened to have an extra 2 GB of laptop RAM laying around, and when I tried installing it, the system wouldn't recognize it. Bootup showed the BIOS was still on the original BIOS v. A14, so I went to DELL.com/support and downloaded the latest A34 BIOS version. Upon bootup, the system was able to recognize the 2nd stick thankfully. Overall, an eggcellent purchase!

3 out of 5 eggsWhat? No wi-fi! disapointed

Pros: Good computer looks great and had no problems using lan line for internet!

Cons: Their is a button and switch for the Wi-Fi but no lights. When I hit the switch it makes a beep sound but still no light. I can put a Wi-Fi card in it but in the description it said Wi-Fi ready and that is why I bought it. Is there a trick to it or what I would like some help on this. other than that a great computer for now.
