5 out of 5 eggsUEFI BIOS + SECURE BOOT

Pros: everything

Cons: touchpad

Other Thoughts: all you complaining about inability to "UNLOCK BIOS"
no such thing !!!!!

disable secure boot and the notebook will start anything

all computers with windows 8 (not just Lenovo) have this feature!!! because windows 7 and previous OS did NOT utilize SECURE BOOT but windows 8 does only 8 recovery media or start-up disc's run in SECURE BOOT MODE

Disable it in BIOS and voila!!!!

i did and 7 / Ubuntu went on like a charm !!!!

if you have no idea about this technology you should not attempt to do this to begin with!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsDon't rate equipment badly because of your ignorance

Pros: what is not to like it does what its supposed to at some of the lowest price bracket out there

I like it and so did the customer

Cons: track pad sensitivity

Other Thoughts: to all of you complaining about no recovery media !!!!!@#$@#$#

get your notebook the way you like (remove the bloatware) and image the HDD using WINDOWS imaging utility it works and its FREE!

And don't take it out on poor man Lenovo (it's really not that bad) notebook just because you dislike Windows 8

Those of you complaining about speed use the money you saved to buy Samsung 840 (or any other decent SSD) and be ready to drop your Jaws to the floor!!!

(again make sure you image the installation and make yourself a start-up Disk)

1 out of 5 eggsVery disappointed in Lenovo

Pros: Keyboard, battery life

Cons: No recovery CD/DVD. Unable to boot to DVD (disabled UEFI and secureboot). I'm still trying to find a way to get Clonezilla to work so I can duplicate the HDD.

Other Thoughts: Part of the problems are probably attibutable to Win8, but Lenovo has done nothing to help the situation. Search the Lenovo forums for things like BIOS, boot DVD, etc at before thinking about buying this or other Lenovo computers. I had several other Lenovo computers before, but this is changing my mind on the type of company they are.

1 out of 5 eggsNot as advertised, poorly built

Pros: cheap

Cons: touchpad is unusable
does not have Intel HD4000 as advertised
poorly put together
difficult to open optical drive

Other Thoughts: As others have stated the touch pad is unusable. It has a bad feel, is very jerky, and selects any item under the pointer. Case feels cheap and poorly put together with gaps in several seams. Description indicates it has an Intel HD4000 but really has a 2000. Huge difference between those two. (4000 not even available with this processor). Optical drive push button is awkwardly located and hard to reach without lifting up the laptop. Overall poorly designed, badly made, and misrepresented. As always Newegg stepped up with an easy return and refund. Upgraded to an on-sale and am much happier.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware

Pros: Cheap!

Cons: I experienced both a jerky touchpad and a wireless network device that could NEVER connect. It is obvious that the driver is bad and there is no relief from Lenovo.

4 out of 5 eggsReplacement has been fine

Pros: Value for the money.

Cons: First one did not work. Newegg issued a prepaid RGA and replaced the defective one with the same model. The replacement was fine.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Touchpad

Pros: Cheap

Cons: The touchpad was almost unusable out of the box. The "tap to click" feature would randomly select things. After I disabled that feature, the tracking on the touchpad was still pretty bad, but it was usable.

Other Thoughts: This laptop was purchased by a family member and I was helping to set it up. I'm going to recommend a return.

2 out of 5 eggsOK

Pros: Nice screen, quiet, inexpensive

Cons: Touchpad has a 'yucky' feel that is unpleasant to use.
Also not rugged, plastic seems poorly fit together, poor quality control.

Other Thoughts: This is a follow-up review. Received a laptop with a defective touchpad (very jerky motion and falsely clicks all over the place). Newegg replaced very quickly, though I had to get RMA over the phone since automatic RMA is not available for this item. Replacement otherwise works well, but I still dislike even the working touchpad. Even with the 'tapping' feature disabled, It still accidentally clicks on stuff (though much less common than the defective touchpad) that was not intended any you must wait for the operation...very annoying. The poor touchpad performance makes Windows 8 (because of how it is designed) quite a bit more annoying than it needs to be.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad, But May Need Some TLC From Techie

Pros: Nice screen. Keyboard keys separated and easy to type on. Full number pad. Option to turn off mouse pad to avoid tapping while typing. Price was right. Delivery was fine. Computer is actually working just fine. Using it as a machine for web access and documentation. No other hardware issues so far. Shiny. Power cord seems long enough. Battery lasts for quite a while. Can get to old style Win 7 desktop and work there. Plenty of space, memory, and speed. I have 20 tabs open in my browser right now with no problems. So far, so good. I'm keeping and using it for work. Purchased Office (comes pre-loaded install just have to buy and activate). Active Lenovo Forums where you can find additional support.

Cons: Speakers practically under the computer. Tough to find the button to open CD drive - its sort of under the drawer. USB ports angled a bit so insertion of devices is not straight in. Windows 8. So far I'd rather have Windows 7. 8 was too much extra "stuff" for me. Who needs all those App accounts. Sheesh. Maybe you do. No recovery CD's provided. No Windows 8 key provided. Supposedly it's tied to the BIOS now. Took 4 hours of research to find out how to create a backup drive on a USB 3.0 16GB drive. Hope I never have to use it. Comes pre-installed with a LOT of extra software that I won't use. Maybe you will.

Other Thoughts: Hope this helps others. I recommend the following:

Create System Repair Disk
Create Recovery Drive
- since you do not get any disks or keys. A backup image exists on the HDD but should it fail then what? You'll need a 16 GB USB drive to create the recovery drive. Again solution found on the web after 4 hours of research.

Either keep and pay for installed security or find alternative protection. I chose to uninstall pre-loaded software and am still trying to get rid of those services that are still running.

Windows 8 Updates Issues - Grrr! This was frustrating!
- found after some time that Windows 8 Updates would attempt to update, stall at 15% setup and then revert back to it’s original settings
- there is a solution you can find on the web

URL Shortcuts on the desktop just bug me. Take them or leave them.

2 out of 5 eggsUghh

Pros: - nice looking?
- cheap

Cons: - the touchpad is the worst I've used or owned.
- need to uninstall sound drivers to install windows updates...
- out of the box, the computer freezes very often...
- sound is terrible

Other Thoughts: bought this to replace my broken toshiba laptop that I accidently smashed and broke... spend a little more and get a toshiba laptop!!! The quality is quite noticible
