1 out of 5 eggsI Give Up

Pros: This laptop was extremely affordable and I purchased it as a gift for my mother for Christmas. She didn't need much in the way of specs. Simple was better for her. The case itself was solid and did not appear to have any scratches or dents... Either of the cases. Which brings me to...

Cons: The first laptop that was sent to me was DOA. Whenever I tried to boot up the OS, all it would give me was a flickering blue screen declaring faulty hardware. I sent that one back. Eventually I received the replacement, which was upgrade to Windows 7. I was grateful... Until I discovered the DC jack was loose. The connection is spotty and if the charger cord is held at the right angle, it will get juice. Otherwise, the battery just dies.

Other Thoughts: I give up. I'm not paying to ship this thing back again. Aforementioned gift recipient will not wait another 2 weeks to receive a replacement. I'll just have to hit up Best Buy tomorrow.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the money

Pros: As advertised. Clean, no damage. Pretty good buy for a refurbished unit

Cons: Window XP is 32 bit. Does not exploit the CPU. Runs 64 bit Kubuntu without a hitch.

Other Thoughts: I also bought a hard drive caddy. I now run windows XP off the installed hard drive and kubuntu off a hard drive in the DVD/CD slot.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Let's see
Spill proof keyboard
NVS 140 instead of IGP
1440x900 resolution
battery life is about 2.5 hours, not bad has some wear but this is a refurb.
60Gb HDD is 7.2k, 2 ram slots DDR2 FYI
Plays TF2 and CS which me and my girl play
Works great for basic college/small business loads
Win 7 installed flawless

Cons: Please don't rate yourself 'high tech knowledge' if you don't realize a vista key can activate XP. Downgrade right I believe are with this laptop.
I installed 7 because for 129 you can get 3 licenses.
Protip: It doesn't come with office and no where does it say it does.
bit old but sill a champ

Other Thoughts: Great for small business use and college, keep in mind this is refub and my have some wear both on the laptop and battery.

1 out of 5 eggsNot as expected

Pros: None...Computer could work as a doorstop.

I used the same computer while working at a top firm doing IT Security consulting a couple years back. The computer if sold with properly licensed and acquired software, should work very well. However, that's not the case here.

Cons: Vendor who sold the refurbished computer sold the computer using black market software where Microsoft will not activate the computer. This essentially makes the computer a worthless brick, requiring another $150 to upgrade to Windows 7. Had I known this would happen I wouldnt waste the time as this was to be a Christmas gift for my son who wants to learn to program and create programs. Cant make up for the time wasted dealing with this system.

Other Thoughts: I would never purchase from this vendor, ever again!

3 out of 5 eggsGood deal for what I needed

Pros: Solidly constructed, good performer. I like XP Pro for the application I am using this laptop for. Well engineered for upgrading. Took about five minutes to swap HD to a larger one. Also mine came with an 80gb WD HD instead of the 60 as advertised. I like the keyboard also. Display is good.

Cons: Defintely has seen some use, missing a rubber pad on bottom of case for example. Refurbisher left out the power cord that attaches from the Wall socket to the power supply. Newegg Customer support really blew it on assisting me. Told me it would be three to five days for just a response. I emailed the refurbisher and she was good. Sent out the missing cord with an additional power supply for my troubles. That's the way it should be done Newegg. Not the way your rep handled it.

1 out of 5 eggsProbably would have been good...

Pros: Newegg, price, specs, XP(sorta) see below

Cons: Was shipped with XP but when I booted it up I had to enter the product key, which I found kind of odd. After checking it out, I had realized that it was a Vista PK and the computer had been downgraded and the computer is pretty much useless without a clean copy of Windows for another 100 bucks.

Other Thoughts: Newegg was very helpful with fixing the issue and going above and beyond as usual.

4 out of 5 eggsBuilt like a Tank.

Pros: Solid construction all around.

The keyboard has a nice solid feel to it. Typing is great; the keys do not feel like they are plastic trash like most laptops now days.

Touchpad is smooth and easy to use.

Fingerprint reader works great.

Specifications were wrong. I ordered the T61 and actually got a little better than I expected. My hard drive is an 80 GB 5400rpm Western Digital not a 60 GB as advertised. The processor is clocked at 2.0GHz and not 1.8GHz.

Cons: I took an egg off because it looks like my LCD screen has a very small area of dead pixels towards the bottom. It's near the bottom left of the LCD panel (a little bit below the start menu on XP) and I can barely see it. It is too small to notice, but if you actually look for dead pixels you could see it. I was worried it was a cracked lcd, but it doesn't look like it is spreading. I don't care enough to ship it back. If it breaks later down the road, I'll replace it.

Other than that, I have had no issues at all.

Other Thoughts: I own another laptop that cost $600+ for light gaming. On an operational standpoint, the Lenovo T61 blows it out of the water. The construction of the T61 is better than most of the laptops I have seen in local stores. I have always admired Lenovo's laptops, but this is my first one. I bought this for work and school, and it works perfect for just that.

If you want bells and whistles... you don't want this.
If you are looking for something for paying bills, e-mail, word processing, school, etc. This is a good deal. Core2duo, XP, 2 GB memory, 80 GB hard drive is all you need. I have not had any issues so far, and for the price, I don't really mind if I do.

4 out of 5 eggsIBM T61

Pros: Better Resolution than expected 1400
Core 2 Duo
decent GPU and RAM
Western Digital Black HD
Don't know if you will get the same but this is a great deal if you do... can't go wrong with older IBM/Lenovo

Cons: A little heavy and battery sticks out the back

Other Thoughts: Couldn't ask much more computer for the $$$
I paid $350 for my last refurb T60 so happy with this
