4 out of 5 eggsThinkpad R400

Pros: Rugged, very stable, modularized (so it can be repaired or upgraded) and it's a Lenovo

Cons: Arrived without power supply (and nearly dead battery) and no installation disks. Contacted supplier (not Newegg) and got the missing parts overnighted to me. Kudos to Son Tran at usmicrocorp.

Other Thoughts: Would you believe it has a MODEM? A modem! Yes, it's not the flashy super zingo computer meant to dazzle your freinds (and make them jealous they don't have one), but after upgrading to WIN 7 64 bit Professional and installing SUSE 12.3 as a dual boot system, getting a new battery and 2 gig of additional memory, this little puppy shines. And the combined price of the 'puter, battery and memory, it's a real bargain.

2 out of 5 eggsNot as specified

Pros: New egg service has been very fast as usual.
Laptop runs fine. Battery is very good.

Cons: Packaging was scary but apears to have been adequate.

Unit was advertised with 2 Gig ram. I have received unit with only one Gig. Which measns it CANNOT function for the desired software.

Other Thoughts: Plaese note my issue is not wth Newegg but the refurbisher.

5 out of 5 eggsas advertised

Pros: Just as advertised, works just fine.

Cons: Only thing, which was also in the other positive review, is the coating of Armor-all, or some other shiny spray. Easy to wipe off though, so no worries.

Other Thoughts: Refurbished products can never be judged perfectly through text.

I would've preferred the 64 bit version of the operating system (32 bit was installed when I booted it up), but it came with install discs for both 32 and 64 bit versions, so that's not an issue for someone who knows what they are doing.

5 out of 5 eggsLenovo R400 Thinkpad, Refurbished

Pros: I was hesitant at first to order after reading the one comment prior to mine. Where the guy said it was a smeller computer. So I consulted some friends who are long time customers of Newegg and they assured me that they all have always had good experiences. I have not done business with Newegg since 1996 in San Diego at an actual Newegg Store.

The shipping to Hawaii was a tad more than I wanted to pay at first with my order having 3 (Three) Items and each one was like $24.95 coming to like $75 for shipping for a camera, RAM, and the R400. So I just got the computer. I am sure if I would have contacted Newegg they would have worked it out, but it was late at night when I ordered.

The box came in 3 days. Pretty large box, well protected. Inside the giant Newegg box was another large box with official looking "Microsoft Certified Refurbished" and inside sits a shiny new looking R400, 2 Install DVD of Windows 7 Pro with the serial numbers and stuff, and a new looking Power cord/adapter. The machine looks like it is new plus maybe a week old. Very minor clues of previous ownership. The machine has what looks like some Armor-all on it which I wish they had left that off. But it all wipes clean real easy.

I booted her up and everything went great and started loading an already fresh install of Windows 7 Pro. I halted the system before regitering because I have no intention of leaving Microsoft Windows on this wonderful machine.

Linux, FreeBSD, and Plan9 are all I allow on my Thinkpads.

I think the guy who gave the bad report card either was a fluke, or a shill trying to get people to buy from elsewhere or something? I could not be happier with my purchase.

I will add that as soon as I bought the R400 Google notified me that Newegg is a trusted partner of some kind and gave me an automatic $1,000 Insurance on the purchase, saying Google backs up my satisfaction.

I will give this a 10 out of 10. Mind you, it is a used machine. I am not saying it is in new condition. Its used and was very well pampered. I have no issue with this. I use the hell out of my machines and few other than Lenovo can survive what I do to machines.

I will buy all my used Thinkpads from Newegg from here on out.

Cons: My only gripe if any was the flat rate $24.95 shipping cost per item ordered to be shipped to Big Island Hawaii 96720.

Initially I ordered 8GB RAM, a camera, and the Thinkpad. The shipping came to about $75.00. I could not afford that. So I just got the Thinkpad.

I wish I could have got all the items for the $24.95 it cost to ship to Hawaii.

I do not like the Armor-all spray they squirted on it to make it look detailed like a car. This model Thinkpad looks fine in the dull grey. Had to wipe the stuff off.

Other Thoughts: Unless the other guys bad comment report was a fluke, I think Newegg should find a way to delete that bad comment. My Refurbished Lenovo R400 Thinkpad is in excellent refurbished condition. Not like brand new. But like one that has been pampered and barely used.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Fefurbished R400 Notebook

Pros: It did boot up.

Cons: 1. Old
2. Heavily used and warn out
3. No work has been done on these to "Refurbish them"

Other Thoughts: I have purchased other refurbished equipment from Newegg in the past and have been pleased. This notebook is not refurbished. This is just and old used computer that someone is trying to sell. The one I got the keyboard was so used not all the keys worked all the time. Avoid this computer and keep shopping.

I will not purchase any more "Refurbished" equipment from Newegg.
