Rating: 4/5Not quite to the standard I was expecting, but still good
This review is from: ThinkPad T Series T430 Notebook Intel Core i5 3320M (2.60GHz) 4GB Memory 500GB HDD NVIDIA NVS 5400M 14.0" Windows 7 Professional-64-bit
Pros: -Trackpoint, precise touchpad, best mousing you can get without an actual mouse -Looks sexy -Perfect size/weight -Good battery life(~6h on lowest brightness performing normal computing tasks like web browsing and running office) -Quality webcam, with a light that tells you when it's on -Plenty fast for my desktop apps(MATLAB is a little sluggish but I was not really expecting better) -Sturdy hinges -Nutty wireless range, I can use the wi-fi from the bar across the street from my work in a pinch, with two bars -Headphones have their own volume/mute! So you can mute the speakers and when you plug in headphones the output will come back on, and vice versa. -Wi-fi switch is nice and far from anywhere I will bump it, and takes a fair amount of force to switch -It's a Thinkpad, and touching it makes me feel randy
Cons: Minor issues, most of them with workarounds, but still that's time spent messing around with setting up the computer that I don't want to spend: -Wireless is buggy, it might just not play nice with my router at home though, as it seems to work well enough at work and school -Color balance is off(too blue) -Webcam auto white balance doesn't work(too blue, which makes you look bad/ill) -Button for DVD eject is exactly where I hold the laptop when I grab it by the base, so it pops out any time I move the computer -Fan is too loud at normal operating temp(45-50C). I was able to fix this myself through software however. It also doesn't run fast enough when the computer gets hot, so if it gets over 60(which it will at full load) it doesn't cool itself enough. Also anything above the lowest level(2600rpm) on the fan sounds like a jet. -Trackpoint goes out of calibration periodically -Center scroll button stops working randomly -Only comes with windows 8 DVD -Lenovo junk software -Installing Windows 8.1 takes an entire day with the lenovo scripts taking about half the time -Weird texturing on touchpad that makes it kinda hard to use -Speakers take up a ton of space on the front but don't sound good -Fn is where I expect Ctrl to be, so I am constantly hitting Fn-C instead of Ctrl-C. You can flip them in the keyboard options, but Ctrl is a much bigger button, so you still end up hitting Fn(now mapped to the larger Ctrl button) on accident. -Sleep and wi-fi turn off on the F keys, so you have to be careful trying to adjust the brightness in the dark -Finish collects grease like crazy and seems impossible to clean, so the lid always looks messy
Overall it feels a little cheap or rough around the edges compared to older models of thinkpads
Other Thoughts: I'm picky, but overall I'm pleased after tweaking with it.
